Five Actors We'd Cast In 'The Crow' Remake

The Crow
By Jenni Miller
The remake/reboot/rejiggering of "The Crow" is flapping its way to fruition. However, the latest rumor that "The Hangover, Part II" star Bradley Cooper is in talks to star as Eric Draven has met with some skepticism.
Can the wholesome-looking star don Draven's eyeliner and satisfy fans of the Alex Proyas original? Can he lose the trademark smirk long enough to win over those of us who had the posters and the comics and the soundtrack and perhaps even the t-shirt? (I mean, I'm just saying, some people keep stuff like that around.)
Just in case Cooper decides to fly elsewhere, here are five suggestions for actors we'd like to see take his place.
1. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
This incredibly versatile actor has the chops to pull off a character so full of righteous anger that he returns from the dead to kick butt. Plus, he's definitely going to be in comic book mode by the time he's done with "The Dark Knight Rises," right?
Whether he's setting things on fire in "Hesher," traveling through dream worlds in "Inception," singing his little heart out in "(500) Days of Summer," or investigating the death of his ex in the high-school set noir "Brick," Gordon-Levitt always has my full attention.
2. Christian Bale
Speaking of all things Dark and Knight-like, Bale looks mighty fine in that Batman suit and has the whole tormented soul thing down pat. He's a natural chameleon, although I'd discourage him from going on one of his crazy diets again to get the fashionably gaunt look of James O'Barr's gothy creation.
I can hear him now growling, "Mother is the name for God on the lips and hearts of all children" now!
3. Michael Fassbender
You saw "Jane Eyre," yes? And "Hunger?" And "Inglourious Basterds?" Fassbender is hot on Bale's heels when it comes to razor-sharp acting talent and broodiness. And he makes ladies' palms sweat, dude.
Although "Jonah Hex" didn't go over so well with the comic book crowd (or… anyone, really), Fassbender's definitely showing he can easily jump from arthouse flicks to comic book blockbusters with upcoming projects like "X-Men: First Class" and "Prometheus."
4. Tom Hardy
Tom Hardy was delightfully batty and terrifying in "Bronson," and he got mainstream attention with "Inception." With a role in "The Dark Knight Rises," he's definitely earning our fanboy and fangirl respect. (I guess there's a theme here -- "The Dark Knight Rises" in our hearts!) Also, um, he's super hot. So there's that.
If there's action, he can do it. If there's drama, he can rock it. If he has to scare, well, anyone, he can dig into that well of "Bronson" nuttiness and get down to business.
5. Robert Pattinson
You knew this was coming, right? You hate this, right? Well, tough noogies. I stand firm in my backing of Rpattz as a possible Eric Draven, if only because he's all broody and has amazing cheekbones. Whether or not he can actually carry a movie is up in the air, but "The Crow" isn't some sort of Oscar bait. It's a comic book movie.
Pattinson needs to spread his wings, so to speak, so hand the kid some weapons, slap some makeup on him, and let him give it a go.
Who would you like to see as the star of the "The Crow" remake? Let us know what you think in the comment section or on Twitter!
