First Trailer for Soderbergh’s Haywire Hits
July 22, 2011 By Jon Lyus

Getting the inevitable ‘Bourne Meets Dragon Tattoo’ poster quote out of the way this is a great first look for Steven Soderbergh’s revenge thriller Haywire.

Yesterday we saw the first poster for the film spotted at Comic-Con but this trailer is what will get you excited for the film.

Fancy a synopsis before the head-kicking-in? Why not.

Mallory Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world. After successfully freeing a Chinese journalist held hostage, she is double crossed and left for dead by someone close to her in her own agency. Suddenly the target of skilled assassins who know her every move, Mallory must find the truth in order to stay alive.

Using her black-ops military training, she devises an ingenious—and dangerous—trap. But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she’ll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.

MMA star Gina Carano takes the lead here and looks to have genuine screen presence as well as a fierce physicality that Soderbergh has done well to capture in the shots on offer here. Michael Fassbender looks suave, Ewan McGregor looks pensive and suspicious while Michael Douglas wears a suit and looks powerful.

Who cares how it all fits together, if Len Dobbs has managed to craft a decent story around the bombastic kicking on show here then we’re on to a winner.

Haywire Trailer

They left her with no choice. After kicking the ass of Comic-Con's Hall H, Relativity has released the first official trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, his action movie starring MMA fighter Gina Carano. The cast in this is incredible: Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano and Bill Paxton. The action in this was designed to be realistic, as if these two people were actually fighting in person, and it's brutal and intense, but looks badass. I have a good feeling this might be one of the best action movies of next year, even though it hits in January. Check it out!

Watch the first official trailer for Steven Soderbergh's Haywire:

Haywire is directed by Oscar winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, following up The Informant and The Girlfriend Experience, from a script by Lem Dobbs, of Soderbergh's The Limey, as well as Dark City and Kafka. In Haywire, an electrifying tale of espionage and betrayal, a female covert ops specialist (Carano), who works in the deadly world of international operatives, strikes back after discovering she's been double-crossed by someone in the agency. The cast includes Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton. Relativity is releasing Haywire on January 20, 2012.

Watch: Gina Carano Kick Ass in Trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s “Haywire”
by Nigel M Smith (July 22, 2011)

Now you’re just spoiling us, Steven Soderbergh! A week or so the ace trailer for his star-studded thriller “Contagion” dropped; now, with Comic-Con in full swing, we’re treated to the preview for his other thriller, “Haywire,” which looks equally as compelling. (He’s also apparently not retiring after all according to reports at the event.)

In the action flick mixed martial arts superstar Gina Carano plays Mallory Kane, a highly trained operative who performs dangerous tasks for a government security contractor. When she gets double crossed by her own team, she takes matters into her own hands to uncover the reasons behind their failed attempt to snuff her.

Judging by the trailer it’s clear why Soderbergh cast Carano. This girl kicks ass. She reportedly performed her own high-adrenaline stunts and the payoff’s thrilling to witness. The only fault in this trailer is the hokey voice-over that runs throughout. But with Soderbergh at the helm and a supporting cast that includes the likes of Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas and Antonio Banderas, count this as one of the most anticipated titles to hit early next year.

The only thing is… the film drops January 20, 2012—a date that can be viewed as a death knell. So is the trailer all clever editing, or is something really there?

Steven Soderbergh’s action piece plays like a hundred other “an agent betrayed” thrillers.

But there’s a verve to this trailer, the way mixed martial artist Gina Carano kicks butt. Convincingly. This woman is fierce. And the way Soderbergh cast and cut around this non-actress — surrounding her with Ewan McGregor, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender and Antonio Banderas — pretty damned cool.

Reminds me a little of “The Professional.” “Haywire” opens in January.

Watch Steven Soderbergh’s HAYWIRE Trailer!

July 22, 2011 9:23 pm
Matt Holmes

Haywire is Steven Soderbergh at his most pulpy bad-ass, pure entertainment intentioned level since The Limey – a movie I unreservedly love to pieces.

There’s no hidden depth to Haywire. This is not a message movie. It is a pure genre effort from one of the more effortlessly talented filmmakers of his generation featuring MMA fighter Gina Carano in perhaps the most demanding physical female leading role since Uma Thurman wore Bruce Lee’s yellow tracksuit in Kill Bill.

This is a spy thriller cranked up to 11. Watch Carano kick-ass, look sexy, show off her fighting skills, take part in a car chase, get double crossed and take name in a revenge thriller written by Lem Dobbs (The Limey) and scored by David Holmes (Ocean’s trilogy, Out of Sight).

Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender (whose whole arc is featured here!), Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Frikkin’ Douglas in the kind of role he OWNED in the 90′s, and Michael Angarano support with Channing Tatum playing the co-star/love interest.

Do yourself a favour and watch this now…

Haywire is coming in January.

‘Haywire’ Trailer Is Here

Posted by Darrenon 25. 07. 2011in News Chat

There is a bit of curiousity factor regarding ‘Haywire’, the first time in many years where a martial artist (in this case, Gina Carano) is plucked from the ring and given a starring role in a A list movie. We knew for some time Carano was going to be in the Steven Soderbergh film, alongside the likes of Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Bandaras and Michael Fassbender. But now it’s crystal clear Carano is the lead. And y’know what? I’m smiling.

Collider gives us the details over the SDCC panel:

Soderbergh says Carano first came to his attention when he turned on the TV and saw Carano fighting in an MMA match. He wondered why someone didn’t build a movie around here. “You’ve never seen anyone perform like this…in a cage,” he remarks. He then says he called up Lem Dobbs (The Limey) and asked if he had any interest in writing a female-centric revenge film. Soderbergh thought it would be fun to watch a female action star who did all of her own fighting and there were no stunt doubles for Carano.

Normally I avoided posting about Comic-Con news, simply because most of the news is presentation, soundbites…but this news is a bit of an exception in my view because it kind of goes under the radar. I’m also a fan of Carano’s, her supporting cast goes without saying, and I can’t think of any film Steven Soderbergh has directed that really went rotten. Not one.

More after this…

Did you like that? Hopefully you did. If you are somewhat skeptical, I don’t blame you. On the surface, it looks like another run of the mill spy gone rogue/agent got set up for a fall/ looking for answers/ payback the whole yardstick. That said, it still could be slick and well made. In addition, it falls back -at least in my POV- regarding martial artists turned action stars. I’m not opposed to it – so long as the filmmakers get the best performance they can out of that action star. With Soderbergh behind this (and reuniting with his ‘Limey’ scribe Dobbs) I’m confident this film will do okay.

Besides, it’s scheduled for a January 2012 release. Now I don’t know what’s going on, but it seems we are getting some of the best action films in the last few years that get released in the early months of a new year.

One more thing. I hope the film is a (mild) hit at least because I want Carano learning British accents. She’d be a great Lara Croft. (I know I’m going to catch hell for that, but there you go)

Okay. Time to face the music. What do you think, In’t friends. I know you all think I’m bananas…

Michael Fassbender gets his ass kicked by a girl in the ‘Haywire’ trailer

What should I call it? Girl-boner? Lady-boner? A quiet-but-powerful orgasm? However you want to describe it, that’s just what happened when I saw this first trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s new film, Haywire. Don’t confuse this with Soderbergh’s OTHER new film, Contagion, in which Dame Gwyneth makes a stroke face and then the rest of the story is just basically Outbreak, only with the bird flu rather than Ebola. This movie - Haywire - is basically just The Bourne Identity, only Bourne is an ass-kicking girl and there’s no PTSD/amnesia. The girl in question is played by newcomer Gina Carano (this is her film debut), but I don’t even want to get into that… because Soderbergh filled the cast with a plethora of delectable man-meat, first and foremost MICHAEL FASSBENDER.

Fassie in a gorgeous suit, and he is deadly, here, there and everywhere. I’ve never really seen him do a full-on action film, and his moves in the trailer… well, I don’t know. It looks more choreographed than they probably wanted it to look, but I’ll still watch this junk and try to lick the screen. The part where Fassbender (who is playing an assassin too, it seems) punches this Gina chick in what appears to be the back of her head…? OMG. And then she tries to rip his head off with her thighs… I would have loved to have rehearsed that part endlessly. “Um, Mr. Soderbergh, I really think Michael and I need to work on that bit for a few more hours- er, I mean, DAYS.” And then she shoots My Fassbender in the face!! NOOOOO! Not his beautiful face!!!! *cries horny tears*

And I love Ewan McGregor here too - I love that he’s working with Soderbergh, I love that he’s part of this ensemble. Who else? Antonio Banderas!! Yay! And Channing Tatum even looks pretty good, as does Bill Paxton. I could take or leave Michael Douglas and Michael Angarano (best known as the dude Kristen Stewart dumped for Sparkles).

So… yeah, the film looks derivative of the Bourne franchise, but I think this ensemble is far superior to the Bourne films. My only worry is that if this becomes a new franchise, My Fassie won’t be any more because his character is dead!!

Honestly, I don’t care … and a starring role or appearance from an MMA fighter won’t suddenly make me want to see a movie. It’s going to be interesting because of the some of the high-profile names working on the project, so we’ll see how regular movie viewers pay attention to this film.

first trailer for steven soderberghs haywire drops in 62539 470 75 First trailer for Steven Soderberghs Haywire drops in

The first trailer for Steven Soderbergh's action thriller Haywire has shown up online.

Only hours ago, we were being wowed by footage from the prolific director's latest at Comic-Con.

The movie is bustling with generations of male acting talent, with a cast including (deep breath): Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender and Channing Tatum.

Come the end of this footage though, the person who's guaranteed to stick in your mind is MMA star Gina Carano, looking set to break out into the big leagues with this.

Studios often seem keen to secure another Bourne, and it looks like Soderbergh could deliver just that, with sinister agencies, super-trained assassins and frenetic action aplenty.

Check out the trailer immediately:

Soderbergh is always threatening to retire, but on the strength of this promo, we're hoping he can be persuaded to keep going for a few more years.

Haywire is set to open in the US on 20 January 2012. Soderbergh's other new film, Contagion, is due to arrive this October.

Gina Carano Goes Gun Crazy In Haywire Trailer
July 23, 2011 By Martyn Conterio

When I was really young I had a poster of Cynthia Rothrock on my wall. For some flick I recall titled ‘Criminal Law’ (a quick google search reveals it is actually ‘Martial Law’). I’ve never seen said film but the poster allowed me to dream. The point being: why hasn’t there been a western cinema martial arts legend since? You know, for the DVD and Blu-ray generation? Yes, there’s been action flicks with female leads such as Charlize Theron, Angelina Jolie and some others but not a proper B-movie icon.

I’ve always considered Steven Soderbergh to be a rather overrated sort. Common consensus among serious, contemplative cinema fans suggests The Limey is Soderbergh’s best film. I quite agree. Although, I have a soft spot for Kafka. Anyways, The Limey is Soderbergh’s best flick but Haywire might just change that. The director, funnily enough is re-teaming with Lem Dobbs (who wrote The Limey) for a new actioner starring Gina Carano who might be the 21st century answer to Cynthia Rothrock!

If he can take Sasha Grey, a young porn star who is scarily cine-literate, and make an arthouse flick, then surely he can unleash his inner action helmer and deliver a slick, arse-kicker packed with arse kicking?!

It seems Haywire takes Godard’s old maxim that all you need for a movie is a girl and a gun. Then add an old school B-movie assassin narrative (‘they left her no choice’) and a girl who kicks the living s$#! out of some dudes for our viewing pleasure. Great cast too: Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender and Ewan McGregor. And Antonio Banderas with a great big bushy beard!

Also, I love the pulp fiction novel style poster too.

Haywire is directed by Oscar winning filmmaker Steven Soderbergh, following up The Informant! and The Girlfriend Experience, from a script by Lem Dobbs, of Soderbergh’s The Limey, as well as Dark City and Kafka. In Haywire, an electrifying tale of espionage and betrayal, a female covert ops specialist (Carano), who works in the deadly world of international operatives, strikes back after discovering she’s been double-crossed by someone in the agency. The cast includes Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton. Relativity is releasing Haywire on January 20, 2012.

First badass trailer for ‘Haywire’ revealed at Comic-Con

Looking at the first trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire I can’t help but think that this must be the very definition of an action movie. It is unbelievably badass! Non stop action scenes for over two minutes. That’s more than some films from that genre have stretched out over two hours!

But wait, here is the best part! The leading role is played by a woman. Namely MMA fighter Gina Carano. Way cool! And again – super badass! And if that’s not enough for you, here is her support cast: Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, Dennis Quaid, Michael Angarano and Bill Paxton. Yikes! This movie is so on must-watch list for January 2012!!

Watch: Haywire is a massive action thriller
Published on July 22nd, 2011 by John in First Look, Trailers

The hand to hand combat in this movie is really going to be unforgettable. The trailer was expected for sometime now. The voice over on the trailer can be a little irritating. But the action really stands out in this film.

Steven Soderbergh brought out the trailer for his second film Contagion even before he finished work on Haywire. That was a real surprise. This one plays out like an action spy film with an amazing cast. The film would not look this good without the help of Gina Carano.

She is really not that great with dialog but she substitutes that with her action. The long drawn out action scene with Michael Fassbender looks amazing. The supporting star cast includes Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton, Michael Douglas and Michael Fassbender.

Carano plays a covert ops specialist who is betrayed by the people she works for. But the extended the action sequence with Michael Fassbender got the buzz that film really needed. The film will be hitting theaters in January 2012.

Poster and Trailer for Haywire with Gina Carano and Ewan McGregor

Ready to see a woman cut loose and kick butt in a major way… and make it look easy while doing it? MMA star Gina Carano is in Haywire to stomp ass and chew bubble-gum… and she’s all out of bubble-gum. Check out the trailer to see action as real as it gets in the movies.

Carano makes her big-screen debut as a privately employed special ops agent that’s been double-crossed by her employer. Sure, it’s a worn-out plot device but Carano brings a sense of realism to the action genre, and she looks good doing it. How awesome is this femme fatale? Awesome enough that watching her in a MMA fight on TV was enough to convince director Steven Soderbergh that a star was born, and it didn’t take long to put those MMA skills to maximum use.

The catch-word for Haywire is realism, and Carano, along with the others, did their own stunts. The body doubles got to take a vacation and there’s no worries about missing action because of camera cutaways. This is the real deal. When we see Carano slug Channing Tatum, she’s really slugging him. Ahhh…. to have the opportunity to punch Channing Tatum. I wonder if the realism helped his acting skills any.

Haywire punches its way into theaters on January 20, 2012, and packs an all-star cast that includes Ewan McGregor, Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas, and Bill Paxton.

First Trailer For Haywire
Added Jul 22, 2011,

Yesterday I provided you with a poster for Steven Soderbergh‘s upcoming action/spy film Haywire and now today I can provide you with a trailer, a trailer that is full of kick ass hand to hand combat all delivered by the tough and sexy Gina Carano.

What I really enjoy about the trailer is the fact that it doesn’t really hold anything back, yet it certainty looks like Soderbergh still has some tricks up his sleeve. The trailer clearly shows her dominating both Channing Tatum and Michael Fassbender, but there is still a ton of cast that’s left on her hit list! Haywire is looking really good and I can’t wait to see it!

Haywire stars Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender, Channing Tatum, Michael Douglas, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Benderas, and Bill Paxton. It is set to be released on January 20th, 2012.

MMA Fighter Gina Carano Kicking Ass In Haywire Trailer
by Travis Leamons - July 22, 2011

Steven Soderbergh is a director that would probably stick out like a sore thumb at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. But with two new movies coming out – to be released three months a part – the director has ingratiated himself with the Comic-Con experience by having his films get some exposure to whet appetites. We’ve covered his film Contagion already, giving you the theatrical trailer and the poster, but it is the January release, Haywire, that will be more appealing to those attending Comic-Con. Especially those who like seeing a woman kick ass and take names.

Mixed Martial Artist Gina Carano stars in this action film that features the likes of Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Douglas, Antonio Banderas,
Michael Angarano, and Bill Paxton.

Carano definitely brings the action, but the question remains if Lem Dobbs can deliver a decent story. You may remember Dobbs previously wrote the Soderbergh films Kafka and The Limey. Relativity Media will release Haywire in theaters on January 20, 2012, hoping to attract the same audience that made Taken a super hit and Unknown a modest one.

TRAILER TITILLATION: STEVEN SODERBERGH’S HAYWIRE
Posted by Jonathan Sullivan

The hype machine that is Comic Con continues, as Relativity Media has released the trailer for Haywire, the espionage action flick directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring MMA fighter Gina Carano (yes, there are women in MMA you sexist pig!). Check it out below, and thanks to Deadline for making me aware this popped up:

Here’s the plot synopsis for Haywire, taken from the YouTube page:

Haywire seems like the kind of straight to DVD schlock you would find in a Wal Mart 5 dollar bin, not a movie with a stellar cast and a director that many hold in high regard. Even the trailer itself seemed right out of the coming attractions you skip through on DVD’s, with that cheesy voice-over. There must be something to this though to attract people like Michael Fassbender and Michael Douglas, but I’m missing it. Gina Carano does kick a lot of ass in this trailer though, I will admit that but anyone who doesn’t think she’s going to get out acted by every single cast member is delusional. Let’s hope they find a good middle ground because if she sinks, Haywire sinks.

Haywire hits theaters January 20, 2012.

Gina Carano, Michael Fassbender and Channing Tatum in the trailer for Steven Soderbergh’s Haywire

Steven Soderbergh’s upcoming action/thriller HAYWIRE just hasn’t been getting the same amount of love as his other film coming out this year CONTAGION. However, that may soon change after viewing this trailer. The story isn’t anything too special, a black ops super soldier is looking for some payback after she is set up during a mission, how many times have we seen this plotline? What previous films didn’t have in their back pocket was MMA fighter Gina Carano kicking some butt and taking some names. Even though this film also stars Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Antonio Banderas, Michael Angarano and Michael Douglas, I couldn’t help but be fascinated by how hardcore Ms. Carano was. I want to be her when I grow up.

HAYWIRE hits theaters on January 20, 2012. Soderbergh’s other film CONTAGION opens in theaters on September 9, 2011 and stars Matt Damon, Marion Cotillard, Bryan Cranston and Kate Winslet.

Action packed trailer for Soderbergh's HAYWIRE is a dud

Posted under: movie trailer news action thriller

Looks like before he calls it a day as a director, Steven Soderbergh is going to pump out as many movies as he can. In addition to Contagion (trailer) which opens September 9th, Soderbergh has an action thriller titled Haywire scheduled for release in January of 2012.

With MMA star Gina Carano (performing all of her own stunts) and a long cast list including Channing Tatum, Michael Fassbender, Ewan McGregor, Michael Angarano, Antonio Banderas, Michael Douglas and Bill Paxton, this action thriller stars Canano as Mallory Kane.

Kane is a highly trained operative who works for a government security contractor in the dirtiest, most dangerous corners of the world.

But when things go haywire, Mallory realizes she'll be killed in the blink of an eye unless she finds a way to turn the tables on her ruthless adversary.

The trailer features a wide assortment of stunts but I have to admit it failed to get my blood pumping. I'm all for Soderbergh playing in this arena but I hope the movie has more energy than the trailer does.
