X-Men: First Class had the bad luck to follow the single worst X-Men movie ever made. So a lot of you, quite understandably, steered clear of it. Nobody would blame you for that. The scars of Last Stand were only just healing, and now they expect you to fork over your hard-earned dollars for another X-Men movie? And this one is full of characters nobody's ever heard of! No thanks, buster.
But here's the thing: First Class is actually pretty awesome. The '60s period setting works beautifully on both a thematic and visual level. It focuses on the most interesting relationship in X-mythology, that between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik "Magneto" Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender). It portrays Charles as a swinging ladies' man who picks up chicks using evolutionary biology and says "groovy" a lot. It even features the single best film cameo since Bill Murray's turn in Zombieland.
After a month or so of reflection, I'd place First Class as the second best X-Men film, right behind X2, and more importantly, it's a new start for the series that is rich with potential, assuming they stick with the period setting and First Class' cast. I mean, we've already got contemporary superhero flicks out the wazoo; how could we not want several more films' worth of crazy '60s mutant action? You should give it a chance, is what I'm saying.
And now you'll have a second chance to let First Class make a first impression. Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment will release X-Men: First Class on Blu-ray and DVD on September 9th. Based on the press release, it looks like you'll have to opt for the Blu-ray version if you want any bonus features.
Blu-ray bonus features include:
10 Marvel “X-Men” Digital Comics with exclusive X-Men: First Class Backstory Comic
More than two hours of never-before-seen extras, including:
Cerebro Mutant Tracker: The complete interactive Mutant Database with interactive videos giving fans the ability to learn about their favorite mutants in the X-Men film franchise.
Children of the Atom: An eight-part behind-the-scenes featurette, charting the film from pre-production through post-production, including visual effects techniques and cataloguing “X-Men” transformations through prosthetic makeup and costume design.
“X” Marks the Spot: An interactive feature allowing viewers the opportunity to learn more about specific scenes with talent interviews and behind-the-scenes footage.
Extended and Deleted Scenes
BD-Live Portal with additional Cerebro Mutant Tracker profiles
Composer’s Isolated Score
Theatrical Trailer
If you're one of the lucky thousands hitting up Comic-Con this week, be sure to stop by the Fox booth (#4313). The first 1,000 fans who pre-order X-Men: First Class during Comic-Con (July 21-24) will get a free limited-edition T-shirt, "showing their support for either 'Team Charles' or 'Team Erik.'” During this time, you'll be able to pre-order the Blu-ray for $25.00 and the DVD for $18.00. (You can also order online via FoxConnect.com during this time.)

“X-Men: First Class” Blu-ray date and details
By: Sean O'Connell
Hollywoodnews.com: In a summer movie season chocked full of superhero efforts – from “Green Lantern” to “Thor” – it’s Matthew Vaughn’s “X-Men: First Class” that I’m most looking forward to seeing on Blu-ray.
Sounds like Sept. 9 will be my lucky day.
CraveOnline is reporting that 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment plans to release a Blu-ray, DVD and Digital Copy package of the X-Men prequel, which stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Charles Xavier and Magneto, respectively, during their difficult formative years.
The studio also is drumming up support with a humorous, “Twilight”-inspired Team Erik and Team Charles contest. Free t-shirts are involved (and who doesn’t like that?)
Here is a look at alternate box-cover art. Be sure to click the link above to find out how to score some choice “First Class” t-shirts by ordering the Blu-ray during San Diego’s Comic-Con.

'X-Men: First Class' deleted scene: Is THIS the reason Magneto hates Prof. X? -- EXCLUSIVE VIDEO
by Anthony Breznican
Sometimes being an arch-nemesis is a real drag.
Exhibit A: Consider this deleted scene from X-Men: First Class, included in the DVD out Sept. 9. It all starts innocently enough: Eric Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender) and Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) are on a recruiting mission for their new, government-sanctioned mutant strike force.
Angel (Zoe Kravitz) is working as a stripper, and they want to get her to reveal how her dragonfly tattoos actually emerge from her body to form real wings. Magneto levitated a champagne bucket to show her his power, but Angel never quite got a demonstration of Professor X’s mindbending abilities. Now we see why that was left on the cutting room floor. Check out the clip below:
Say what you will about what an ugly broad Fassbender is, but what does this tell us about the characters? Magneto has no idea what's going on, of course, but Professor X -- wow, kinky. He's the one dreaming of his work colleague in fishnets, red hair, and go-go boots.
Angel asks, "How did you do that?"
I'd be asking, "Why did you do that?!"

New X-Men: First Class Deleted Scene Will Leave You Speechless
August 27, 2011 By Tim Leng
With mere weeks to go until the really rather brilliant X-Men: First Class hits on Blu-ray and DVD, a new deleted scene from the movie has surfaced giving us an altogether different perspective on one particular moment from the film.
In the sequence where Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Michael Fassbender) attempt to recruit Angel (Zoë Kravitz) to their fledgling mutant team, the man who will become Magneto is seen using his abilities to levitate a champagne cooler. In turn, this scene shows how Charles then uses his abilities to … well, just look for yourself.
Sadly, or as the case may be thankfully lest your haunting cries of “MY EYES!” keep me awake tonight, the video isn’t embeddable, so you’ll have to head on over to Entertainment Weekly’s Inside Movies to see it in its entirety. Trust me, you’ll never look at Magneto quite the same way again.
Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

And Now For A Deleted Scene From 'X-Men: First Class' Featuring Magneto In Drag PDF Print
Written by Instinct Staff | Thursday, 25 August 2011
Given the X-Men franchise's, from its comic books to the big screen, predilection for subtextual LGBT issues, its hard to imagine why the creative team ulitmately scrapped this scene featuring Magneto a.k.a. Eric Lehnsherr (played by actor Michael Fassbender) donning drag at a strip club.
The scene is one of a few deleted scenes that will appear on the September 9 Blu-Ray/DVD release of X-Men: First Class.
Unfortunately, Magneto won't be shantaying her way to the winning tiara on RuPaul's Drag Race anytime soon. Girl needs some help!
