Michael Fassbender
The actor that everyone wants. Video interview and photogallery
“Everybody expected me to wear a smart suit and shiny shoes but I opted for my flip-flops”
The actor that everyone wants.
“…I see things quite visually …I’m a very visual person.”
With a chef as a father and the mother running the family restaurant, the future for Michael Fassbender seemed already very clear.
If it wasn’t for that strong passion for acting that changed everything: his first performances on stage date back to when he was 17 when Michael joined a theatre course followed, not longer after that, by the studies at the Drama Centre London, the same acting school where actors like Russell Brand, Pierce Brosnan and Colin Firth also trained.
His track record is remarkably varied and ranges from epic movies like Tarantino’s 300 and Inglourious Basterds to adrenaline-packed superhero blockbusters like X Man: First Class to receive the ultimate recognition at the last edition of the Venice Film Festival where his role in Shame as a businessman obsessed with sex earned him the Volpi cup for the best actor.
It’s considered a sex-symbol and a style icon in his own way though he candidly admitted having a few gaps to fill in the fashion department: “I’m not very savvy when it comes to fashion, right now I like wearing comfortable clothes”.
As a matter of fact, he knows enough to understand that showing confidence in what you are wearing is a key element in attracting people’s interest.
During the Venice Film Festival everybody noticed how he often showed up on the red-carpet sporting flip-flops: “Fashion to me is about wearing what makes me feel good” commented the actor on that occasion. Everybody expected me to wear a suit and shiny black shoes but I opted for my flip-flops.”
To our surprise today we have found out that while preparing for a film role, it’s from the feet that he starts his study on the character: “Shoes are the most important element to me: the character’s shoes as well the way he walks are the basis of the physical analysis on the character. Feet can give away a lot.”
When he thinks about his future he imagines himself doing something different from his current career though he doesn’t rule out becoming a director. And, as you’ll hear it through his voice, once again it will be the passion for telling stories to drive him through this new challenge.
