Exclusive: 'Prometheus' Michael Fassbender interview: "There's a lot of comedy"

Michael Fassbender is renowned for unflinchingly raw portrayals of emotional turmoil on screen, but his role as an android in Ridley Scott's Prometheus offers the acclaimed actor a new series of challenges.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, the Hunger and X-Men: First Class star reveals that his character David provides an element of comedy to the film and explains how an Olympic diver helped him to perfect the "efficiency of movement" required to play an artificial life form.

He also discusses the chances of returning for the proposed sequel to the Alien prequel related movie.


"We did look at The Man Who Fell To Earth," Fassbender says about the influence of David Bowie's alien character on his portrayal. "I always liked the idea of David watching many television screens and taking information down from all of them - that ability to multitask on that level."

As for the feeling of being part of Ridley Scott's return to the sci-fi genre after three decades, Fassbender states that "all crew members have a feeling that they're working on something special when they're working with Ridley".

Prometheus opens in UK cinemas on June 1 and June 8 in the US.
