THR reports a list of blockbuster movies being developed in Australia over the next year, and the list includes Ridley Scott's Prometheus.

However the NSW government recently announced a swag of development work will take place her over the coming year including the lead work on Walking With Dinosaurs 3D, Ridley Scott's Prometheus and Hem, a 3D pilot being made by Animal Logic.

To be more specific, the NSW government is referring to Sydney based visual effects company Fuel VFX.
Fuel VFX has previously worked on movies such as Iron Man 2, Bedtime Stories and Baz Luhrman's Australia.

According to the NSW government, Fuel VFX will be hiring over 40 visual effects specialists to work on the project.

Sydney company Fuel VFX will provide some visual effects for the 3D film “Prometheus”, to be directed and produced by Ridley Scott, employing over 40 visual effects specialists

Some rumoured locations for Prometheus

Ain’t It Cool News have been sent some interesting news that was reported this week in Scotland, regarding some possible location filming spots for Prometheus.

According to AICN reader James, here’s what one local paper had to say:

“ALIENS are to invade the Highlands – after secret plans were hatched to film a prequel to the sci-fiblockbuster trilogy (sic) in Scotland.

Location scouts for the long-awaited movie, with original Alien director Ridley Scott in charge, have already visited Inverness and Fort William.

All cast members had to sign secrecy clauses and were made to read the script in Ridley Scott’s Hollywood office. And when Kate Dickie, 39, needed to see the screenplay in Glasgow a security courier flew to Scotland and stood guard over her for two hours.

But the cat was let out of the bag when the film-makers asked about accommodation in Inverness and surrounding towns during August.

They are looking for rooms to sleep a cast and crew of at least 150 people.

While other mountainous parts of Europe have also been considered, the Scottish Highlands backdrop is favoured because it fits the new film’s central theme of “grand mythology and universe” in which this original story takes place.

Mediacom, whose film travel and accommodation office is based at Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire, would confirm only that a “large feature film” was due to shoot in the Highlands from early August until September, then elsewhere in Europe in October and November.”

Meanwhile, reader ‘William Wallace’ sent a couple of photos of the supposed locations that really speak for themselves…

Prometheus is directed by Ridley Scott, from a screenplay by Damon Lindelof, based on an earlier, abandoned Alien prequel script by Jon Spaihts. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie, and is due for release on June 8th 2012.http://www.prometheusmovie.co.uk/2011/03/some-rumoured-locations-for-prometheus/

Rafe Spall, who has landed a big role in Ridley Scott’s much anticipated sci-fi thriller Prometheus. He will join Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Noomi Rapace and the three actors I broke news of last week — Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie.

Ridley’s movie is about gods and monsters and, contrary to the director’s claim (a smokescreen) that it’s not an Alien prequel, I hear the complete opposite. I’m told a monster is being developed right now that is so terrifying it’s scaring the designers! Anyway, we shall see.

The film is in pre-production, with shooting set to begin on sound stages at Pinewood Studios on March 21 for a four to five-month shoot.

A Look At Prometheus

You know what, when I first heard there were going to be two Alien prequels, I thought here we go again. My hopes of ever wanting to see another Alien film diminshed for good after that liquid s$#! Alien Vs. Predator: Requiem. Then it was announced that Ridley Scott protege Carl Rinsch was all set to direct.

Hmmm, okay...

Rincsh was later taken off the project by Fox citing he wasn't big enough for the project. Then Ridley Scott took over the reins.

Download this gallery (ZIP, null KB)

Even though Ridley Scott took over the Alien prequels I wasn't 100% happy, that's because I wanted Scott to make The Forever War, which he's been linked with for years. And another reason was like I mentioned above: I was done with the Alien franchise -- and then I learned what the Alien prequel, now titled Prometheus, would be about.

Here's some facts:

* Prometheus is rumoured to be a non-Alien film, but set in the Alien universe
* There are rumours that we made the Xenomorph's as a biological weapon
* We will learn the back story of the Space Jockey
* Although I'm not 100% on 3D, I'm glad Prometheus will be
* The cast is great: Michael Fassbender, Noomi Repace, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Kate Dickie
* H.R. Giger is back on the design team
* It's a $200m sci-fi film directed by Ridley Scott for crying out loud

Here's what Ridley Scott recently said about Prometheus:

While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.

And here's what writer Damon Lindelof, also said:

In a world flooded with prequels, sequels and reboots, I was incredibly struck by just how original Ridley’s vision was for this movie. It’s daring, visceral and hopefully, the last thing anyone expects.

Just behind John Carter of Mars and The Dark Knight Rises, Prometheus is fast becoming the must see film to see in 2012.

Check out this fan art I come across on the Prometheus IMDb messageboards recently.

Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' at Pinewood Toronto
11:20 AM 3/8/2011 by Etan Vlessing

Sci-fi epic shooting across seven sound stages in Toronto for three weeks.

TORONTO -- Ridley Scott’s sci-fi epic Prometheus from 20th Century Fox has quietly slipped into Pinewood Toronto Studios for a three-week shoot.

Production across seven stages for the Charlize Theron-starrer is also notable for the Pinewood Studios Group, backed by Ridley Scott and brother Tony, managing the Toronto mega-studio.

Also cast in the June 2012 release is Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender.

Sci-fi will also dominate Pinewood Toronto Studios as Columbia Pictures’ Total Recall shoots on its soundstages from May 15, with Len Wiseman directing.

Guillermo del Toro’s At the Mountains of Madness 3D, to be produced by James Cameron, has also booked space at Pinewood Toronto Studios.

But a planned summer shoot could be delayed as del Toro reportedly eyes a possible gig on Legendary Pictures' Pacific Rim.

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus Starts Shooting In Toronto
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011 at 1:30pm

* by Adam Rosenberg

We still don’t for sure if H.R. Giger’s alien designs will feature into it, but Ridley Scott’s not-an-Alien-prequel Prometheus has officially started production in Toronto at Pinewood Studios, The Hollywood Reporter confirms. The shoot will go on for three weeks, though the cast — including confirmed stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace — will have plenty more work ahead of them once that’s finished.

Rapace recently revealed that there’s a lengthy production ahead in an interview with MTV. “I’m jumping into that straight off of [Sherlock Holmes 2]. My character’s name is Elizabeth Shaw, and I’ll step into her shoes in March and be her for six months or something,” she said. “It’s quite a long shoot. It’s unbelievable.”

More unbelievable is the awesome fact that we’ll soon be returning to the Alien universe. Whatever this movie might be — prequel, sequel, spin-off, remake, dream sequence, what if? scenario … whatever, it’s a new work of science fiction from one of cinema’s modern masters, set in an enduringly popular universe that he himself created.

Prometheus Begins Shooting Where?
Source: The Hollywood Reporter
March 8, 2011

It's time for your daily Prometheus update!

That's right. We're excited to see what Ridley Scott has in store for the Alien universe and we're told we have good reason to be excited (hence the updates).

Today, THR reported Pinewood Toronto Studios in Canada is housing Scott's production for three weeks. What they are shooting, to what extent they are shooting and which cast members are involved is unknown, but it looks like principal photography has begun.

Scott will likely be bouncing around the globe for this production (London should be next). Hopefully, Shock will be getting a call soon for a set visit.

Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender and Charlize Theron star in the film which is due June 8, 2012.

Ridley Scott’s Alien Prequel Commences Shooting
By
Stefan Jenkins
– March 28, 2011

Alien Film StillWhether news that Ridley Scott’s Alien prequel fills your stomach with chestbursters where the butterflies should be or just infuses the kind of primal, motherly rage expressed by the Alien Queen after having her whole egg batch blown to yellow goo, the film now titled Prometheus has begun shooting at the new Pinewood Studios in Toronto.

Scott promises a faithful return to the 1979 original’s mixture of claustrophobic, gothic horror with a story that focuses predominantly on the film’s other iconic extra terrestrial being, The Space Jockey [that elephant headed, skeletal astronaut corpse they discover on the derelict horseshoe spacecraft].

Fox has immersed the film’s production in a Christopher Nolan/JJ Abrams sized cloud of secrecy, although reports of the casting of such Hollywood figure heads as Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba have been circulating in the press for some time.

The Canadian studio’s gigantic sound stages have previously provided sets for X-Men 2, The Incredible Hulk and the Resident Evil films, meaning they are no strangers to conjuring the epic Sci Fi worlds Scott promises in his prequel. Judging by the deterioration of the Alien franchise by a tug of war between several notable auteur directors and the crushing vice of the Hollywood system, is it a good thing this beast is being awoken? Or should it just be left to slumber?

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus Set Report
Written by: Michael on March 28, 2011

Ridley Scott PrometheusI am a huge fan of Ridley Scott’s filmmaking and an even larger fan of the Alien film franchise. Yes its had some pretty weak sequels but I own the box set no Bluray / DVD and VHS which should speak volumes for my passion for this franchise.

As you should all know Ridley Scott has a prequel story lined up called Prometheus starring Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace which will be hitting theaters on March 9th 2012. A lucky film student had a chance to hit the set and has revealed a whole pile of interesting details on the film in a post on the IMDB boards. They write;

“It should rank as one of the highlights of my life so far. I am a screen-writing student in Ottawa and our class had a 3 day visit to Toronto to pitch our ideas to the studios. After the usual meetings with script editors and agents I, all alone, made my way to the studio. I have never seen production facilities in my life and it sure left an impression. [It was] like a huge warehouse overlooking the sea. I walked in the facility and could see huge RVs all around. I went around asking some officials if they knew where Prometheus was being shot and as it turned out- It was the only movie being shot at the moment. I met one of the guards or officials and talked to him for around twenty minutes.

He told me that there is a set piece which is 3 blocks high and one of the most “alien” things he has ever seen. The highlight was when he said they had built two massive spaceships or some futuristic vehicle which was very un-futuristic. I was confused but realized what he meant was the spaceships would probably be very un-glossy. Something like a night-mare of a ship and the Nostromo came to mind automatically. I asked him about Ridley but he said he wasn’t around…”

I think its a safe bet that the large space ship that they speak of is the one with the long dead pilot ( featured in the image in this post ). Ridley Scott has spoken about the plot and its ties to the original Alien movie and said;

“While Alien was indeed the jumping off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place. The keen fan will recognize strands of Alien’s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”

MTV also revealed some highlights on Prometheus and its connections to Alien in an interview with Michael Fassbender shortly after he was cast. He told them;

“Oh, absolutely. There’s a definite connecting vein,” Fassbender told MTV News when asked pointblank whether or not “Prometheus” and “Alien” are connected. “You realize you’re part of something else, but it’s definitely in keeping with the old ones.”

Although it explores other areas of that universe, it appears that “Prometheus” and “Alien” exist in the same space. For Fassbender, that connection was initially a bit overwhelming: “When I read it, I was like, ‘Well, okay, another Alien. Where do you go with this idea?’ And then I sort of read the script, and it’s new, yet it’s in keeping with the old traditions as well. But there’s a whole new revelation within this film.”

What do you think of Prometheus? Excited?

ALIEN prequel PROMETHEUS has begun filming
On 03.28.11, by Andrew Hobbs

OH YEAH! The ALIEN quadrilogy IS getting a prequel (sequel?) under the title PROMETHEUS! Ridley Scott is coming back as director for the project that is being overseen by both the Brandywine production company, and (Scott’s own) Scott Free productions. This is HUGE news for the millions of die-hard ALIEN fans the world over, and there is even an entire website dedicated to releasing information about the film.

The project entered the filming stages at Pinewood Studios last Monday, March 21st, and reports coming off the set are exciting. Apparently, the ENTIRE studio lot in Toronto, Canada has been dedicated to the film. And, there has been a report of a THREE-BLOCK-HIGH SET PIECE (Spaceship)! That’s right, a spaceship that is as tall as three city blocks are long.

Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, and Michael Fassbender have already been announced as the starring cast. Other names involved include: Noomi Rapace, Logan Marshall-Green, Katie Dickie, Rafe Spall and Sean Harris. The writers of the film are Damon Lindelof and John Spaihts, whose previous work include 2009′s STAR TREK, and THE DARKEST HOUR, a film that is currently in post production.

PROMETHEUS is scheduled to open on June 8th, 2012 in the USA, and it could shape up to be the blockbuster event of the decade. I. Can. Not. Wait.

First Look – Space Jockey From Ridley Scott’s Prometheus
Published on April 1, 2011 by Craig Sharp

An eager FilmShaft reader has just alerted us to a leaked image from Ridley Scott’s upcoming Alien prequel/spinoff, Prometheus. Delving further into the world of the mysterious “Space Jockey” which featured in the original film, the story exists within the Alien universe and yet expands far beyond what we already know into it’s own story.

With production set to begin on the film soon and an impressive array of names including Michael Fassbender, Logan Marshall-Green, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Idris Elba, Sean Harris being linked to the film, it’s exciting times for sci-fi fans.

Well now it finally looks like we’re getting our first sneaky peek of the aforementioned Space Jockey in the shape of concept art, leaked online. The image was first posted over at AvP Galaxy and seems to show the alien sporting a Predator-style shoulder cannon. Another thing of note is the distinct lack of legs on the design.

While this image is supposedly genuine, we’re still awaiting confirmation, but it’s close enough to the original Space Jockey from 1979′s Alien (pictured top left) to be plausible. Take a look at the image below and let us what you think, is this what you were expecting? It does have a distinct HR Geiger style to it, maybe it’s closer related to the infamous Xenomorph than previously thought?

New Prometheus Rumors Suggest Major Alien Ties, Return Of The Space Jockey

published: 2011-04-05 15:25:20 Author: Katey Rich

Have your fistful of salt at the ready while we dig into the latest rumor about Prometheus, Ridley Scott's next film that was once known as an Alien prequel and now isn't, except maybe it is anyway? Even though the production is quickly assembling a cast that includes Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, precious little information about the actual plot has leaked, and it's entirely likely that whatever leaks we do here are part of deliberate misinformation campaigns, kind of like what the team behind The Dark Knight Rises is doing to keep us in the dark over there.

So with all that said… Market Saw has gotten some secondhand details from one of their most trusted sources about what to expect from the film. Honestly it's a lot along the lines of what we've heard already-- it's an epic scope, it deals with the Alien universe in some direct and indirect ways, it may or may not involve the Space Jockey-- and it's written in such a cryptic way it's hard to glean any specific details. Here's one paragraph as an example of what I'm talking about:

The story is a very closely guarded secret in Hollywood, and while it is not a direct prequel "officially" it has more than just passing ties towards the Alien saga's canon. You will have all the things that worked in the Alien canon, and very new and fresh and some controversial ideas presented, sexuality is dealt with quite directly. There may even be a robot or two. And the ship, which I am told is the current titles name, Prometheus. Highly original, both in concept and design I hear.

You can head over to Market Saw to read more, though like I said, don't invest too much in seeing any of these details coming to light in the film. Prometheus is slated for release less than a year from now, on March 9, 2012, so it at least won't be that long a wait for all to be revealed.

Possible New Details On Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’
Published on April 5, 2011 by Nick Newman

Ridley Scott‘s upcoming Prometheus seems to have had more speculation thrown around about it than 90% of other films coming out over the next few years, and it won’t stop anytime soon. Things such as its status as a prequel to Alien, creature designs or even what the title means have left the Internet speculating, and some might consider any new piece of information we get on it to be substantial.

So, good news for those who are excited: a large amount of details have apparently come in from MarketSaw, with them having a source that’s said to be close to the film’s production. Among other things, it talks about the climax, its connections to the Alien series, a similarity to 2001, as well as the sexuality present.

As for its third act, that’s said to be when it takes a turn toward connecting it with the Alien series. We’ve heard about the involvement of the Space Jockey from the first film in that franchise, and this goes along with that. As the quote below says:

“…the final act is where the movie switches gears and shifts into Aliens territory. Pinewood houses an exact replica of the H R Giger Space Jockey command post. You may notice in the original Alien that the Space Jockey had a puncture on its considerably large chest, where the xenomorph broke out through the flesh of the creature and broke through the biomechanical armor it wears. You may also notice how big the Space Jockey is in relation to its human counter parts in the film. So imagine how big the baby must be, which is yet to grow. Then imagine quite a few of these. If you can do that, you got a pretty good grasp on the final act.”

The source also said that the look of the creatures is different from what we’re used to seeing from the xenomorph antagonists, and they apparently do “very perverse things.” This goes along with rumors we heard back in February, which said that the creatures would appear in a form where they’re not entirely recognizable. What I want to know is: what are these “very perverse things” they do? That’s got me intrigued more than anything else.

Of all the sci-fi movies that we would’ve guessed it shares similar story traits with, 2001 wouldn’t exactly be high on that list. However, this person claims that the story is “reminiscent” of Stanley Kubrick‘s film, and that it’s also “trying to push the boundaries of what a modern tent pole science fiction movie could be.”

The similarities in terms of story I can see; both might have a crew that’s sent some kind of beacon message from a distant part of the galaxy, and then things get a little wonky on their trip there. Hey, you could even say that’s kind of like the plot of the first Alien. As for the claim that it’ll “push boundaries,” that makes me think it’s really going to utilize its epic scale to have audiences feel the scope of what they’re watching; that may not seem new, but not that many movies given the opportunity to do so actually take advantage of their considerable resources. If that is in fact what they’re talking about, I’m happy to know that a movie such as this one will actually make me feel I’m getting an “epic” story.

One last piece of info this source gave out said that “sexuality is dealt with quite directly.” The first thing that I thought of was Noomi Rapace‘s character, and the idea that she might become romantically involved with one of the supposedly titular ship’s passengers. Considering that Michael Fassbender plays a robot, that could mean some interesting things would be happening here, right?

Prometheus opens on March 9th, 2012.

Do you think there’s any truth to these rumors? Would you rather see Prometheus with fresh eyes, or do these potential details excite you?

‘Prometheus’ Reports Include Minor New Casting and Rumored Alien Descriptions

Posted on Thursday, April 21st, 2011 by Russ Fischer

Ridley Scott has been shooting Prometheus, his new film that is maybe or maybe not an Alien prequel — for a short time at the fabled Pinewood Studios. Security must be relatively tight because we’ve seen almost no spy pics since the shoot began, and the trickle of rumors about the film has been cut off as well.

But now a new report gives up names reportedly attached to a couple of minor roles, and also claims to provide very vague descriptions of some of the aliens in the film. And by ‘aliens,’ I mean Aliens — aka the classic xenomorph from Ridley Scott’s original Alien.

AlienPrequelNews presents info taken from a call sheet that includes Emun Elliot playing a character named Chance, and Benedict Wong playing someone called Ravel. Benedict Wong’s own Twitter feed seems to support his presence in the film, as he recently said simply “prometheus…boom!”

But the juicier stuff is a description of some alien players that were kicking around the studio.

The site prints an email from a source that says,

I can confirm seeing 3 aliens having lunch. Not the whole costume but blueish costumes and the unmistakable heads hanging around their shoulders…The alien heads were the same shape [as the xenomorph from Alien] but no markings, only a plane bronze colour. As for the suits black boots and shoulder pads the rest was a Chelsea blue body suit could be for SFX, all the sets around the back of the bond stage have huge green chromokey maybe that’s a clue.
I have witnessed foam cut outs of unmistakable aliens all cut in half lengh ways so they could be in the floor walls etc and very much from the original film.

The report also describes the presence of “an enormous structure” at the back of the James Bond stage, which is reportedly the Space Jockey’s craft. Keep in mind that this is all completely unconfirmed, but the rumors of the presence of both the Alien space jockey and xenomorphs have been mounting for a couple months, with actor Michael Fassbender even saying that this movie is absolutely connected to Alien. I’m skeptical about everything until we see some footage, but I can’t say I’m not excited to see what the hell Ridley Scott is cooking up in Pinewood.

EXCLUSIVE: Some juicy details from the set of Prometheus
A source who says he's currently working at Pinewood Studios sent me an email today revealing some very juicy details regarding Prometheus. Surely with a few hundred people working at Pinewood every day it can't be easy for Sir Ridley and team to keep everything entirely under wraps.

I've made a few checks on this source and the story and it all seems pretty trustworthy to me, so please take this news as you wish.

First of all, this source managed to come across a call sheet which was for filming between April 6th - 8th. The call sheet was for the S Stage at Pinewood, where apparently the bridge of the Prometheus was being filmed. Which confirms that the ship is indeed named Prometheus as previously speculated. On this call sheet were the following names:

Charlize Theron - Vickers
Idris Elba - Janek
Emun Elliot - Chance
Benedict Wong - Ravel

Emun Elliot is previously known from TV series Lip Service, and Benedict Wong is probably better known having played in movies such as Sunshine, Moon, Dirty Pretty Things and Spy Game.

To back this story up, Wong's twitter feed on March 22nd (the day after Prometheus began shooting) secretly confirms his involvement in Prometheus.

"prometheus........boom!"

And here's the most interesting news, I've left for last:

"Though security on the set is very tight with the good weather, dock doors have been open and cast and crew have been enjoying lunch outdoors.
I can confirm seeing 3 aliens having lunch. Not the whole costume but blueish costumes and the unmistakable heads hanging around their shoulders"

I asked the source to elaborate some more on the look of the aliens, and their resemblance to the aliens from the original Alien movies:

"The alien heads were the same shape but no markings, only a plane bronze colour. As for the suits black boots and shoulder pads the rest was a Chelsea blue body suit could be for SFX, all the sets around the back of the bond stage have huge green chromokey maybe that's a clue.
I have witnessed foam cut outs of unmistakable aliens all cut in half lengh ways so they could be in the floor walls etc and very much from the original film."

My informant also managed to take a look at the Bond stage, where according to previous rumors the Space Jockey's space craft has been built. And his impression pretty much backs this rumor up:

"I managed to enter the bond stage one weekend when no filming was sheduled all I can say is there is a very very long tunnel that leads to an enormous structure at the back of the stage which is the same height as the stage and probably extends out another 200 ft.
All of these sets are surrounded by wood foam and scaffold so sid not see inside, I think this is were the Space Jockey set is."

[UPDATE]: Emun Elliot is also now confirmed. According to his agency's website he is indeed playing a character named Chance in Prometheus. Thanks to Darren for this tip.

Prometheus starts shooting at Pinewood Studios
May 3rd, 2011

Production has begun at Pinewood Studios on Prometheus, an original science fiction epic directed by Ridley Scott. The Twentieth Century Fox, Scott Free Productions and Brandywine Productions film, stars Noomi Rapace (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo), Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class) and Academy Award®-winner Charlize Theron (Monster).

The production is using several stages at Pinewood including the world famous 007 Stage. This is the fifth time that Ridley Scott has shot at the studios; previous films have included Alien, Legend, White Squall, and Robin Hood.

Ridley Scott said of working at Pinewood and Shepperton: “It’s my heritage, my personal heritage, I film everywhere in the world and I think all things considered what we have to offer here are as good as anything you’re going to get in Hollywood.”

Andrew M. Smith, Group Director Corporate Affairs for Pinewood Studios commented: “We are thrilled to welcome back Ridley Scott and the new production, Prometheus to the studios here at Pinewood. It’s a testament to the UK’s experienced crews as well as the expertise of hundreds of complementary media companies based on site, that these films continue to choose Pinewood to film.”

Prometheus re-teams Scott with several of his long-time collaborators, including production designer Arthur Max (Robin Hood, American Gangster), Academy Award®-winning costume designer Janty Yates (Gladiator, Robin Hood), and Academy Award®-winning editor Pietro Scalia (Black Hawk Down, Gladiator), as well as set decorator Sonja Klaus (Robin Hood, Kingdom of Heaven).

The film is scheduled for a June 2012 release by Twentieth Century Fox.

More PROMTHESEUS Plot Details Emerge

Cool! More PROMETHEUS plot details have emerged courtesy of The Starseeker website. this is some pretty cool info about our guy the Space Jockey from Alien.

I was speaking with a guy who is working on the set of Prometheus and he showed me some pictures and told me about the storyline," writes the site. "The space jockey that you see in Alien who has had his chest busted open is the guy who engineers the aliens. He sends the aliens to a planet that he wants to take over. The aliens kill the locals and he flys in and pillages the land of its resources. It seems as though he is responsible for the aliens' creation, I’m guessing that he is some kind of super scientist.

The engineer is played by some huge guy who is 8ft tall. He appears even bigger in the space jockey scene from Alien as he is wearing a space suit. He appears to have died in a seat that looks like it is some sort of weapon control, this is in fact the navigation system that the space ship uses to open worm holes and plot its course. Perhaps the aliens revolted and, knowing that he has been impregnated, he is desperately trying to return home to have the alien extricated?

He showed me some pictures from the set. There is a huge silver bust of the engineer's head, it is approximately 15m high. It appears that the engineer is sort of leader of a civilization and there is a cult around his personality and his alien creations, this is probably due to the fact that he has mastered the technology that continues to provide the resource requirements of his home world. I also saw a picture of the actor who plays the engineer in what appeared to be some sort of cryo-chamber."

Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS stars Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce and Michael Fassbender. It invades theaters on June 8th, 2012.

Fassbender Remains Cryptic About Prometheus
Source:Metro, Alien Prequel News
June 2, 2011

With the release of X-Men: First Class (which is pretty damn cool, we've seen it) arriving this week, Michael Fassbender is back in the press and this time he's at Metro being grilled about Prometheus.

The interviewer there asked the actor if Ridley Scott's film is a straight-up prequel to Alien. Fassbender responded, "Hmm, shall I cause controversy? Um, no. The thing is, it’s not a prequel. It definitely is separate. It is a separate story, but there are threads that connect the stories."

There you go.

Meanwhile, Alien Prequel News got their paws on a rather uneventful set photo from London.

Scott is presently shooting the film with Noomi Rapace, Fassbender, Logan Marshall-Green, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie and Guy Pearce.

Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Creature Designer: 'It's Such An Undertaking'

Posted 9 hrs ago by Kara Warner in Interviews, News, Video

Despite the fact that production on "Prometheus" is in full swing, we still don't know much of anything about Ridley Scott's revisit to his "Alien" beginnings.

We know that the cast is pretty killer, featuring star Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Idris Elba and newest addition Guy Pearce. We also know that while there will be plenty of "Alien"-esque nods and imprints in the film, Scott and backing studio Fox have assured us that it is not a prequel, sequel or reboot.

There are still so many things we don't know however, so at the off chance we encounter folks working on or around the film, it is our duty as film fans and journalists to pepper him/her with questions, like when we ran into 'Prometheus" creature designer Neville Page earlier this week and asked him how he's approaching the alien design on the film.

"My approach is nervous," he said with a smile. "I approach Ridley with great nervous energy because it is such an undertaking. ['Alien'] was the movie that inspired everything for me, not just creature design, but filmmaking in general," he admitted. "It is a huge undertaking to try and take it to the next level; to make Ridley proud, to make [H.R.] Giger proud, there's a lot involved with that."

What about the amount of practical effects, which were largely relied upon and highly successful in the original "Alien," vs. the amound of CG effects he and Scott plan to use?

"I don't know, I can only asume that it's going to be like with ['Green Lantern']," said Page, who worked his magic with creature design on Hal Jordan and CO. "[We'll] use whatever it takes to make it look as good as it needs to look."

‘Prometheus’ to Shoot in Iceland’s Stony Desert Highlands
By Gig Patta on July 08, 2011

Iceland’s Stony Desert Highlands may look like a perfect remote location for the surface of an alien planet.

MarketSaw blog is reporting the production of Ridley Scott’s science fiction film “Prometheus” will be shooting at the Stony Desert Highlands near Landmannalaugar (Landman Pools) in Iceland.

Scott and his team scouted the location back in April by private jet and then helicopter. The production will shoot for seven days in Iceland.

According to MarketSaw, security is redirecting tourists to advance any further towards Landman Pools.

Here is a description of the Highlands on the blog:

The Highlands of Iceland cover most of the interior of Iceland. They are situated above 400-500 meters and are mostly an uninhabitable volcanic desert, because the water precipitating as rain or snow infiltrates so quickly into the ground that it is unavailable for plant growth, which results largely in a surface of grey, black or brown earth, lava and volcanic ashes. A few oasis-like areas, such as Heroubreioarlindir near Askja, are found only in proximity to rivers.

Some of the most interesting parts of Iceland with volcanic activity are to be found in the Highlands, such as Landmannalaugar and the region around Askja and Herobreio.

The Highlands can only be crossed during the Icelandic summer (June to August). For the rest of the year, the highland roads are closed. The best known highland roads are Kaldidalur, Kjolur and Sprengisandur. Most highland roads require four wheel drive vehicles, because it is necessary to ford rivers. However, the Kjolur route can easily be traversed in an ordinary sedan and is therefore one of the more popular highland roads. Off-road driving (“road” in this context meaning tracks that are already present) is forbidden entirely in Iceland where there is no snow, including the Highlands, to protect the environment.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Guy Pearce, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie and Logan Marshall-Green.

Here is the official synopsis:

Visionary filmmaker Ridley Scott returns to the genre he helped define, creating an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explores on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.

“Prometheus” will be in theaters on June 8 next year.

Production of Ridley Scott’s sci-fi prequel “Prometheus” has moved from London to Iceland for two weeks of filming kicking off today at the country’s Hekla volcano with around 15 minutes of the final film featuring Icelandic locations should everything go to plan. Cast members Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Noomi Rapace are all set to take part in the shoot which will include the Dettifloss waterfall – the most voluminous waterfall in Europe.

“There is a lot of innovative and new stuff in the film and it would be a shame to ruin that [surprise] with leaks” said Sir Ridely when asked for plot points, though he does says this part of shooting covers “the beginning of time”.

Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green and Guy Pearce also star in the film which is set to open next June.

Ridley Scott’s PROMETHEUS Visits Iceland For “The Beginning Of Time”

Iceland has always been one of the places on this God’s green earth that I’ve always wanted to visit. The views just look majestic, at least from what I’ve seen on discovery channel and images online. Just take a look the shot of Dettifoss waterfall above. Tell me that’s not freakin’ awesome!
Director Ridley Scott who’s in the middle of bringing you that Alien-esque sci-fi, PROMETHEUS, is aware of Iceland’s beauty and he’s taking the project there…

Via Icenews, 2 weeks worth of shooting for PROMETHEUS will take place in Helka, Iceland. Stars of the film, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace will all be there, specifically at Dettifoss waterfall, known for the most powerful by volume of water, in Europe.
Iceland will not take up much screen time, the scenes will be worth 15 minutes total in the movie.

“If one is afraid of nature in this profession then it would be best to find a different job,”
.. if all goes to plan. We are shooting the beginning of time.”
“It is possible to find similar landscapes elsewhere in the world,”..
“But here it is so rough and ‘Jurassic-like’ and that proved decisive. Iceland is a massively beautiful country.”
“There is a lot of innovative and new stuff in the film and it would be a shame to ruin that [surprise] with leaks.”

So Scott is still keeping the plot a secret for now. That’s ok, as long as it’s worth the wait.
The beginning of time scene huh?! “Jurassic-like” huh?! I don’t blame Scott for picking Iceland for those particular reasons. Any filmmaker would do the same.

PROMETHEUS, starring Ben Foster (Pandorium, The Mechanic), Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Sean Harris , Kate Dickie, and Logan Marshall-Green
The film will have a presentation at Comic-Con 2011 on Thursday, July 21st. I’ll let you know how it goes.
PROMETHEUS opens June 8th, 2012

"Prometheus" Heads To Iceland

Production of Ridley Scott's sci-fi drama "Prometheus" has moved from London to Iceland with two weeks of filming kicking off today at the country's Hekla volcano says Ice News.

Scott says that around 15 minutes in total of the final film will feature Iceland locations should everything go to plan. Cast members Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, and Noomi Rapace are all set to take part in the shoot which will include the Dettifloss waterfall - the most voluminous waterfall in Europe.

News of the filming comes less than a week after international media erroneously reported that Hekla was about to erupt. "There is a lot of innovative and new stuff in the film and it would be a shame to ruin that [surprise] with leaks" said Scott when asked for story details, though he does says this leg of shooting is "the beginning of time".

Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green and Guy Pearce also star in the film which opens next June.

Ridley Scott’s ‘Prometheus’ Filming In Iceland

07/11/2011

Andrew Ashari

Ridley Scott’s heavily kept secret project, Prometheus, is moving production to Helka, Iceland. The team is planning on shooting for two weeks, using locations in order to show “the beginning of time.” The science fiction film features “an original science fiction epic set in the most dangerous corners of the universe. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life’s ultimate mystery.”

Scott explains that the majority of the shoot will take place at “Dettifoss waterfall – Europe’s most powerful by volume of water. There is a lot of innovative and new stuff in the film and it would be a shame to ruin that with (spoilers) leaks.” The location of the country will be in the film for a total of 15 minutes. Charlize Theron, Noomi Rapace, and Michael Fassbender will be at the location for the shoot.

Prometheus will be released in 3D on June 8, 2012.
