Jame McAvoy joins as Professor X

Posted on 27. May, 2010 by John in Featured, Movie News

This is a role to die for in the series. To see James McAvoy as Professor X will be something all together. He is not really a seasoned actor when it compares to the previous offering of Patrick Stewart. Matthew Vaughn is probably getting it right with the first casting for the film. This is not a great step but a good one indeed.

Matthew has already set his film for a June 3 rd 2011 relase. So he will be working in overtime for this film to see the release achieved. There is also a chance to see Michael Fassbender as Magneto. This will be something to watch out for in the coming weeks on who will play who.

The film will be will be in the same region of the Magneto closed project. So it will be set in the beginnings of the X men world. Here is what Mattew had to say about the project in question.

“[The film] chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.”

The film is currently is going through a touch up with the writers of Kick Ass and Stardust. It is also a produced by Bryan Singer who will be offering up another mutant film in the future.

James McAvoy (Wanted, Atonement, The Last Station) is signed on to play a young Charles Xavier in X-Men: First Class, directed by Michael Vaughn (Kiss-Ass). According to Fox:

'[First Class will] chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Eric Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.'

This is so LOL that I love it. Can't wait to see who's cast as Eric. The Playlist dream-casts Michael Fassbender, who, like McAvoy, has quite an interesting filmography, ranging from Hunger, to Tarantino's Inglorious Basterds, to the comicbook adaptation 300. (THR)

- Director Matthew Vaughn has cast Wanted star James McAvoy to play the role of the young Charles Xavier (created by Patrick Stewart) in Fox’s next X-Men installment, the origin story X-Men: First Class. We like The Playlist’s casting suggestion of Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) to play Xavier’s evil opposition, Magneto (originally Ian McKellen).

James McAvoy To Play Professor X In Matthew Vaughn's 'X-Men: First Class'

We did say 20th Century Fox were in a hurry and wanted to cast this one quick, did we not?

And it's true. Scottish actor James McAvoy ("Wanted," "Atonement," "The Last King Of Scotland," in the descending order of films you've seen) has been cast as Professor X, or Charles Xavier if you like, in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class," which is already set for a June 3, 2011 release date (hence the rush, they have to shoot soon).

McAvoy will be stepping into the role made fanboy-iconic by actor Patrick Stewart; the crippled and glabrous wheel-chair bound teacher of his own School for Gifted Youngsters (mutants). Does this mean the the fantasy dreams we've heard of Michael Fassbender playing Magneto could come true?

Dare to dream, no? We honestly figured they might go after Marc Strong for the role of Xavier, but apparently they are casting much younger which means Cyclops, Beast, Angel, Iceman and Jean Grey — the young version of the "X-Men" screen characters you know — will likely have to be played by actors in the actual realm of teenagedom (and, not the "Spider-Man" 3D idea of a teenager; McAvoy next to 26-year-old Andrew Garfield certainly wouldn't work).

A few short weeks ago, Vaughn was off and on the "X-Men" young reboot, but eventually signed on after some back and forth haggling.

However, the biggest surprise of "X-Men: First Class" is that it sounds slightly closer to the era of the "Magneto" film that was once bandied about. Check what THR gets from Fox:

“[The film] chart the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were the closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-Men.”

There's not even a mention of the young X-Men teens. Whatever the case, we should expect to hear more casting news asap, the film is readying a summer shoot in London. The script passed through the hands of Josh Schwartz ("The O.C."), writing team Zack Stentz and Ashley Edward Miller ("Thor") and most recently, what sounds like a newer version by Jamie Moss ("Street Kings") underneath the supervision of Bryan Singer (who is now one of the producers; sounds like he'll direct another Mutant film a few years down the line, now that they've kissed and made up), but received a recent touch-up by Jane Goldman, co-writer of Vaughn's "Kick-Ass" and "Stardust."

Personally, I'd love to see Michael act opposite James in anything, but this will mean that Michael won't be available for "A Single Shot" which is supposed to be filming in the summer. And the studios want this Xmen film ready for next year.

James McAvoy to play Charles Xavier in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS -

This film seems like an utter disaster to me just because the idea of having the titular characters played by teenagers just doesn't sound interesting. However, there are a few things keeping me slightly open to the film: 1. Matthew Vaughn is directing 2. Bryan Singer has been heavily involved in the development of the film 3. Chances of it being better than THE LAST STAND and WOLVERINE are very good considering those films are terrible and lastly - I see McAvoy as a good choice for Xavier. Yeah, there are a few people griping about this, but I can imagine it was difficult to find someone worthy of filling Patrick Stewart's chair. I like McAvoy and certainly see a lot of potential in him playing a young Xavier because he has a certain seriousness and presence that is necessary. We'll just have to wait and see who fills out the rest of the cast, most importantly Magneto. The actor who is eventually cast is going to need to have a great amount of onscreen chemistry and tension with McAvoy (Stewart and McKellen had a great friend/enemy relationship). Three actors I wouldn't mind seeing in the part: Michael Fassbender, Tom Hardy and maybe Ryan Gosling. Only time will tell, but I'd be least surprised about Hardy as he worked with Vaughn in LAYER CAKE.

Michael Fassbender in negotiations to play young Magneto in 'X-Men: First Class'
by Nicole Sperling

James McAvoy has found his nemesis. For Twentieth Century Fox is in negotiations with German actor Michael Fassbender for the role of Erik Lensherr, the man who becomes Magneto in the X-Men origin story X-Men: First Class. Fassbender, who most recently appeared in Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds has been a hot commodity of late. He was rumored to be considered for the villain role in the reboot of Columbia Picture’s Spider-Man. Fassbender came blazing onto the scene last year with his dynamic role in last year’s indie film Fish Tank.

X-Men: First Class will be helmed by director Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass). The film will depict the early years of the relationship between Charles Xavier and Lensherr, two young mutants who are first discovering their powers. At first the two are the closest of friends, working together to stop a huge global threat. They later become enemies, leading to an eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Production is set to begin this summer in London.

X-Men: First Class is scheduled for release on June 3, 2011.

Fassbender In Talks To Play Magneto In <i>X-Men: First Class</i>

No sooner do we mention Michael Fassbender and X-Men: First Class than Hollywood Insider reports the 33-year-old actor is in negotiations to play Erik Lensherr, aka Magneto, in the reboot of Fox’s mutant franchise.

The news comes as little surprise, obviously, considering a report surfaced last week that the Inglourious Basterds co-star was being courted by Sony/Columbia for the Spider-Man reboot and by Fox for First Class. This would be Fassbender’s third comic-book adaptation, following 2006’s 300 and Jonah Hex, which opens this weekend.

Directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass, Layer Cake), First Class stars James McAvoy as a young Charles Xavier in a story that centers on his relationship with Lensherr as they discover their fledgling mutant abilities and work together to stop a global threat. As we noted earlier, Benjamin Walker reportedly has been cast as Hank McCoy (aka the Beast).

Production is set to begin this summer in London. X-Men: First Class opens on June 3, 2011.

Michael Fassbender is Young Magneto in X-Men First Class
Comic Book Movie News, X-Men: First Class (2011) Movie — By Nix on June 17, 2010

It’s almost official: barring any bumps in negotiations, Michael Fassbender (“Hey, that’s Michael Fassbender!”) is going to play Young Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s upcoming “X-Men: First Class”. The film will tell the story of how Magneto, whose real name is Erik Lehnsherr, came to meet a young Charles Xavier (to be played by James McAvoy), the man who would go on to form the X-Men and become known as Professor X.

Fassbender has been in an obscene number of movies, though your average moviegoer probably will have no idea who he is because he’s never really taken center stage, and the man is something of a chameleon. For instance, he was in last year’s “Inglourious Basterds” and he’s one of the villains in the upcoming “Jonah Hex” (the tattooed guy), though most people will have no clue. A major role in “First Class” should change all that.

Ian McKellen has played an older version of the character in all three “X-Men” films, along with Patrick Stewart as the older Professor X.

Production on “X-Men: First Class” is set to begin this summer in London under the guidance of “Kick Ass” director Matthew Vaughn, from a script by him and his writing partner Jane Goldman. Get a taste of the first class of “X-Men” in 2011.

20th Century Fox offer Michael Fassbender Magneto role in X-Men: First Class

by Liam on June 18, 2010 · View Comments

Michael Fassbender Just over a week ago we heard that Michael Fassbender was wanted by Sony for the villain in the Spider-Man reboot, and by Matthew Vaughn for X-Men: First Class. Well according to Deadline and EW 20th Century Fox has formally offered Fassbender the role of Magneto after he read for the part last week. If Fassbender accepts he will star opposite James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.

Details from Deadline:

After two weeks of reading up and coming young actors for X-Men: First Class, 20th Century Fox has formally offered the role of Magneto to Michael Fassbender. Fassbender is also being courted to play a villain in the next Spider-Man. He can’t do both and Fox is confident they will make a deal and have him join James McAvoy, who was recently set to play Xavier. Fassbender was offered the role today after reading last week, along with Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Jack Huston and Eddie Redmayne.

Johnson was spotted with Vaughn and McAvoy last month and it was thought he was in talks for Cyclops given his age, however he could have been in line for Magneto.

If Fassbender accepts then Vaughn is forming one hell of a cast, one that will no doubt please fans as Fassbender has been on their wish list for a while. Now it’s just a matter of finding young versions of Cyclops, Jean and Storm, along with other mutants that may be featuring in First Class.

X-Men: First Class cast starts to get firm: Magneto, Beast, etc.

by: Dave Davis Jun. 17, 2010

Matthew Vaughn's prequel X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is dashing toward production faster than Quicksilver (or Northstar, or some other speedy Marvel mutant), so the cast is coming together quickly.

As was previously reported, actor Michael Fassbender (300, INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) was being pursued for both the role of Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto in the mutant spinoff, and the main villain part in Sony's SPIDER-MAN reboot. Now Deadline says that Fassbender just got an official offer for Magneto and "Fox is confident they will make a deal and have him join James McAvoy, who was recently set to play [Charles] Xavier."

Deadline also says that Fassbender recently read with young actors Aaron Johnson (KICK-ASS), Andrew Garfield, Jack Huston and Eddie Redmayne, in undisclosed roles. Their names join the rumored Amber Heard and Rosamund Pike.

Meanwhile, Showbiz411 says that young actor Benjamin Walker will be playing athletic genius Henry McCoy, a.k.a. Beast (sorry furfans, it's the pre-blue version of the character). Walker appeared in KINSEY and FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS, but has been receiving raves for his recent stage work in "Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson".

THE SKINNY: We've already got James McAvoy assuming the role of a young Charles Xavier ("Professor X") in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, and now Deadline Hollywood is reporting that INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS actor Michael Fassbender is 20th Century Fox's top pick to portray the pre-villainous Magneto – real name: Eric Lehnsherr.

Fassbender is also being pursued by Sony to play an unspecified villain in their upcoming SPIDER-MAN reboot. The problem is, Fassbender can't star in both films, and will be forced to make a choice.

According to Deadline, once Fassbender is locked into the role of Magneto, Fox will start to make headway with casting the prequel's other key roles, and already have a list of actors in mind, including: Ben Walker, Rosamund Pike, and Amber Heard.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS will be directed by KICK-ASS helmer Matthew Vaughn, and is set to begin production in August for a June 3, 2011 release.

'X-Men: First Class' finding its Magneto in Michael Fassbender

The villainous mutant leader Magneto may have proved more irresistible than the villain in the relaunched Spider-Man movie.

Michael Fassbender, who was being courted for both roles from Fox and Columbia, respectively, has entered early negotiations to play Magneto in "X-Men: First Class," which Matthew Vaughn is directing. The news was first reported by Showbiz411.

The studio is in full-blown casting mode for the movie, which is gearing up for an August start in London, and Fassbender's name surfaced last week. The studio has been testing and reading actors such as Aaron Johnson and Andrew Garfield to join James McAvoy, who is playing Professor Xavier in the movie, which focuses on the superpowered team X-Men in a younger incarnation than the previous trilogy.

Fassbender's big Hollywood break came with a key turn in "Inglourious Basterds," where he played Canadian spy Archie Hicox. He has a role in "Jonah Hex," which opens tomorrow, and stars in Neil Marshall's Roman action movie "Centurion," which opens in August.

The real question here is, how badly does Columbia want Fassbender as their villain? Could Columbia make an aggressive play for the actor?

Michael Fassbender Offered Role Of Magneto For X-Men First Class
by Jay Cochran in Marvel at 10:38 PM on 2010.06.17

Deadline is reporting that actor Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) has been offered the role of Magneto in the upcoming "X-Men: First Class" movie from 20th Century Fox.

According to the report, Fassbender was offered the role today after reading last week, along with Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Jack Huston and Eddie Redmayne.

Fassbender is also being courted by another studio to play a villian in the upcoming Spider-Man movie as well, so it remains unclear which part the young actor will choose if either, but one thing is for sure, he can't do both movies.

Already confirmed for the role of Charles Xavier is actor James McAvoy (Wanted).

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS begins production this summer for a June 3, 2011 release. Bryan Singer, who conceived the story for FIRST CLASS and directed the original “X-Men” and its sequel “X2,” is producing along with Lauren Shuler Donner and Simon Kinberg.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS, following the classic Marvel mythology, charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga. Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known.

Early Progress on X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Casting

In case you’ve been wondering what Marvel has in store as the next chapter in the X-Men movie universe, the word is that X-MEN: FIRST CLASS will be that film, taking the super-hero team of mutants back to their earlier days. The project is set to be directed by Matthew Vaughn. He’s the guy that brought us the awesome film adaptation of Mark Millar’s KICK-ASS comic book.

Two big bits of casting news hit recently… first, Showbiz411 reports that the up and coming, Juilliard-trained young sensation in New York theatre Benjamin Walker is being cast as a young Beast, the character played by Kelsey Grammer in X-MEN 3: THE LAST STAND. Walker’s biggest roles in film to date have been in 2004’s KINSEY and Clint Eastwood’s 2006 war film FLAGS OF OUR FATHERS.

Second, and this is potentially a real biggie… Deadline New York reports that Fox has officially offered Michael Fassbender (INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS) the role of a younger Magneto in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS. This would be great, however, he’s also being sought after to play a villain in the next SPIDER-MAN film, so he wouldn’t be able to do both. Talk about tough decisions!

If Fassbender accepts Fox’s offer, he’ll join the existing cast of Aaron Johnson (KICK-ASS), Andrew Garfield (THE IMAGINARIUM OF DR PARNASSUS), Jack Huston (OITLANDER), Eddie Redmayne (THE OTHER BOLEYN GIRL) and James McAvoy (WANTED) who is set to play a younger Charles Xavier. X-MEN: FIRST CLASS is scheduled to hit theaters on June 3, 2011.

Young Magneto Cast
Jonah Hex baddie opts for X-Men prequel over Spidey reboot.
June 17, 2010
by Jim Vejvoda

There's a new master of magnetism in town and his name is Michael Fassbender.

The Hollywood Reporter says the German-born, Irish-raised actor -- who plays a henchman in this weekend's comic book movie Jonah Hex -- is in early negotiations with 20th Century Fox to play the villainous Magneto in the prequel X-Men: First Class.

Fassbender had been mulling two different Marvel projects. Even as Fox was pursuing him for X-Men, Columbia Pictures reportedly offered Fassbender the role of the unnamed villain in their Spider-Man reboot.

According to THR, British actors Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) and Andrew Garfield (The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus) have both tested or read for X-Men. The trade didn't specify which role they were up for, but it's safe to assume given their age and look that it's Cyclops. (Ironically, both actors have also been rumored to be up for the title role in Spidey.)

Deadline adds that Jack Huston (The Twilight Saga: Eclipse) and recent Tony winner Eddie Redmayne (The Pillars of the Earth) read opposite Fassbender last week, as did Johnson and Garfield. Ben Walker (The Golden Compass) is also mentioned. It should be noted that all of these young actors are British.

X-Men: First Class begins filming this August in London under the direction of Kick-Ass helmer Matthew Vaughn. James McAvoy will play Professor X.

Michael Fassbender In Negotiations To Play Magneto In 'X-Men: First Class'; Ben Walker Cast As Beast?

Were we not one of the first sites that actively said Michael Fassbender would make a great Magneto in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming mutant reboot, "X-Men: First Class"? It was rumored last week that 20th Century Fox were pursuing the actor for the role of the X-Men nemesis and that Sony was after him for the villain role in Marc Webb's "Spider-Man" 3D reboot and according to several sources, including EW, Deadline and THR, this all seems to be true. Adding to all this Showbiz 411 who broke the original Fassbender news says 28-year-0ld actor Ben Walker ("Kinsey," "Flags Of Our Fathers") has been cast as the brainy and brawny hero Hank McCoy otherwise known as the Beast (his role was unwisely played by Kelsey Grammar in the unfortunate Brett Ratner film, "X-Men: The Last Stand"). The New York Times actually mentioned this earlier in the week, but did not say which role.

Fox has evidently formally offered Fassbender the role and its his for the taking if he wants it. Actors who are reading for the part that seem like locks (or are already locks essentially) are Aaron Johnson ("Kick-Ass") and Andrew Garfield (the "Red Riding" trilogy). As already reported Rosamund Pike ("An Education") and Amber Heard are also names being thrown around for roles presumably like Jean Grey and Moira MacTaggert the scientist under Professor X who is being played by James McAvoy.

Other actors who are in the mix for possible roles are Frank Dillane (also up for the Peter Parker role in "Spider-Man" along with Garfield and Aaron Johnson; there's been a lot of incestuous casting possibility's between both super hero projects), Jack Huston ("The Twilight Saga: Eclipse") and Eddie Redmayne ("Savage Grace") who recently was provisionally cast as the lead in Spielberg's "War Horse" before the director changed his mind.

We should all know by now that anyone Tweeting about a casting audition will never get the role, but in doing so, actress and model Jasmine Dustin may have inadvertently revealed that a young Mystique from the Brotherhood of Evil (Magneto's cronies) will also have a role in the film (for all we know someone like Heard is after the role originally played by Rebecca Romijn too).

Though seemingly more of a thespian than a Hollywood actor, Fassbender is in high demand in Tinseltown, but after the abomination that was "Jonah Hex" hopefully he'll think twice before jumping on to another super villain role. Though presumably "X-Men: First Class" is a cut above the about-to-be-released Warner Bros. embarrassment. Let's hope so anyhow, the talent involved so far is solid. If they're going to cast Garfield btw, we totally see him as Angel. The picture shoots this summer in London.

Michael Fassbender Confirmed As Magneto, Beast Cast In X-Men: First Class
By Josh Tyler: 2010-06-18 00:00:18

Michael Fassbender Confirmed As Magneto, Beast Cast In X-Men: First Class After seeing him play some sort of weird, boxing leprechaun in Jonah Hex, the goodwill I felt for Michael Fassbender after Inglourious Basterds has taken a hit. But if he does right by this, he’ll win it all back. EW has confirmed that as rumored, Michael Fassbender will play a young Magneto in Fox’s X-Men: First Class.

James McAvoy is already on board the film to play a young Charles Xavier, and now he has a nemesis. Or maybe he has a friend? Xavier and Magneto actually started out as friends in colleagues in their early days, back when Magneto went by the name of Eric Lensherr. It’s unclear which Magneto we’ll see in the prequel: Friend or foe?

Also confirmed to be on board the film is unknown Benjamin Walker. Showbiz 411 says he’s been cast to play Hank McCoy, better known as Beast. In X-Men: The Last Stand Kelsey Grammer played the character, and did a good job of it, though it was hard to notice since so much of the film around him was generally awful.

Beast becomes the first of Professor Xavier’s students to be cast in the film. Now that the hairy, blue genius is handled the others are sure to follow at a rapid pace. Stick around, we’ll let you know as soon as they’re announced.

Magnetized

I am loving this casting news.

German-Irish actor Michael Fassbender, who smoldered in Inglourious Basterds and is currently wreaking havoc in Jonah Hex, is in talks to join James McAvoy in X-Men: First Class.

Fassbender would play Erik Lensherr, the man who becomes Magneto in the origin-story movie.

Yes! I love this (handsome) man and how he’s combining commercial endeavors with art house fare. He’s also playing Mr. Rochester in the new Jane Eyre….

Will Michael Fassbender be the next 'Magneto'?

Michael Fassbender's latest Hollywood studio movie, "Jonah Hex," is bombing at the box office this weekend, but luckily he has a potential goldmine in the works for his next role.

Rumored for weeks, the supporting actor in such films as "Inglourious Basterds," "300" and the indie darling "Fish Tank" is now negotiating to play a younger Magneto in Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class." James McAvoy is already on board to play Prof. Charles Xavier. Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart played both roles, respectively, in the first three "X-Men" films.

What's making this more interesting, is that Sony Pictures wants Fassbender to play the villain in its new "Spider-Man" reboot. Like Lebron James, Fassbender has a big choice to make that could seriously affect the rest of his career. And with Fox wanting to begin production on "First Class" in August, he'll have to make it soon. In either case, the new project will allow him to quickly forget about "Hex."

This new Class of mutants is really turning into a sexy Beast.

The latest casting info on superhero prequel X-Men: First Class has Benjamin Walker taking on the role of Hank McCoy (aka Beast), alongside James McAvoy’s Professor X and Rosamund Pike’s Emma Frost. Rumors are still swirling that…

Amber Heard (Pineapple Express) could grab the role of Mystique, and Michael Fassbender might portray Magneto, but who knows. But that would definitely make for a smoldering cast in Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn’s take on “young X-Men.”

Walker’s best-known for his stage work. He’s current playing Andrew Jackson in Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, at New York’s Public Theatre, and was part of the 2005 cast of the Tony Award-winning musical Spring Awakening.

Fox Negotiating With Michael Fassbender For Magneto Role In 'X-Men: First Class'
By MIKE FLEMING | Tags: Actors, Movies, Studios | Thursday June 17, 2010 @ 10:06pm EDT

After two weeks of reading up-and-coming young actors for X-Men: First Class, 20th Century Fox has formally offered the role of Magneto to Michael Fassbender. Fassbender is also being courted to play a villain in the next Spider-Man. He can't do both -- and Fox is confident they will make a deal and have him join James McAvoy, who was recently set to play Xavier. Fassbender was offered the role today after reading last week, along with Aaron Johnson, Andrew Garfield, Jack Huston and Eddie Redmayne. Fox will now cast the rest of the roles, with thesps like Ben Walker (but apparently not playing The Beast, as has been rumored), Rosamund Pike and Amber Heard among the names bandied. Director Matthew Vaughn starts production in August for a June 3, 2011 release.

Fassbender, who burst on the scene playing Bobby Sands in the Steve McQueen-directed Hunger, had a beefcake turn in 300 and costarred in Inglourious Basterds. He opens tomorrow in Jonah Hex and also stars in the Neil Marshall-directed Centurion, which opens August 27.
