X-men
Got some proper blog posts to come shortly, but this is just a couple of quick messages to the production guys from X-men: First Class, who were scouting around Oxford yesterday for locations.

1) I want to be you. Seriously. If I'd had time to get one of you on your own I would have worn his face like a mask and pretended to be him for ever so that I could make sure you don't mess up this film like X-Men 3 or The Film That Must Not Be Named.

You have James McAvoy as a young Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Magneto. Seriously, it would actually be harder to stuff this one up than to get it right.

2) If you do decide to get a psychotic Magneto to blow up somewhere in Oxford, choose this place:

No one likes it. It would be well up for a spot of destruction.

However, we have to come to some form of agreement. This place is off-limits.

It is mine. I fully intend to blow it up on screen at some point, and if you guys do it first I will Never Forgive You. I have gypsy blood. That threat means something.

X-Men: First Class filming beneath London - pictures plus details of first scenes
By David Bentley on Sep 7, 10 11:22 AM

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS has gone underground - quite literally, according to a report which claims the production was filming in north London last weekend.

Director Matthew Vaughn and his cast and crew have apparently been shooting scenes at Kingsway Tram Subway, the last surviving part of a former underground tram network built to connect north and south London.

The route opened in 1906 (see photograph at bottom of page), with trams ceasing to run in the capital in 1952. A year later the underground area was used to store 120 buses in case they were needed for the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II at Westminster Abbey that year.

A cavernous area beneath the street and its northern exit slope to the surface still survives today.

A tipster told Comic Book Movie that First Class had been filming there and sent in a picture (above) of a security official at the entrance to the abandoned subway last weekend.

Apparently, the large subterranean area was also used for filming V for Vendetta and one of the Bond movies.

You can see more of the underground site in the image below courtesy of Heritage Locations.

According to X-Men Fillms.net, filming is under way in various locations and on set at Pinewood Studios.

The site says: "Some of the first scenes being filmed involve Charles Xavier attending Oxford University debating the mutant phenomenon, and Erik Lensherr dealing with the horrifying events in Auschwitz via a flashback sequence."

Set for release on June 3, 2011, the film is set mainly in the 1960s and stars James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr/Magneto, documenting the early years of the characters and the events that caused the rift in their friendship.

Also in the cast are January Jones as Emma Frost, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, Edi Gathegi as Darwin, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havok, Caleb Landry Jones as Banshee, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Rose Byrne as Dr Moira MacTaggert, Oliver Platt as Man in Black, Zoe Kravitz as Angel, Charlie Rowe as young Charles, Bill Milner as young Erik, and Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw.

Meanwhile, a new 20th Century Fox logo for the film (see above right) has surfaced on its Wikipedia page.

X-Men: First Class Crew Scouting Jekyll Island; For New X-Mansion Perhaps?

According to the Jacksonville news site, an advance team for 20th Century Fox's X-Men: First Class is considering an island off the coast of Georgia, Jekyll Island. Check it Out!

According to the official media site for Jacksonville, an advance crew for Mathew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class has been scouting Jekyll as a location for the movie, which is currently being filmed in London. The advance crew is consulting with the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, the Jekyll Island Authority and agencies on permits and other requirements for filming on the island, Assistant County Administrator Paul Christian said tonight.

“We’re excited about this possibility,” Christian said. “We’re so happy they’re over on Jekyll looking at the potential of the island. We hope that it comes to pass because it would be a great economic boost for the area.” Christian's wife Susan, the sales and marketing director of the Hampton Inn and Suites on Jekyll, says "[The advance crew is] in our hotel right now, and there are 15 advance people, but the number changes constantly.”

The County Commission passed a resolution at its meeting tonight to write a letter of support for the movie, but made scant mention of it aside from adding it to its consent agenda for items requiring no discussion. The site includes that If Jekyll is approved, the cast and crew could be there as early as next month and may stay through the rest of the fall.

While this could easily be unrelated, previous X-Men: First Class reports say that a new X-Mansion is needed, specifically a "Large brutallist building to double as CIA headquarters". And off the coast of Georgia, Jekyll Island consists of a number of buildings from the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, as well as open fields.

Films that has used the location for specific scenes include Glory, The Legend Of Bagger Vance, and The View From Pompey's Head. And whatever X-Men: First Class has planned for the island, if things even fall through successfully, production has been underway for about a month in locations scattered across London. And the Mathew Vaughn-directed silver age prequel hits theaters July 3, next year!

Director Matthew Vaughn was in Oxford yesterday shooting the upcoming X-men prequel, "X-Men: First Class".

Stars James McAvoy and Jennifer Lawrence were among those seen by onlookers, filming a small scene of the couple leaving the university on Broad Street. Rose Byrne, playing new main character Moira MacTaggert, followed behind them.

As well as using Broad Street, the crew have set up a large base camp in Christ Church meadows. There are also ‘X-Men Crew Only’ food vans next to Radcliffe Square for the duration of filming.

Filming in Oxford is due to last two days, with a small unit remaining here tonight before moving to other worldwide locations.

Based on the popular Marvel comics, the film is being directed by Matthew Vaughn ('Kick-Ass', 'Stardust'), from a story by Bryan Singer who directed the first two movies.

Original actors Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen and Hugo Jackman are not expected to return for the latest film in the X-Men franchise. Instead X-Men: First Class will reveal the early years of the mutant generations.

Although plot details are yet to be officially released, Publicity Officer, Stacy Mann, confirmed that the film is set in the 1960s and will tell the story of the young Professor X (McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) discovering their powers for the first time.

X-Men: First Class will be released in cinemas in June, 2011.

X Men First Class in Oxford
Hollywood came to Oxford (again) as the film crew for X-MEN: FIRST CLASS filmed in sites around the city. They came prepared to create their own rain, but the city provided the real thing for free.

The film, which tells the story of the early lives of Professor X and Magneto, both of whom attended Oxford University in the '60s, hence the period costume being worn by the bored looking extras.

Stars James McAvoy and Jennfer Lawrence were watched by a small group of onlookers (hey it was raining quite hard) as they tried to meet up on at the entrance to the Sheldonian theatre on Broad Street. At least it was easy for them to act out being wet.

The streets around were filled with period vehicles parked up for the wider shots and in these days of austerity measures it seems like the X-Men are being forced to give up the X-Jet for the less glamorous X-Bus.

The film is being directed by Matthew Vaughn and was written by Jane Goldman. Since this is the team behind KICK ASS and STARDUST we have high hopes for it to restart the franchise.

X-Men: First Class Jekyll Island Photo
November 19th, 2010
Savannah Morning News has posted an aerial photograph with a glimpse at the location being used to film X-Men: First Class on Jekyll Island near Savannah, Georgia. Click on the image to take a look at this new shooting location for Matthew Vaughn's upcoming Marvel prequel. You can also read below for new information on potential legal troubles the production may be facing:

X-Men: First Class Location Image on Jekyll Island

Savannah Morning News reports that the Georgia Department of Natural Resources approved production on X-Men: First Class to take place in a 4.5 acre area of the Jekyll Island State Park, although it didn't issue a permit, as required by the state's Shore Protection Act. Since a permit wasn't given, there was no public forum for residents to chime in on the new development. Here's an excerpt from the article:

"The approved activities involve the use of heavy equipment in the dune field and beach to move tons of sand and dramatically alter the area in creating a site location in filming scenes in a new 20th Century Fox movie, part of the X-Men series.

DNR officials say they have often used a letter of permission instead of a permit to approve projects that are temporary - involving no permanent structures or site changes within the shore protection area. However, the origins and extent of this practice remain obscure, and there is no mention of it in the Shore Protection Act."

While the DNR is requiring the production to restore the area after production wraps, they aren't required to "enhance" the area, as was the case with the 1989 movie Glory, when scenes were shot on the island. Since fines are normally levied for a resident driving a car on the sand dunes or even pulling sea oats from the dunes, many are surprised the DNR is going to these lengths to accommodate the production.

It doesn't seem that any legal action is currently pending at this time. You can Click Here! to read the entire article.

New 'X-Men: First Class' Set Pics!
By Kellvin Chavez on December 09, 2010

New 'X-Men: First Class' Set Pics! The folks over at Comic Book Movie alerted us that they posted some set pics featuring an aerial glimpse of "X-Men: First Class" set thats being built on Jekyll Island, Georgia.

The set pics show a pieces of X-Men Jet, or at least it look like it. Looks like a scene from LOST to me.

According to the site filming on Jekyll Island is expected to begin later this month and could even be used for fictional Scottish Muir Island.

Have a look at the pics below and let us know what you think.

The movie is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, and Kevin Bacon.

The movie follows a young Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr before they took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN.

"X-Men: First Class" opens June 3, 2011.

Fox Searching For A Super Villain's Lair For X-Men: First Class!

The studio have been searching for locations in the UK for both an "urban sprawl" and a super villain's lair! Hit the jump for details...
According to local UK newspaper, Your Local Guardian, Fox have been searching Sutton (near London) to use in the upcoming Matthew Vaughn directed movie which has already filmed heavily in Britain. Here's an excerpt from their report:

Location managers for Twentieth Century Fox made enquiries to Sutton Council earlier this year about shooting scenes from the two films in the borough, it emerged this week.

X-Men: First Class looked at using the urban sprawl of the Durand Close Estate, and also wanted a large warehouse to build a super-villain's lair.

The question ois of course, which super villain's lair are they searching for!? We already know that Sebastian Shaw and Azazel will be in the movie, but will this be one of their bases (such as the Hellfire Club) or another character who has not yet been revealed? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!

X-Men: First Class will be released on June 3, 2011!

X-men: First Class – Movie plot, film set photo stills, Villain revealed
Posted by zeibiz on December 17, 2010 at 6:35 pm

X-men: First Class movie premiere is getting closer and closer and yet still keeping details about the film. Transformers 3, Thor, Green Lantern recently released their movie trailers, those are some of the biggest comic adaptation films lined up on theater for 2011, X-men is to complete the list.

Finally our radar collected some info and had something to hold on. The last X-men film rebooted on Wolverine and First Class is another reboot. 20th Century Fox has released the movie plot focuses on the early days of Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr‘s friendship.

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not arch-enemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Pretty cool isn’t it? Here are some photo stills that are believed to be X-men film set. [comicbookmovie.com]

Local X-Men: First Class Actor Confirms The Cuban Missile Crisis!

Coming from an outdated report, a local actor working on FOX's X-Men: First Class gets a bit spoilerific in detailing his new role in the mutated film. Check it Out!

Some days ago, the 13th on Monday to be exact, CLATL received an email from Greg Savage, whose apparently working on Matthew Vaughn's X-Men: First Class as filming progresses on Jekyll Island, in Georgia. In that email, Savage gave an update from the set, also detailing his role in the film.

"Today I had lunch, got fitted for my outfit, and then I found out that the role I’m playing is entirely different than what I auditioned for — it’s even BIGGER. I am the Ship Captain of a 1960’s submarine (during the Cuban missile crisis). I shoot my scene at night on Wednesday evening. It is cold and windy — sand is kicking up all over the place. And, my ship will be taking on lots of water during my scene. I will be shouting to my crew to keep the ship from sinking."

The source, CLATL has removed the report, but of course nothing gets by us fanboys nowadays. Anyhow, filming for X-Men: First Class on Jekyll Island wraps in a few days. And I hear a plane crash was filmed as well, which could explain those set images. Anyhow, the film is set to be released on June 3, 2011. What do you think?

Crews set up; filming begins for X-Men
Posted: Dec 17, 2010 3:49 PM PST Updated: Dec 18, 2010 3:49 PM PST

By Brooke Kelley - bio | email

JEKYLL ISLAND, GA (WTOC) - The set is up, and movie producers are starting to film in several locations around Jekyll Island for the "X-men First Class" movie.

The film is bringing money to the island because crews are staying and eating at many of the local restaurants. Local officials are hoping that once summer hits, tourists will do the same. Eric Garvey, chief communications officer for Jekyll Island Authority, said they are very excited to have crews on the island.

"I understand some areas you won't recognize but some areas you will like, for example, the fishing pier will be recognizable in the film. So we are excited about that. Hopefully, it will drive some visitation here and on in the future,"said Garvey.

Garvey said producers also have several different locations set up throughout Glynn County.

Photos from the Set of X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
by Brendan Bettinger Posted:December 23rd, 2010 at 8:51 pm

Crane technician Joe Cuzan has taken a few photos on the set of X-Men: First Class which give some insight into the size of the production. The images give you a look at the Blackbird (the aircraft of the X-Men seen in previous set photos) in ruins, plus a storyboard that a source more knowledgeable than myself suggested looks like “Riptide involved in some sort of fight scene.”

X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, and January Jones. The film opens on June 3, 2011.

L.A. shoots on even keel
Remains even with the same week last year
By Dave McNary

With "X-Men: First Class" nearing completion of production, off-lot shooting in the Los Angeles has remained even with the same week last year during the week that ended Sunday.

Feature activity edged down 5% compared to the year-ago week with 106 days permitted, according to figures released Tuesday by the FilmL.A. permit coordinating agency.

Matthew Vaughn's "First Class," starring James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, was the most active in features, obtaining permits for nine production days for the period. It's shooting in the Cheviot Hills area this week.

TV activity crept up 1% to 425 days, led by 27 days for GCM Prods.' reality skein "Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution 2."

Commercials posted a 2% decline during the week with 174 days. Lab Film and Content was the most active producer with 18 dates, all but two for a spot for Jeep.

FilmL.A. spokesman Todd Lindgren also said Griffith Park was the most popular site for shooting in 2010 with 341 days, far ahead of 207 days for the Central City Studios downtown warehouse on Terminal Street.

Overall off-lot production in the Los Angeles area increased by 15% last year, thanks largely to unexpected fourth-quarter gains in feature production and TV along with a surge in commercials shooting.
