Jane Eyre 2011 Empty Jane Eyre 2011

Jane Eyre – In April of 2011, Dame Judi Dench and Mia Wasikowska (Alice from Tim Burton’s recent Wonderland reboot) will bring the classic story of Jane Eyre to the big screen. Charlotte Brontë’s novel is still required reading in American schools and the story of a governess and the terrible secret of her boss is as popular today as ever. Though film versions of classic literature are not always huge financial successes, the familiarity of the title and the presence of Dench and co-star Michael Fassbender could put butts in the seats in a big way.

The latest adaptation of Jane Eyre received a PG-13 rating for "some thematic elements including a nude image and brief violent content." Starring Alice in Wonderland's Mia Wasikowska in the title role, the movie opens in limited release on Mar. 11.

2011 Sundance Predictions: Cary Fukunaga's Jane Eyre
Posted by Eric Lavallee on Nov 03, 2010

#20. Jane Eyre - Cary Fukunaga

On March 11th, Focus Features releases Cary Fukunaga's Jane Eyre in theaters. Even if Sundance was home to Cary Fukunaga's breakout debut Sin Nombre, I seriously doubt whether the film the classic will take up a spot. Berlin appears to be a more likely candidate. Starring Michael Fassbender, Mia Wasikowska, Sally Hawkins, Jamie Bell, Imogen Poots and Judi Dench, this one is a slimmer than slim prediction on our part.

Based on Moira Buffini's screenplay adaptation of Charlotte Brontë’s' classic, Jane Eyre (Wasikowska), flees Thornfield House, where she works as a governess for wealthy Edward Rochester (Fassbender). The isolated and imposing residence – and Mr. Rochester’s coldness – have sorely tested the young woman’s resilience, forged years earlier when she was orphaned. As Jane reflects upon her past and recovers her natural curiosity, she will return to Mr. Rochester – and the terrible secret that he is hiding…

- It won't qualify this year, but Focus Features released an intriguing poster for their new adaptation of "Jane Eyre." Starring Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender, Jamie Bell and Judi Dench, the Cary Fukunaga ("Sin Nombre") adaptation of Charlotte Brontë's novel hits theaters March 11, 2011. The poster evokes a modern day book cover, but there is also something eye-catching and intriguing about it. You can check it out embedded in the page below. You can also watch the trailer here. Potential Oscar bait for 2012 or just another drama that isn't up to snuff? Share your thoughts below.

Jane Eyre

- w/Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender and Jamie Bell. Mia (whom you should remember from Alice in Wonderland) as Jane Eyre seems very weird in my head, but I am still looking forward to this new adaption featuring Billy Elliot star Jamie Bell as St John and Michael Fassbender (from Inglorious Basterds) as Mr Rochester. Fassbender will also star as Magneto in the before-mentioned X-Men: First Class movie). Jane Eyre is a classic, but I have yet to see a movie version of it that I like, not even the version with Orson Welles and Joan Fontaine managed to impress me (granted I have not seen the 1996-version with Charlotte Gainsbourg yet).

50 Upcoming Book-to-Movie Adaptations
By Scott Harris | November 23, 2010 |

Books: They’re just like movies, only without CGI.

So it’s no wonder that over the past century, Hollywood has consistently turned to books to provide the basis for some of its best works. “To Kill a Mockingbird,” for instance, was based on a book, while “Gigli” wasn’t. See how that works?

With that in mind, then, we decided to put together a sneak peak of all the coolest books currently being turned into major motion pictures (like “The Help,” left). Because these days, the best library you can go to is your local Cineplex.

‘Jane Eyre’

Status: “Sin Nombre” helmer Cary Fukunaga gets his shot at the big time with the latest adaptation of Charlotte Bronte’s 1847 classic “Jane Eyre,” which, you know, let’s just say it’s been done before. Still, audiences have been lining up for “Jane Eyre” for over 150 years and this time around the cast includes hot stars like Mia Wasikowska, Michael Fassbender and Sally Hawkins, so it’s hard to bet against this film as it tries to introduce the timeless tale to a 21st century audience.

Also in The Independent Imogen Poots discusses her role as Blanche Ingram in Jane Eyre 2011:

"Obviously, in the book she's presented as pretty conniving and is extremely hostile towards Jane," explains Poots. "But I think Cary wanted to give her a fresh image. And the way that we've explored her character is by presenting her as someone quite innocent and generally flabbergasted as to why this man doesn't want to marry her. Also Cary has made it much younger, having Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska as the two leads. And it's much more sinister than any other adaptation." (James Mottram)

We are quite intrigued now actually.
