Teaser Poster For Matthew Vaughn‘s ‘X-Men: First Class’ Unveiled!
Posted on20 January 2011.
The buzz for Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class is definitely ramping up! The past few days have given us a look at the cast of the film and now the first teaser poster for the film is seeing the light of day! Check it out below and weigh in with your thoughts!
The cast of the film includes Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havoc, Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.
Official Plot Synopsis: X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
X-Men First Class is slated to hit theaters nationwide on June 3, 2011.

OMG, can’t wait to see this movie. It’s not because I’m an X-Men fan but OMG, Fassy & James McAvoy in the same movie? That’s like a major thing for me. And January Jones is looking mega hot here.

UPDATE: we have more photos! Check them out after the jump.
If you're a fan of the X-Men franchise like we are, then this should be a treat for you: it's the first cast photo from X-Men: First Class! The star-studded cast is all done up as their mutant alter egos for the upcoming prequel, which hits theaters this June. The film will take us back to meet younger versions of Professor X and Magneto, shedding light on how their friendship deteriorated to what we've seen in the X-Men films. To help keep your mutants straight, I've put together a handy who's who.
Match the actors with their alter egos after the break.
From left to right:
* Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr / Magneto
* Rose Byrne as Dr. Moira MacTaggert
* January Jones as Emma Frost
* Jason Flemyng as Azazel
* Nicholas Hoult as Hank McCoy / Beast
* Lucas Till as Alex Summers / Havok
* Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore
* Jennifer Lawrence as Raven Darkholme / Mystique
* James McAvoy as Charles Xavier / Professor X

NewsGush: First Look At X-Men:First Class
Slashing The Seats had it’s editorial trolls whipped long into the night, but even they couldn’t come up with a witty pun based around January Jones’ bosoms and the phrase ‘you can’t make an omelette without breaking some X’. Instead, you’ll just have to settle for this first peek at her in a ridiculously saucy Emma frost outfit, along with the rest of Matthew Vaughn’s super-groovy 1960’s X-Men.
Although Ms.Jones does a fine job on her own, the line up is filled out by Michael Fassbender as ‘no need for Grecian 2000′ Magneto, Rose Byrne as the frankly crap character Moira MacTaggert, Jason Flemyng as Azazel (nope, we don’t know either), Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Cyclops’ brother Havok, Zoe Kravitz as Angel, Jennifer Lawrence blueing-up as Mystique, and a surprisingly hirsute James McAvoy as Professor X.
Whether or not the slightly off-canon mix of characters will add up to a great movie remains to be seen, but those old-school jumpsuits have got our hopes up for something a little better than The Last Stand.

James McAvoy talks X-men: First Class
Submitted by Matt Keith on January 21, 2011 – 8:40 pm
If there’s one that we’ve reported on most this week, then it would be Matthew Vaughn’s X-men: First Class. We’ve already seen the first teaser poster (here), a few stills (here and here) as well as some disheartening rumors that production isn’t going soo well (here). Now, Cinema Blend got a chance to sit down with Professor X (James McAvoy) himself to chat about the film.
The first thing McAvoy mentions, and this is probably the biggest, is that he’ll be taking a different approach to the character than Patrick Stewart, who many feel was perfect in the role. “Well f*ck it, I’m liberated then,” he said. One major change is the character won’t be going bald despite, which debunk previous details about the film’s trailer (here). This change was enough for him to not worry about the pressure of living up to Stewart’s performance. However, McAvoy does mention that his version of Charles Xavier will become more like Stewart’s by the end of the film. “So by the end of the movie he’s some way towards becoming Patrick Stewart[‘s version of the character], rather than just having the same guy at the beginning,” he said.
Another issue First Class is facing the lack of Wolverine (portrayed by Hugh Jackman) in the film. There was rumor (here) the character would cameo, but McAvoy shoots that down. Although, it would be understandable now that Wolverine has his own franchise kicking-off with Darren Aronofsky (The Wrester, Black Swan) directing the next installment (here). McAvoy also confirms the film is undergoing re-shoots at the moment, and elaborated on what scenes are being tweaked. “We doing a tiny little tweak on the very end, finale thing between me and Michael [Fassbender], who plays Magneto,” he said. McAvoy also mentions that other scenes are being re-shot, and are all “little bits and bobs and things that we dropped or didn’t know we needed or trying to fix a little scene here or there or tighten up a scene here or there,” he said. It does seem like he confirms the rumors about the film not coming together well, but we’ll have to wait until June 3 comes around to really know.

Hey Film Fans… or more specially X-MEN fans!
HAPPY HAPPY JOY JOY! Thanks to Twentieth Century Fox, we have FIVE X-MEN: FIRST CLASS first look images that were released in the U.S. today! WOOT!
Did you know that before Patrick Stewart and Sir Ian McKellen became the revered Marvel stalwarts Professor X and Magneto in the box-office superhero franchise X-Men, they were James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender discovering their powers for the first time in X-MEN: FIRST CLASS?
[ ABOVE: James McAvoy as Professor X ( top) and Michael Fassbender as Magneto]
And the nemesis they have to battle is none other than Kevin Bacon as master villain Sebastian Shaw. Shaw is known as one of the greatest X-Men villains ever since his inception three decades ago.
[Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and January Jones as Emma Frost in one of her sexy white leather outfits]
The highly anticipated addition to the franchise charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, a time before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before best buds Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took on their famous monikers and became arch-enemies.
[Michael Fassbender's Magneto and James McAvoy's Professor X engaged in a game of chess]
A recent unauthorized picture circulating the web ( seen here on PEREZ HILTON’S BLOG ) which featured the entire group of characters (including Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost and Nicholas Hoult as Beast) decked out in costume had director Matthew Vaughn (Kick Ass) all “freaked out”.
“I don’t know where the hell that came from,” Vaughn told several movie websites. “It’s not a pre-approved image… it didn’t reflect the movie “. He explained that the costumes worn by the characters go back to the original costumes from the Marvel comic book. “The costumes are blue and yellow as well, because f**k it, lets take it back it the original. Also, by the way, those costumes are hardly in the movie. The main costumes are like these cool 60’s James Bond…”
Like it? Love it? Think the casting is spot on? Can’t wait to see it? Flick Chick wants to hear all your thoughts on all things X-Men First Class. So leave me a comment!
Till then, always remember to Snap, Crackle and POPcorn!
You know you love me,
XOXO

X-Men: First Class First Photos and Poster
Written by Ivan Radford

Yeah, we all know that banner from the other day was leaked/not leaked/official/unofficial/completely naff, but Fox have responded by going right ahead with the release of the first official photos of X-Men: First Class. They're a lot more reassuring to look at, especially in terms of the period costumes.
Here's a little taster. Hands up if you don't wet yourself.
YOU WILL NEED A NEW PAIR OF PANTS
Read on for the other images and the rather awesome teaser poster that turned up at AICN. Maybe it's Professor X's stylish beige jacket, Kevin Bacon's sideburns or THAT white jumpsuit on January Jones, but things are starting to a lot more like the film I was hoping for...
The official synopsis doesn't add much new, but you can have it for free because I'm nice:
X-Men First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.
Now let's get back to looking at January Jones in that jumpsuit:
There now, isn't that all better? I'm particularly looking forward to the bit where Xavier (James McAvoy) loses that pivotal game of chess to Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and tears his hair out in anger.

New Images from X-Men: First Class
Thursday, January 20, 2011
So, tell me I’m not the only person to breathe a sigh of relief after discovering that X-Men: First Class image we saw was a fake. After that dabacle, Fox has released some new images from the film, as well as the official logo, all of which can be found below. You may notice an “Austin Powers” look to a couple of the images. The film is set in the 1960′s and director Matthew Vaughn fully embraces that with the set and look of the film.
X-Men: First Class explores the relationship between Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Eric Lensher, aka Magneto (Michael Fassbender. Before being rivals, the two mutants were close friends before their idea on the treatment of mutants caused a rift to form between them. Xavier goes on to form the X-Men, while Magento forms a group he calls the Brotherhood. X-Men: First Class also stars Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Jenifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne, Jason Flemyng and Zoe Kravitz, among others. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn (Layer Cake, Kick-Ass) and is set to relase June of this year. Be sure to click the images for a larger version.

Vaughn Apparently Lying About Leaked Cast Photo; Big Problems On Set Of X-Men: First Class?
An exclusive report claims that Matthew Vaughn lied about having no knowledge of that leaked cast picture and the film is a complete and utter mess with him on the other side of the world editing while filming is still taking place...
Earlier today, we heard from director Matthew Vaughn about both his experiences while filming the controversial X-Men: First Class as well as that leaked image of the cast which was met with a huge amount of criticism due to it looking more than a little dodgy. His exact words in fact were, "I don’t think it’s a Fox image. It’s not a pre-approved image. It’s like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn’t reflect the movie." Interesting. Well, according to a report from Latino Review, he was in fact being less than truthful about that, and there are also some serious problems with how the film is coming together. Here are some excerpts from that report.
Apparently, Matthew Vaughn got put on blast this morning for straight up LYING to Slashfilm about that so called leaked FOX picture.
The movie is still shooting in LA while Vaughn is somewhere else editing.
They're shooting at the Culver City Studios for the next couple of weeks. The official story is that they're just shooting pick ups but the reality is...
...that hot mess of a film has not been coming together. Vaughn and company ran from location to location but never got the right stuff, or stuff that worked.
That's what's happening right now - while he's cutting the film somebody else is shooting literally six weeks - almost a whole film - worth of stuff.
Ouch!
Again, expect massive denials saying that they're doing pick ups that they missed because of delays on set and cast availability.
I'm not sure what to think about this. I know that Latino Review are a fairly reliable source in terms of news, but the claims of Matthew Vaughn outright lying about that image don't sit right with me...unless he was trying to save face after the huge amount of people who hated it of course! It is however much more believable that there are some serious issues with the filming of this movie. After all, it's being rushed out for a release this June, and the above info might explain why we've still not seen a trailer. (and why there are seemingly no plans for one at the Superbowl) What do you guys think? Be sure to share your thoughts in the usual place!
X-Men: First Class is set to be released on June 3, later this year!

Anyway, here's the new Magneto in the upcoming "X-Men: First Class" played by Michael Fassbender. That's the coolest looking Mags helmet ever, don't you agree?
Finally, here's James McAvoy as Professor Charles Xavier (with hair) in "X-Men: First Class". What do you think? I think the star of "Atonement" and "Wanted" can nail the role of the Prof. anyday.

X-Men: First Class: Getting Warmer…?

So, we all saw the horrid ‘shop that was the X-Men: First Class cast photo, right? If you’re anything like me, (which, god, why would you want to be like me?) you were mad. Like, MAD. I’m very protective of the X-Men franchise, and am taking the whole thing about as well as the D’Bari did their star’s untimely supernova. (See what I did there?)
Photoshopped image of the cast of X-Men: First Class.
Photoshopped image of the cast of X-Men: First Class. From left: Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Rose Byrne as Moira MacTaggert, January Jones as Emma Frost, Jason Flemyng as Azazel, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Lucas Till as Havoc, Zoe Kravitz as Angel Salvadore, Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique, and James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.
X-Men and X2 were great re-tellings of past X-tales. X-Men: The Last Stand was where it all started to fall apart. (Personally, I blame Superman.) While as a whole I liked The Last Stand, there were parts that really ground my gears, namely, the treatment of the Dark Phoenix storyline. I mean, really? Dark Phoenix kills Scott? And the Professor? Out of anyone, those are the two characters that would keep Jean from going batshit. Grr. I loved Ellen Page as Kitty Pryde, and that Storm finally got to use her powers. I hated that Psylocke was demoted to being a lame evil mutant. Argh. X-Men: Origins: Wolverine continued the tradition of style over substance, and also managed to ironically destroy several characters’ origins in the process. (So wait, Gambit would be in his mid-40s during the X-trilogy? A whole bunch of mutants were part of the first class, including Emma Frost who shouldn’t show up for another 20 years?) GRR. ARGH.
I was fully intent on never seeing another X-film. I was tired of the treatments they received, and the total neglect for the source material. When I heard that the new First Class movie was taking place in the 60s, I was further enraged. Is it a complete reboot, or are they going to use a plot device to send the characters to the future so their ages correspond to the previous films? Well, it turns out that First Class is a prelude to the to the founding of the X-Men, follows several mutants, some brand-new, and as of yet, there’s no mention of Scott, Jean, Storm or Beast. (The X-trilogy’s oldest X-Men.) Kick-Ass director, Matthew Vaughn, who is helming First Class, promises a cool, James Bond-y feel to the movie. Yeah, not feeling it.
Post, Meet Purpose
At least I wasn’t. When the aforementioned terrible-’shop-First-Class-image popped up, Vaughn was apparently so outraged at the fake that he demanded Fox release official images of the cast. They obliged, and we get our first look at the First Class.
“I freaked out on them yesterday. I don’t know where the hell that came from. I don’t think it’s a Fox image. It’s not a pre-approved image. When I found out, I said, what the f&#! is this s$#!, and Fox is running around trying to figure out what happened as well. I agree. It’s like a bad photoshop, which maybe it was by someone. It didn’t reflect the movie. I was shocked when I saw it. I was like ‘Jesus Christ’…- Michael Vaughn to Slashfilm editor, Peter Sciretta
Image of the cast of X-Men: Fist Class. Here is a real image of the cast of X-Men: First Class. I’m really feeling Rose Byrne as Moira. Hopefully her Scottish accent is up to par.
Image of James McAvoy as Charles Xavier.James McAvoy as Charles Xavier. Not bad; maybe a little hobo-ish.
Image of Michael Fassbender as Magneto.Okay, in all seriousness, this is the image that really intrigued me. I love the retro costume, and can really see Fassbender aging into Ian McKellan’s Magneto. It may just be one image, but for me, it’s a faint light at the end of the tunnel.
Image of James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Xavier and Magneto. Here they are, Xavier and Magneto, playing chess. This is obviously before things go sour between them.
Image of Kevin Bacon and January Jones as Sebastian Shaw and Emma Frost.Honestly, I was never sold on January Jones as Emma Frost. I always pictured someone like Marisa Miller playing that part. It wasn’t until I saw this image that I got it. She’s gonna be one ice-cold bitch. (I say that with love.)
Where’s Scarlett Witch When You Need Her?
I’m still bittered by some decisions made by the studio, producers, writers, and Mr. Vaughn himself. Havok being included in the cast doesn’t make sense. Havok, or Alex Summers, is Scott’s younger brother. Why they feel the need to mess up his timeline, I don’t know. But what pisses me off the most is that, for some reason, no one can get Emma Frost’s origin right. In Wolverine, she was a young teen, presumably in the 80s, and now she’s a 30-something in the 60s! Obviously, they are including the Hellfire Club in the movie’s plot, what with Bacon’s Shaw, but the Hellfire Club and Frost, the White Queen, were the main antagonists in the original Dark Phoenix story arc, which, in movie’s universe, won’t happen for another 35 years. Does this mean in an eventual present-day X-film that Emma Frost is going to be an octogenarian? *mind asplode!*
I guess in order to ever enjoy an X-Men adaptation, I’m going to have to forget the comics. That’s hard for me, and honestly, I can’t understand why the source material can’t be followed more closely. Vaughn has said that this movie is a real reboot with nods and winks to the comics and movies, and to not get all tied up in knots about continuity. Yeah, sounds like he cares a lot.
What's Your Skin?
I guess my mutant ability is nitpicking.

X-Men First Class first official pic
After all the hub-a-bub about the images that came out last week, well, I wasn’t that excited about the group pic of the X-Men: First Class group… but then Harry over at AICN found himself the recipient of the official movie teaser poster from Bryan Singer, and now that does look rather nice for our first teaser of X-Men: First Class…

Looks nice.

The cast includes January Jones as Emma Frost, Jennifer Lawrence as Raven, James McAvoy as Professor Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Magneto, Nicholas Hoult as Beast, Rose Byrne as Dr. MacTaggert, Kevin Bacon as Sebastian Shaw and a few faves, like Oliver Platt as Man in Black and Ray Wise as the Secretary of State.
X-Men First Class Movie Poster R
It’s a great looking cast that’s being directed by Matthew Vaughn.
The summary over on IMDb says:
Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time..
X-Men: First Class is due out in theaters June 3rd 2011.
PS: Get better soon Harry!

A Picture is Worth A Thousand Angry Comments
Okay, I'm a fanboy, so I get the need to complain about comic book movies. For the ungeeky out there, it's not unlike the urge to complain about a football team like the Bears (which, I know, I will be hearing a lot of this morning). You complain because you care. But at a certain point, for us fanboys (and fangirls), we cross the line from concerned complaining to reactionary negativity for negativity's sake.
Case in point, we have the image above, which shows the cast of the next X-Men movie, "X-Men: First Class." The image, which shows the new X-Men in yellow and blue costumes (costumes, I might add, which are taken right out of the comic books) and highlights a diverse cast of mutants, including James McAvoy as a young Professor X, Michael Fassbender as a young Magneto, and a host of others including Havok, Beast, Mystique, Moria McTaggert, White Queen, Angel and Azazel.
Comic book fans bashed the image, claiming it to be a sign the movie would suck, even though they hadn't seen the movie, even though they hadn't even seen a trailer and even though the last two X-Men films weren't terribly good either.
To be fair, the image in question is of poor quality - a fact noted by almost every website which ran it last week. FOX tried to have the image removed, but that only added to the interest and furor surrounding the picture. Director Matthew Vaughn later explained the image was not pre-approved by the studio, and released several more official photos (and yes, that is Kevin Bacon!)
Despite the fan outrage, I have to say the movie sounds promising. Set in the 1960's, it follows then-friends Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr as they form the School for the Gifted Youngesters. The film certainly has a more pronounced period feel to it, and is said to feature everything from go-go girls to James Bond-style tech. The film is directed by Matthew Vaughn, who also did "Kick-Ass" and the underrated "Stardust". The writing credits include Vaughn's frequent collaborator Jane Goldman along with several others, including Josh Schwartz ("Chuck"). The film is also being produced by Bryan Singer, who directed the first two X-Men films
The only thing the movie really has going against it - despite the backlash - is the fact that FOX really doesn't know where to take the X-Men franchise. After lackluster third installment, FOX apparently decided there was nowhere left to go but the past. The first stab at this was "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", but the X2 prequel received low marks from critics and fans alike. The response to "Wolverine" was so low that both the spin-off "Deadpool" and the in-development sequel to "Wolverine" probably won't reference their predecessor at all. (X-Men First Class will likely not either, but only because the movies are set twenty years apart). So bottom line: FOX better figure out what to do with this franchise before they clog the continuity with more prequels than a George Lucas fan-fiction.
Overall, fans need to get their heads out of backsides long enough to see this project has the potential to be a "First Class" treatment of the X-Men franchise. As Vaughn himself said, "We're not bastardizing the X-Men, I'm trying to get them back to being whole again." Fans are quick to forget Vaughn almost directed "X-Men 3" and "Thor", and having seen his work on "Kick-Ass" and "Stardust" respectively, that sounds like a perfect combination to me.
Maybe comic book fans should take a note from Bears fan - have some (perhaps unfounded) optimism and don't complain until someone actually drops the ball. This Chicken Little routine is getting old.
(That's my cholesterol-raising rant for today. Check back Wednesday for some more glimpses of Blue Yonder in the Rough, and don't forget to submit to our Blue Yonder Death Knell competition!)

First Look: X-Men First Class Photos

More X-Men First Class Photos
quick takeCheck out the first (quality) photos from the X-Men prequel.
Last week the first "official" image from X-Men: First Class found its way online, much to the dismay of X-Men fans around the world... and director Matthew Vaughn. The reaction was, for the most part, fairly negative, but Vaughn quickly jumped in and tried to defuse the situation by telling /Film that it wasn't "pre-approved" and that he didn't know where it came from (which may or may not have been the case). By way of apology, he offered up a handful of new photos to /Film and the L.A. Times, which are definitely a bit of an improvement.
Among the new pics we have our first look at Kevin Bacon as villain Sebastian Shaw and a better look at January Jones as Emma Frost, plus we are actually getting a feel for the fact that this is supposed to be a period piece set in the '60s. James McAvoy is definitely looking the part as Professor X as well. On the other hand, the image of Michael Fassbender wearing the Magneto helmet has become the subject of some derision as it does seem to be a wee bit oversized. Well, I guess they can't get everything right! On top of this, Latino Review has a report about extensive reshoots that are going on right now. So what do you think, does this restore your confidence in X-Men: First Class, or are you still worried that this will turn out to be yet another mockery of the X-Men characters?

New "X-Men: First Class" Image Unveils Magneto's Spot-On Look
By Jason Serafino | Feb 10, 2011 | 3:20 pm
Entertainment Weekly has revealed a new image from the upcoming film X-Men: First Class in anticipation of the premiere of the movie’s first trailer later today. The image is a simple one, but it has plenty of meaning for comic fans. It's an over-the-shoulder glimpse of Magneto (played by Michael Fassbender), complete with his crimson red helmet and iconic cape. While the rest of the costume isn’t visible, it seems as though this movie may have the most accurate interpretation of Magneto’s comic book suit yet.
X-Men: First Class will be a prequel to the Hugh Jackman-led X-Men movies, exploring how the relationship between Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto soured over time. While the flick, directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) will focus on Xavier and Magneto, there will still be plenty of recognizable mutants to fill out the cast. With characters like Emma Frost (January Jones), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Havok (Lucas Till) and Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence) all present, it looks like X-Men: First Class will overflow with mutant mayhem.
If this new picture of Magneto isn’t enough to get you excited, be sure to check out the X-Men: First Class trailer, set to premiere later today. The trailer will debut on the film's Facebook page and, as always, we here at Complex will get you all the latest X-Men: First Class news as it becomes available.

Hollywoodnews.com: We have an abnormal amount of superhero movie news on the Web site this morning. We’ve had updates on a third “Iron Man,” and fresh opinions on the rebooted Superman. And now we’re prepping for legitimate footage from an upcoming summer blockbuster.
“X-Men: First Class” will release its first official trailer this afternoon on the movie’s Facebook page. Click here and bookmark it.
A specially designed “X-App” apparently will be available for fans to help them share the trailer and unlock stills from the upcoming movie. One of the teaser stills that’s making the rounds today is a shot of Michael Fassbender as Magneto (see it above).
As we get ready for the teaser trailer, we also have a new logo for the film, which we’ve pasted below.
“X-Men: First Class,” directed by Matthew Vaughn (“Kick-Ass”), goes back to the early days of Marvel’s mutant superhero team. Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lensherr (Fassbender) work together to stop a major threat … long before they become archenemies.
The movie will be out on June 3, and as soon as the teaser goes live, we’ll update this entry.
UPDATE: Trailer is here. Amazing. Check it out:

A Close Look At Two X-Men: First Class Character Posters
Submitted by Brendon Connelly on February 28, 2011 – 5:47 pm
Here are two X-Men: First Class character posters, focusing on the film’s leads, James McAvoy as Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Erik Lensherr.
Interesting designs:
* They’re tilted in opposing directions. Like, you know, metaphorically.
* Depending on which poster you position where, the guys are either looking away from each other, backs turned, our turned towards one another, faced-off again, in opposition.
* They’re both looking at us. They’re also faced “up hill”.
* One stands against a backdrop of quiet, bright class, the other, the nightmare of Auschwitz.
* One’s in the sun, the other in the rain.
* One has back-light from the sun, complete with halo and glare, while the other is in the long shadows of a higher sun. This also creates one evenly bright design around a sunlit centre, while the other has been designed to allow a flood of shadow on one side.
* One has his hands in his pockets (more casual, perhaps, or more cerebral?) while the others has his hands out, ready to go, a tenser pose.
* One reflection is in profile, with a lot of emphasis on the X motif in the wheelchair, while the other stares out at us in menacing silhouette.
* The reflections reveal the characters’ more famous, debatably more definitive, adult identities. This goes against convention, as most drama would have the “secret identity” in the reflection be the younger version, a “hidden past.”
* The text captions give clear reminders of the more famous alter egos.
* There’s an overall balance in the colours of the posters, but the distribution is altered to create contrasting impressions of light and dark. This also extends to the costumes.
* Refreshingly, we’re looking at posters for a summer action tentpole that aren’t built around an orange-blue divide.

Two New International 'X-Men: First Class' Posters
Monday, 28 February 2011 14:53 Written by Jordan DeSaulnier
Since the debut of the teaser trailer a few weeks back, interest in Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn's prequel X-Men: First Class has spiked dramatically, in accordance with Fox's ramping up of promotion for the June 3rd release date. Now, a new pair of what appear to be international posters have made their way online, and the give good looks at the Michael Fassbender and James McAvoy as the youthful incarnations of Magneto and Professor Xavier, respectively. Take a good look right here:
XMEN FIRST CLASS
Like the teaser trailer, these images work hard to sell the film as a prequel to the series begun by director Bryan Singer, with the familiar reflections and the "Before he was..." tagline. The images definitely do a good job of getting that point across, and they're also nicely indicative of the philosophical differences between these two primary characters.
XMEN XAVIER
X-Men: First Class will weave the mutants into history, involving Professor X and his team of superpowered misfits in the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962. In addition to McAvoy and Fassbender, the film has a stacked cast, including Kevin Bacon, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Rose Byrne, Zoe Kravitz, Lucas Till, and Jason Flemyng. It will, however, be the first entry into the X-franchise without Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Do you think that X-Men: First Class can carry on the franchise without its signature star? And do these posters do the trick of getting you psyched for the latest mutant-fest, or have you already passed judgment on the film?

Xavier and Magneto Character Posters From ‘X-Men: First Class’
Posted on Monday, February 28th, 2011 by Germain Lussier
After some initial worry over the first leaked image from X-Men: First Class, 20th Century Fox has done a masterful job of crisis management. Director Matthew Vaughn called Peter at his home to discuss the film and help us premiere some exclusive images and the first trailer got mostly rave reviews. Now, the first two pieces of print media have leaked thanks to a French website called Filmosphere and they look pretty bad ass. Check out the character posters for Erik, aka Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender and Charles, aka Professor X, played by James McAvoy, after the jump.
Thanks to Filmosphere for these images (with a nod to Cinemablend). There’s no confirmation if these are domestic or international posters but they are most certainly real.
Magneto XMen First Class
Xavier XMen First Class
So far I think the Fox Marketing team is killing it with X-Men: First Class. As I said above, I loved the trailer and with these two posters you get a serene sense of the time period, plus the duality of each character with a hint toward his future, all in a single image. It’ll be interesting to see if they continue with this exactly strategy for all of the other characters, using their human looks as opposed to their mutant looks. From the trailer, it seems like everything sort of hinges on Erik and Charles, and their transformations into the characters we know: Professor X and Magneto. Plus, those two characters have very iconic silhouettes. I’m not sure how a Jennifer Lawrence/Mystique poster is going to play to someone who doesn’t know about the X-Men. (Unless she’s dressed like she was at the Oscars. Wow.)
Do you agree with me about these posters? Or do you think Fox needs to concentrate less on characters and more on the action?

New International Character Posters for ‘X-Men: First Class’
Published on February 28, 2011 by Nick Newman
After the trailer, which received an overall positive response from audiences, the marketing for X-Men: First Class is kicking off, if not a little late. Regardless, the movie is still coming out on June 3rd (in spite of a hectic shooting schedule), so 20th Century Fox would be wise to push this as much as they can, which is what they finally seem to be getting around to.
The latest line in the marketing department has arrived to us today, with two new international character posters. Found over at TheDailyBlam, they each show off the film’s leads, the first featuring Charles/Professor X (James McAvoy), and the second having Erik/Magneto ( Michael Fassbender).
The thing I like the most about these posters is the effective marketing on display; this series has become so steeped in the modern popular culture that a simple reflection in water tells you all you need to know. And even if the Magneto one doesn’t strike your memory, the companion Xavier piece should allow your brain to put everything together. The only question that I’ve got right now is if the movie can actually deliver. Take a look at them below:
Plot: X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.
What do you think of these posters? Are you excited for X-Men: First Class?

X-Men: First Class Posters are Here!
Newsarama reports that Fox has just released character posters for their upcoming comic book film, X-Men: First Class. The posters star James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr, respectively. Check out the pics below.
X-Men: First Class to me is a weird and curious sort of animal. It references what came before (like using Ian McKellen's Magneto in Erik's reflection), but goes and changes everything that could connect them both, ultimately distancing the original films and this new movie from each other.
Wait a minute...that sounds just like comic books today! I guess it's more inspired than I thought.
That said, I LOVE the Xavier poster. A shot of what supposedly is the X-Mansion in the background, a clean-cut young Xavier and the mutant leader he was destined to be reflected on the pool makes for a very interesting image.
Though my copywriter sense is tingling with their taglines.
So, what do you think of the posters? Are you excited yet? Or do you need something meatier?

Poster of the Week: X-Men: First Class featuring Magneto & Xavier
February 28, 2011 by rtm
Now that Oscar is over and done with (well with some tittle tattle left over it seems), I for one am looking forward to upcoming movies! I better finish my list of anticipated list soon as March is here already, man where did the time go??
Anyhow, if you’ve been reading my blog regularly, you’d know X-Men: First Class would be at the top of my anticipated list. And since in my fantasy world I sort of ‘own’ the movie, it is my duty to promote this movie, right? It certainly is hard to keep my excitement in check for this one and these two brand-spankin’ new international character posters certainly ain’t doin’ the trick.
The trailer has been focusing on the origin story of the two main X-Men characters, making sure people are aware that these are a prequel to the Bryan Singer’s series, NOT a reboot. Obviously with Singer being the exec-producer and all, I’m sure Matthew Vaughn intends to tie this one to the first two X-Men films, which were well, first class before Brett Ratner came into the picture! Well, that marketing focus has now carried over to the posters. I’m guessing these are the first of more character posters to come.
I like the contrast between the night and day of the setting, emphasizing the dark vs. light struggle between these former best friends. The reflection on the water is kind of a nice touch, but mainly it’s just awesome to see James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender portraying them!
Anyway, if you haven’t already, check out the trailer and additional photos released earlier this year.
What do you think of these posters, folks? Do you generally like character posters, if so, what were your favorites from past movies?

Two International Posters for X-Men: First Class

Two new international posters for the upcoming X-Men: First Class movie focusing once again on Charles Xavier and Magneto.

Up until yesterday, I didn’t know that the guy who will be playing Erik, Michael Fassbender was in two bad ass movies… Zack Snyder’s 300 as Stelios (Then we shall fight in the shade) and Quintin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds.
Now I have a newfound respect for the guy. James McAvoy, on the other hand, I dig especially his turn in the movie adaptation of Mark Millar’s Wanted opposite Angelina Jolie.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, the film stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, Jones, Kevin Bacon, Nicholas Hoult, Jennifer Lawrence, Caleb Landry Jones, Lucas Till, Edi Gathegi, Jason Flemyng, Oliver Platt, Morgan Lily, Zoe Kravitz, Bill Bilner. X-Men: First Class opens in theaters on June 3rd, 2011.

New X Men First Class Teaser Posters have arrived with James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender!
Just like Star Wars, and other “prequel” posters these feature the new “pre” characters with shadows of their “older” counterparts. Still I like the classic look and especially with James McAvoy professor X version. Both create a very cool counterpart to each other. So far, not too shabby! I’m getting more excited about this but I’m still not sold. I thought there was a lot of life left in the original series, and it ended so abruptly with the “Let’s just kill Cyclops for no reason.” So, I’m going to have to get warmed up to this, so far though, not too bad!
Check out Magneto’s poster, i.e. Michael Fassbender’s poster after the jump!

New X-Men: First Class Posters
by Liam on February 28, 2011
james mcavoy michael fassbender x men first class The Flickr account for French website Filmosphere has posted two new posters for X-Men: First Class. The posters feature Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto ( Michael Fassbender) with Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen’s portrays reflected in water, and the same ‘Before he was…’ titles we saw at the beginning of the first teaser trailer.
I’m not sure how official these are as they weren’t released by any of the usual sites such as Yahoo!, however they could just be international posters. They look pretty cool regardless.
Matthew Vaughn’s movie, set for release on June 3rd, will focus on Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) as they work together with other mutants to stop the Hellfire Club, an international social club for wealthy elites who seek to influence world events to their own agenda. Kevin Bacon will play the leader, Sebastian Shaw, along with January Jones as Emma Frost.
The movie also features Dr. Moira MacTaggert (Rose Byrne), Azazel (Jason Flemyng), Beast (Nicholas Hoult), Havok (Lucas Till), Angel Salvadore (Zoë Kravitz), Mystique (Jennifer Lawrence), Banshee (Caleb Landry Jones) and Darwin (Edi Gathegi).
