It seems that one of this summer's popular basterds is taking on another project. According to Variety, Inglourious Basterds star Michael Fassbender will star in A Single Shot.
Fassbender joins the star-powered cast of Forest Whitaker, William H. Macy and Thomas Haden Church, for director David Jacobson. Fassbender will portray a poacher who is on the lam from a group of brutal killers.
The film is said to start production in Ontario this coming January. Fassbender starred as Lt. Archie Hicox in Inglourious Basterds this summer and also stars in the heralded indie film Fish Tank.

LONDON -- Rising star Michael Fassbender has boarded helmer David Jacobson's thriller "A Single Shot" opposite Forest Whitaker, William H. Macy and Thomas Haden Church.
Pic is set to start lensing in Ontario in January next year.
Hanway Films is selling international rights, with CAA co-repping the project's North American distribution rights.
CAA and WME are arranging financing for the project, in which Fassbender plays a poacher who finds himself on the run from a gang of hardened killers.
Chris Coen is producing for London-based shingle Unanimous Pictures alongside Brad Arseneau. Kevin Hicks is exec producing for Northern United Film and Media, which is financing the pic.
Hanway's slate includes helmer David Cronenberg's "The Talking Cure," Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Liv Tyler starrer "The Super" and Jon Amiel's Charles Darwin biopic "Creation."
Fassbender, whose bravura turns in Quentin Tarantino's "Inglorious Basterds" and Andrea Arnold's "Fish Tank" are generating awards season buzz, is repped by Michael Cooper at WME and Conor McCaughan at Troika.

Hot off his star turn in Inglourious Basterds, rising UK star Michael Fassbender has joined Forest Whitaker, William H Macy and Thomas Hayden Church on the thriller A Single Shot.
Director David Jacobson (Down In The Valley, Dahmer) will start filming in Ontario on January 11, 2010, on the story of a poacher whose family is threatened by gangsters after he discover a case of blood money.
HanWay Films is handling international sales here at AFM and co-represents North American rights with CAA, which arranged financing on the project with WME.
Writer Matthew F Jones adapted the screenplay from his novel of the same name. Chris Coen is producing for London-based Unanimous Pictures and formerly produced Deepwater from a Matthew F Jones book, as well as Wristcutters: A Love Story and Michael Haneke’s English-language remake of Funny Games.
Brad Arseneau is also producing and Kevin Hicks will serve as executive producer for Northern United Film and Media, who are financing A Single Shot.
“David Jacobson is a great talent and he has worked hard to secure such a formidable cast to this stylish thriller,” Coen said. “Michael Fassbender will surely deliver something special in this extraordinary role and I could not have dreamt of a more perfect cast to support him.”
HanWay’s current slate includes David Cronenberg’s The Talking Cure; Superstarring Rainn Wilson, Ellen Page and Liv Tyler from producer Ted Hope; Jon Amiel’s Creation; Sam Taylor Wood’s Nowhere Boy; and Lone Sherfig’s An Education starring Carey Mulligan and Peter Sarsgaard.

Finally, we've got our Jane Eyre. Mia Wasikowska (Alice in Wonderland) has signed, after circling the production last November with Michael Fassbender. As for the Fish Tank star, there hasn't been official word following last year's announcement, but he seems to be signed on, which probably means a no-go for Wuthering Heights and Andrea Arnold. But it does allow him to get his May-December groove on again, moving from a young character named Mia who falls for him in Fish Tank, to all-out romance with the next youngin' Mia in Jane Eyre.

Fleming’s last announcement deals with Cary Fukunaga’s upcoming Jane Eyre adaptation. Mia Wasikowska — who will be seen alongside Johnny Depp in Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland — has signed on to star as the title character, with the brilliant Michael Fassbender (Hunger, Inglourious Basterds, Fish Tank) to co-star as Rochester. I don’t know much about Wasikowska’s work so far, but she did star alongside Hal Holbrook in a film I’m dying to see called That Evening Sun. She’s worked with some great actors so far, including Daniel Craig in Defiance, and Fassbender is another step in the right direction.

Film
Cary Fukunaga ("Sin Nombre") is directing for BBC Films and Focus Features.
Mia Wasikowska and Michael Fassbender are at the center of the Gothic tale, which follows young governess Jane Eyre (Wasikowska), who falls in love with her employer, Edward Rochester (Fassbender), but discovers he harbors a dark secret.
