Fassbender is in talks to join 'Trance'
By Rachel Abrams, Justin Kroll

Michael Fassbender is in talks to join "Trance," which Danny Boyle is set to direct.

The edgy thriller concerns an art heist gone wrong. Pic, which will feature a similar budget to "Slumdog Millionaire" and "127 Hours," is expected to hit theaters in March 2013.

Boyle and "Slumdog" producing partner Christian Colson are in distrib discussions with Fox Searchlight and Pathe.

Pic is slated to lens this September in London, though Boyle plans to take a break after shooting to focus on directing the opening ceremonies of the 2012 Summer Olympics in the same location.

Fassbender is repped by CAA and Troika.

Michael Fassbender May Star In Danny Boyle's Trance

Comment published: 2011-05-06 21:26:28 Author: Eric Eisenberg

Michael Fassbender is truly taking over. Before the year is out he will two historical dramas (Jane Eyre, A Dangerous Method), a small independent (Shame), a Steven Soderbergh action/thriller (Haywire) and a blockbuster superhero movie (X-Men: First Class) under his belt. And did I mention that he's currently filming the science fiction epic Prometheus with Ridley Scott? The actor is completely dominating right now, and he's close to adding yet another high profile project to his resume.

Variety reports that Michael Fassbender is now in talks to star in Trance, the newest project from director Danny Boyle. First announced earlier this week, the film is a thriller about "an art heist gone wrong." Boyle plans to go into production with the film in September, but won't edit the film until he has completed his work on the 2012 Olympic games (he is directing the opening ceremonies). The film is expected to be released in March 2013.

Boyle has been on an absolute tear as of late, with Sunshine, Slumdog Millionaire and 127 Hours all coming out in the last four years, and working with a talent like Michael Fassbender can only yield positive results. It's just a shame that we'll have to wait another two years to see it.

Well that was quick. Only two days after Academy Award winning director Danny Boyle's new project was first announced, we now have the first casting news for it, and it's a damn good start. THR & Variety are reporting that Michael Fassbender is in talks to join the cast of the project now officially called Trance, an edgy art heist thriller that's actually a remake of a 2001 British made-for-TV film called Trance. This is the new project from Danny Boyle (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, 127 Hours) that he'll shoot later this year, then finish editing after he works on the 2012 Olympics during most of next year.

As was revealed earlier this week, the film is an "art heist gone wrong" thriller, and Fassbender would play a shady leader of a gang who partners with an assistant at an auction house to pull the heist. The assistant is the mastermind behind it and teams up with Fassbender's gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. He's the only one who knows where the painting's location is. Eventually they suspect something is up when he can't remember and they hire a female hypnotist to get into his brain. Sounds kind of like Inception, but with a Danny Boyle twist I'm sure. Boyle will shoot it this year, but it's not scheduled to be released until spring 2013. We won't get to see this for a long time, but casting continues.

Fassbender is already starring as Magneto in X-Men: First Class this summer as well as Steven Soderbergh's Haywire, David Cronenberg's A Dangerous Method, Steve McQueen's Shame and Ridley Scott's sci-fi Prometheus. This is just another fantastic role for Fassbender to take on, let's hope it comes through. Can't wait to see who else Boyle casts in his Trance (had to do it!) as it sounds like this might be a chance for him to finally round up a superb ensemble of talented folks for another Boyle classic-in-the-making. Stay tuned!

Fassbender in Talks for Danny Boyle’s Next Film

Published by Jeff Leins on May 9, 2011

Michael FassbenderRising star Michael Fassbender, who is playing Magneto in this summer’s X-Men: First Class, is in discussions to lead the next film from Oscar-winning director Danny Boyle.

If a deal is made, the 34-year-old actor will star in Trance, a remake of a made-for-TV British movie directed by Joe Ahearne about a gang of thieves who conspire with an auction house employee to steal art. But when the assistant suffers a blow to the head and can’t remember anything, the gang leader (Fassbender) hires a female hypnotist to extract the information of a rare painting.

The Hollywood Reporter calls the film an “edgy thriller” in the same vein as Boyle’s Trainspotting. If everything goes as planned, Boyle will shoot the film this fall before working on the opening ceremony for the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London. Trance would be finished after the Olympics.

Fassbender, or “Fassy” as the ladies love to call him, is a perfect choice to work with Boyle. He brings a certain intensity that is present in most of Boyle’s ouvre, but I felt was sorely lacking in 127 Hours where that sort of ferocity would have made sense. Plus, Fassbender is equally capable of playing crafty with the kind of charisma to lead a group of art thieves, while still being able to erupt in frustration when the plan starts to fall apart.

FASSBENDER FOR DANNY BOYLE'S TRANCE
By Leon on 5/09/2011 04:33:00 PM News

Michael Fassbender has come a long way from being the man who swam across the sea in the Guinness ad. After roles in films like 300, he has come into his own in films like Hunger and Inglourious Basterds. In a few weeks we'll see him in his first blockbuster starring role as Magneto in X-Men First Class. Now, Variety report he's in talks to star in Trance, the new Danny Boyle movie.

We won't see it until 2013 but Boyle plans to shoot it before the Olympic opening ceremony, and it's looking likely that Fassbender will join him. He's a great choice - he's certainly shown a lot of range and after X-Men, is bound to become a massive star. We'll see him in Prometheus, the new Ridley Scott Alien-esque movie too, in 2012. Onwards and upwards!

Lets just forget about Jonah Hex, will we.

Fassbender Falls for Boyle's "Trance"
It's a beautiful thing that Michael Fassbender is so hotly in demand these days. He's got a promising big budget future with roles in "X-Men: First Class" and "Prometheus," but he'll flex his acting muscles in a more grounded way with the upcoming "Trances," Danny Boyle's next feature about an art heist gone horribly wrong. Fassbender would play the gang leader in charge of the heist, reports THR.

James McAvoy Circling Different ‘Trance’ Role Than Michael Fassbender
Published on June 24, 2011 by Jordan Raup

Yesterday we reported from Variety that James McAvoy was in “early talks” to star in Danny Boyle‘s 127 Hours follow-up, Trance. We’ve just received word straight from Fox Searchlight that he is confirmed to be in talks, but in a different role than his X-Men: First Class co-star Michael Fassbender was previously circling. As for Fassbender’s involvement, they provided no comment. Could a reunion still be in the works after they carried Fox’s recent blockbuster? We don’t have enough to go on, but stay tuned and read our original story below.

Danny Boyle is set to remake Joe Ahearne‘s 2001 British thriller Trance. The modestly budgeted art heist film is being described in the “dark, sexy, hard-edged tone of Boyle films like Shallow Grave and Trainspotting” and we now have an actor in talks to the role, after Michael Fassbender was rumored.

His X-Men: First Class co-star James McAvoy has entered early talks to play the a role, but not the one of Simon. Fassbender was circling that role of “the shady leader of the gang who partners with the assistant.” Check out a synopsis below.

An assistant at an auction house masterminds the heist and teams up with a gang of thieves, but suffers a blow to the head and wakes up with amnesia. He is the only one who knows where the painting’s location is and after his continued failure to remember, the gang begins to suspect duplicity on his part and hire a female hypnotist to get into his brain.

Boyle, and his producing partner Christian Colson, plan a different kind of production schedule. He will have a London shoot this fall, then take a break to direct the opening 2012 Summer Olympics ceremony. He will then return to the film and edit it for a March 2013 release via Fox Searchlight. Many films are on such a tight production schedule, it will be interesting to see what this extended break can help in the formation of the film.

Do you think there could be a X-Men: First Class reunion, after they carried that film for Fox?

James McAvoy to go into Danny Boyle’s Trance?

He could replace Michael Fassbender

By Josh Winning | Jun 24th 2011

james mcavoy

James McAvoy could be replacing his X-Men: First Class co-star Michael Fassbender in Danny Boyle’s next movie Trance.

A remake of the 2003 TV movie, which was directed by Joe Ahearne, Trance follows an art heist that goes wrong.

How so? Well, the heist’s leader receives a blow to the head during one operation, and begins to suffer from amnesia – meaning the location of a painting they’ve nicked is a mystery.

Fassbender was originally in talks to star in the film, but now McAvoy has entered into negotiations, perhaps thanks to the former’s busy schedule.

Boyle will start filming Trance in September before directing the opening ceremony at the 2012 Olympics. When that's finished, he'll head back to finish up work on Trance for a 2013 release.

Danny Boyle May Put James McAvoy in a ‘Trance’ Instead of Michael Fassbender
Casting Couch By Nathan Adams on June 23, 2011

In a move closely related to a similar one I made while trading X-Men cards with the kid down the street when I was twelve, Danny Boyle is trading a Magneto for a Professor Xavier. Variety is reporting that Boyle’s upcoming dark thriller Trance, which is an interesting sounding art heist movie, is close to signing a leading man. Originally it was thought that Michael Fassbender was the leading candidate to step into the starring role of Simon, but at some point he must have dropped out of the project. Not a lot is known about the plot of this film, but I think it’s safe to assume that Simon is probably the best in the world at stealing art, and most likely something goes wrong during the particular heist that this film details. Dang, that would have been a sweet role to see Fassbender play.

But not all is lost, Boyle must be a fan of X-Men: First Class, because he seems to have had a pretty quick backup plan to losing Fassbender, and it’s going after Fassbender’s co-star from that Mathew Vaughn directed super hero joint, James McAvoy. I’ve got something of a Fassbender crush going on right now, so there aren’t that many actors who could have jumped into this role instead of him and kept my excitement level up, but McAvoy is one of them. Hopefully negotiations are swift and positive. If we get word soon that Boyle is looking at Kevin Bacon to play some sort of corrupt police officer, then we’ll know he’s really a fanboy.

X-Men's James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender May Reunite in 'Trance'

Can't get enough of that Professor X / Magneto chemistry? You might be in luck.

'X-Men: First Class' stars James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender are both reportedly in talks to star in Danny Boyle's heist film, 'Trance.'

Fassbender was first mentioned for a role in the movie, and then it looked like McAvoy was going to replace him. Now, according to We Got This Covered, the actors are actually up for different roles.

This is the film, you may recall, that Boyle will begin before directing the 2012 Olympic Games; he'll come back to it once the games are over.

Fassbender is currently filming 'Prometheus' for Ridley Scott. He'll next be seen as Carl Jung in 'A Dangerous Method,' in November and in Steven Soderbergh's 'Haywire' in January.

McAvoy's next projects: the ambitious 'Cloud Atlas' and 'Welcome to the Punch,' with Mark Strong.

Trance Loses Michael Fassbender, Eyes Colin Firth

Colin Firth is a front runner to star in Trance
Director Danny Boyle is firming up the cast for his latest project, Trance. We reported a few weeks ago that James McAvoy joined the cast, presumably replacing Michael Fassbender. New information indicates that Michael Fassbender is indeed out of Trance, although he may be replaced by Colin Firth.

It seems Michael Fassbender had a different role than previously thought, and Colin Firth is considered a front runner to replace him as Aiden. Scarlett Johansson is the top contender to portray Elizabeth in Trance as well. The roles haven't been officially offered to Colin Firth or Scarlett Johansson yet. James McAvoy is locked into the project, portraying Simon.

Danny Boyle will direct Trance from his own screenplay. The story centers on an art heist that goes terribly awry. Production will begin after Danny Boyle directs the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympics in London.

Trance comes to theaters February 2013 and stars James McAvoy. The film is directed by Danny Boyle.

Danny Boyle Wants Colin Firth and Scarlett Johansson For 'Trance'

By Michael Arbeiter , Hollywood.com Staff | Tuesday, July 05, 2011

It looks as though Michael Fassbender is out of Trance, director Danny Boyle's upcoming heist drama. To those looking forward to the project, this news is truly the worst. Really, who could replace Fassbender? What actor today has the talent, versatility, star power, charisma—oh, what? They’re going for Colin Firth? Actually, that’ll be good.

What’s more, Boyle is shooting for Scarlett Johansson as the female lead in the film. Johansson tops a list of desired actresses that includes Zoe Saldana and Melanie Thierry. Also signed on to the film is James McAvoy.

Boyle wants Firth to play the leader of a group of thieves who are putting together a heist on an art auction house. The plot revolves around the memory loss (yep. Amnesia movie. Get pumped.) of an auction house employee -- the only person who knows the location of the painting to be heisted. Well, he used to know it. Before the amnesia. Pumped yet?

Whoever wins the leading lady’s role will portray a hypnotist hired to recover the memory of the auction house employee so that the thievery can commence undisturbed. If you're not pumped yet, you're made of stone.
