WonderCon: Prometheus Lands
Ridley Scott and his stars show off their sci-fi epic.
March 17, 2012
by Jim Vejvoda
Fans at Saturday's WonderCon were treated to a very special look at Fox's hotly anticipated sci-fi epic Prometheus, complete with appearances by director Ridley Scott and stars Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender. The film's screenwriter Damon Lindelof moderated the panel.
Scott returns to the genre he helped redefine with his classics Blade Runner and Alien, the latter of which has long been rumored to be connected to Prometheus. While the director has publicly said that the only connection between his two films is Guy Pearce appearing as Peter Weyland, eagle-eyed fans keep spotting everything from the Space Jockey to similar-looking space ships in every new trailer or clip.
That is just one of the many mysteries about the film, which sees a team of scientists and explorers who become stranded on a strange and dangerous world. There they will discover answers to some of the great mysteries and questions of life.
Prometheus Trailer #1
The film's new trailer was debuted at the Con to the howls of delight from the audience packed into the Anaheim Convention Center ballroom. Outside of the requisite scary stuff and people running and screaming, more of the movie's plot was revealed.
Fascinated by the fact that same pictograph has appeared in ancient civilizations and the discovery of an ancient map in a wall cave, the team determines that the map is actually an invitation -- but from whom? And how does it tie back to Earth? So begins fateful the journey of the crew of the Prometheus.

Director Ridley Scott and Noomi Rapace on the Prometheus set.
Scott said he'd been eager to return to science fiction and that the description that Prometheus has the "DNA of Alien" in it is an apt one. Beyond that, no spoilerish revelations were made. Fassbender and Lindelof were open about the fact that he plays an android named David and that it's not a secret but rather revealed quite early on in the movie.
Fassbender added that swimmer Greg Louganis, of all people, was an inspiration for David's gait and posture. He also confirmed that robots pee, but they do it just so humans don't feel so awkward around them.
Prometheus opens June 8.

WonderCon 2012 – Prometheus Panel

We're live at the Prometheus movie panel during WonderCon 2012
WonderCon 2012-Prometheus Panel
It first needs to be said that Damon Lindelof needs to be involved in everything. He just makes everything better. If you want your project to succeed (or have someone to blame if it doesn’t as he stated) have him play some part in it! The Prometheus panel featured Lindelof moderating (he is also a writer on the film) with very special guests Sir Ridley Scott, Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender. When asked what Prometheus’ relationship to Alien is Scott described it as “…having the DNA of Alien” and that a sequel is a possibility. After being given 3D glasses we were treated to what was supposed to be the very first viewing of the official 2 ½ minute Prometheus trailer, however the trailer had been leaked 12 hours earlier. It didn’t matter though, the trailer is intense and in 3D it’s beyond insane. After viewing the trailer Charlize Theron and Michael Fassbender came on stage. Fassbender, whose character David is a robot, described him as “…a butler type…” and based his movements on “Greg Louganus”, I really don’t know what to make of this but he does sound interesting to say the least! Damon asked him “do robots piss?” to which Fassbender replied “only to make humans feel more comfortable.” As an added bonus those in attendance were given an awesome Prometheus poster (see below). Scott’s return to sci-fi and the next installment of the Alien saga looks to go beyond expectations and with a release date of 6-8-2012 the wait is almost over.
