Steve McQueen Makes Michael Fassbender Feel Sex 'Shame'

"X-Men: First Class" star Michael Fassbender will re-team with his award-winning "Hunger" director Steve McQueen for the provocative drama "Shame," the actor's representation at CAA has confirmed to TheWrap.

Fassbender will play a thirty-something New Yorker who has difficulty managing his sex life.

The script, co-written by McQueen and Abi Morgan, examines the nature of need, and how people live their lives and react to the experiences that shape them.

Film4 will co-finance the movie, and HanWay Films will be selling the project at the Toronto Film Festival. Production is expected to begin in January after Fassbender finishes filming Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men" prequel, in which he plays Magneto.

Iain Canning is producing "Shame," having developed the project through his Sydney-based company See-Saw Films, which had "The King's Speech" debut to rave reviews at the Telluride Film Festival over the weekend.

Canning previously worked with McQueen as the exec producer of "Hunger," which starred Fassbender as Irish Republican loyalist Bobby Sands in hunger strike mode. The film won the Camera d'Or at Cannes in 2008, and the Gucci Prize at Venice.

Fassbender has been working non-stop since his impressive turns in both Quentin Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds" and Andrea Arnold's "Fish Tank" last year. Earlier this summer, he starred in "Jonah Hex," and he can currently be seen in Neil Marshall's "Centurion." He recently wrapped roles in Cary Fukunaga's "Jane Eyre," David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method" and Steven Soderbergh's "Haywire."

"X-Men's'" shooting schedule recently forced Fassbender to drop out of Tomas Alfredson's adaptation of John le Carre's novel "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy." He has since been replaced by "Inception" actor Tom Hardy.

McQueen is represented by Casarotto Ramsay and Associates, while Fassbender is represented by CAA and Troika overseas.

The news of Fassbender and McQueen's reunion was first reported by Variety.
