‘A Dangerous Method’ & ‘Carnage’ Get Dates, ‘My Mother’s Curse’ Moves From Spring To Fall 2012

It’s that time again. Breakout the red pen and/or White-Out because a few more dates are gonna crowd your calendar.

This fall festival season’s biggest journeyman will likely be David Cronenberg‘s “A Dangerous Method.” With dates in Venice, Toronto and New York, the Canadian helmer is going to be racking up some serious frequent flier miles but the multiple festival presence means a couple of things: first, Sony Pictures Classics believe they have a big contender on their hands and second, given the subject matter, they want a few opportunities to turn audiences on (so to speak) to the slightly twisted tale. Based on Christopher Hampton‘s acclaimed 2002 play “The Talking Cure” and starring Michael Fassbender, Keira Knightley and Viggo Mortensen, the film will center on the relationship between Carl Jung (Fassbender) and Russian-Jewish patient Sabina Spielrein (Knightley) that turns sexual, ultimately causing a rift between Jung and his mentor Sigmund Freud (Mortensen), but also catalyzes strong findings in regards to Jungian psychoanalysis. So yes, it’s a little bit brainy, a little bit sexy and it should be some compelling stuff.

The film will now land on November 23rd in limited release, giving arthouse fans (at least in New York and L.A.) a Sophie’s choice that weekend between ‘Dangerous,’ “The Artist” or “The Descendants.” Either that or they’ll have to give up any plans of spending time with family on that Thanksgiving weekend.
