He may not
shy away from unflattering big-screen roles, but off duty, Michael Fassbender isn’t one to look unappealing. As Edwin Epps, his character in the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave, Fassbender let his shaggy red beard match his uncontrolled fury. In real life, however, the German-born, Ireland-bred actor’s civilian look is tamer and closer to the more-modern men he plays. But even this world-class performer could use some tips on sharpening his look.
1. Most guys in their 30s experience thinning at the front of their hairline that shows in peaks at the forehead. Fassbender’s close-cropped cut is a flattering option to deal with the inevitable thinning. We might suggest he crop it a little shorter at the sides so it doesn’t puff out and compete with the top length. Or, add a little styling product, like the AXE Matte Effect Ultra Strong Structuring Fiber, to bulk up strands while also keeping them controlled.
2. For a guy in his late 30s, Fassbender’s skin is in great shape. The deep furrows on his forehead and between his eyebrows reveals his habit of narrowing his eyes when he concentrates. Since sun exposure can make things worse, he should opt for a hydrator with SPF, like No7 Men Protect & Perfect Intense Moisturizer SPF 15. It has hyaluronic sodium and retinyl palmitate to plump skin.
3. His expression in this shot and the fine lines around his eyes suggest he squints often. Maybe it’s the bright lights at the many premieres he attends. Repeated motions, such as raising your eyebrows or squinting, eventually leave behind lines as collagen breaks down. For his eyes, Fassbender might invest in a pair of Oliver Peoples timeless Beckett sunglasses to match his classic looks. And then a dab of Fresh’s Black Tea Age Delay Eye Concentrate.
4. The neck can be a sensitive area prone to ingrown hairs, razor burn, and acne. Fassbender’s neck, which is showing signs of irritation, could use a swipe of Jack Black Clear Complexion Razor Bump & Acne Treatment. The mild salicylic and lactic acids in the solution clear away the dead skin cells and dissolve oil while chamomile and aloe calm down inflamed skin.
5. We love a small amount of scruff on a guy—it gives Fassbender’s well-dressed look a modern edge. The best way to keep it clean is to use a precise tool, like the Philips Norelco Laser Trimmer. The laser light projects a trimming line on your face so you can pre-align the trimmer and take the guesswork out of trimming your cheeks evenly.
