Earth. The beginnings of our world. In an opening montage, we watch as our primordial planet is terraformed and bioformed by seemingly all-powerful, Godlike alien entities…the ENGINEERS. The seeds of life are introduced to Earth for the first time by these fantastic extra-terrestrials, who have the power to create and manipulate both mechanical and biological matter at will. The montage ends as the earliest genetic recipe for life is sent forth from the Engineers’ massive, towering CITADEL in the dark desert.

The desolate desert of Africa: 2085. The prehistoric ruins of the Engineers’ Citadel is discovered by a corporate construction team tasked with building a nuclear-powered comm-array in the wilderness. Amidst the ancient remains are found highly advanced, biomechanical relics with are determined to be of extra-terrestrial origin. This catches the attention of the mega-conglomerate WEYLAND-YUTANI CORPOTATION, who finances a massive archaeological excavation of the citadel in the hopes of reverse-engineering the alien biotech for financial gain. Running the operation is MEREDITH VICKERS, a cold, calculating corporate executive, who recruits intelligent and independent astrophysicist DR. ELIZABETH SHAW to head up the research team. Assisting Dr. Shaw are xenoarchaeologist DR. THEO ZEDMORE and her fellow astrophysicist DR. LOGAN. Shaw uncovers the secret of the citadel when she discovers a chamber of star charts, which seem to lead the way to the home planet of the Engineers. Also uncovered is evidence suggesting that the Engineers had a database of all life on Earth, and may even have been responsible for its creation including Man.

In a partially-submerged MANHATTAN, Vickers meets with Dr. Shaw and an OPO, (Off-Planet-Officer), CAPTAIN JERAMIAH JANEK, and plans a space mission following the discovered star charts in an effort to find and make first contact with the Engineers. For the scientists and explorers onboard, it will be a journey of discovery, but for Vickers, it’s merely a way of obtaining new technology so that Weyland-Yutani may retain the lead in the competitive race to establish colonies off-world.

The depths of space: 2090. A highly-advanced, top-of-the-line ISRV (Interstellar Research Vessel) PROMETHEUS decelerates as it reaches its target solar system. The vessel’s crew emerges from their cryo-chambers. Along with Elizabeth Shaw, Theo Zedmore, Logan, Meredith Vickers, and Captain Janek, the crew of the Prometheus is comprised of: First Officer MUDOW, Security Officer RAYDEN HOLLOWAY, Navigator CHANCE, Helm Officer RAVEL, Operations Android DAVID 4.0, Political Officer ALDRICH, Medical Officer FRANCIS, Engineer YURI, and Technical Officers SIENA, LETTUP, and TEMBROOK. The crew gets acclimated to their removal from cryo-sleep, their muscles in atrophy from five years without use. Holloway assists Shaw in her physical therapy exercises.

The crew prepares for arrival at the home planet of the Engineers. Shaw and Holloway are instantly attracted to each other, initiating a romantic relationship. However, as they enter the Zeta 2 Reticuli star system, Prometheus encounters a massive disturbance which hadn’t appeared on scanners, one even more powerful than a black hole: a wormhole in space. Prometheus is sucked into the wormhole, and after a harrowing ride, emerges on the other end. The ship crashes on a barren planet, which the damaged computer system identifies as the mission’s final destination.

The crew sets about attempting to repair the Prometheus, while Elizabeth Shaw leads a recon expedition to investigate nearby structures, which turn out to be a cavernous Engineer temple. Inside the temple, Shaw’s team encounters a bizarre BIO-BRAIN, a biomechanical humanoid face set within a towering pillar, as well as thousands of seemingly primitive URNS. David takes several of the urns back to the vessel for analysis.

Investigating the urns, David discovers that they contain the genetic material for thousands of species within a viscous liquid called BIOFORMER which can rewrite any living organism on a cellular level. Basically, possession of the substance gives its owner the power to create life. Vickers interacts with David and seemingly innocently leads to the Bioformer infecting David through a cut in his finger.

Within the depths of the Temple, we find several living Engineers who discover the transgression of the Humans, and remotely rewrite the stolen Bioformer to make it into a weapon. The Engineers capture Holloway and run a number of horrific experiments on him, injecting him with the Bioformer and allowing him to return to the vessel.

Subsequently, the crew of the Prometheus begins to fall victim to the now weaponized substance, as the “carrier” Holloway injects Ravel, Zedmore, Francis, Siena, Lettup, and Tembrook. The victims begin to lose their humanity and slowly transform, experiencing nightmarish visions and hallucinations and making pilgrimages to the depths of the Temple to receive instructions from the Bio-Brain. Holloway, in particular, is resistant to the transformation, fighting against the alien influence with his feelings for Shaw and his responsibilities as security officer. Meanwhile, David finds that the Bioformer is making him into a biological being…making him Human. The crew also finds that their trip through the wormhole took them back hundreds of millions of years and they are actually stranded on primordial Earth, having moved through space and time.

Eventually, as alien influence and the continued lurking presence of the Engineers becomes clear, the crew of the Prometheus turns on each other as the infected human victims fully mutate into PROTOFORMS: vicious, skeletal alien monstrosities which proceed to assault the unaffected Human crew through the halls of the Prometheus.

Mudow, Logan, Chance, Aldrich, Yuri, and Janek end up being destroyed by the Protoforms. In a strange, erotic ceremony, the Protoforms seemingly mate with the Bio-Brain and each other to create thousands of EGGS, the first of a new generation of the monsters. Meredith Vickers is revealed to be a sleeper CONSTRUCT of the Engineers, who are still active in their far future and Shaw’s present due to the time-travelling abilities of the wormhole. Vickers was grown in an Engineer lab but escaped, fleeing to Earth while always wanting to her find creators and take their power. The Engineers activate Vickers’ secondary GENE PROGRAMMING, and she transforms into an ALPHA PROTOFORM: the STAR BEAST.

At last, the two remaining crew members, Elizabeth Shaw and David, seek to confront the Engineers in the Temple. The Godlike entities prove to be utterly evil, and David sacrifices himself as he’s dissolved in the LIFE SEED BIOFORMER which is the basic genetic recipe for MAN: the former android David, it turns out, is the basis for all Mankind. Shaw is captured by Holloway, but he regains enough of his humanity to remotely activate an Engineer vessel for Shaw’s escape, then holds the other Protoforms and Engineers at bay. As Shaw escapes, she finds herself in the midst of the initial Engineer terraforming of Earth which we had witnessed in the opening montage, chased by the former Meredith Vickers who is now the gigantic, horrific Star Beast.

Shaw makes to her escape vessel which blasts off for the wormhole, Holloway fighting the Star Beast with both falling into the wormhole and disappearing. An Engineer PILOT detaches from the Temple in a FAMILIAR VESSEL and follows Shaw, but is lost in the wormhole. Shaw emerges above the Earth of her present day; however, she’s deemed insane and responsible for the loss of her expedition and confined to a psychiatric hospital by the Company. It’s implied that there are at least some of those who believe Shaw’s tale, but have silenced her as part of a cover-up.

In the final scene, we see the vessel of the Engineer that was chasing Elizabeth Shaw emerge from the wormhole in the Zeta 2 Reticuli star system, still in the prehistoric past, and crash on a nearby planetoid, the Engineer Pilot helplessly lost and the EGGS in the ship’s cargo hold stirring as something alive moves from within…

First glimpse at Ridley Scott’s ‘Alien’-related ‘Prometheus’
Posted on December 19, 2011 by ningen31

Charlize Theron, the Monster/Aeon Flux star, is scheduled to join Girl with the Dragon Tattoo lead Noomi Rapace on Ridley Scott’s, “No longer Alien 0, but something new with the same recycled material called Prometheus.” The actual film is scheduled to be in theaters on June 8 of next year. Scott has an established and recognized legacy of action and thriller films, including Blade Runner, Gladiator, Kingdom of Heaven, and American Gangster.

Update: Logan Marshall-Green, of 24 fame, has been added as a love interest for Rapace’s character. X-Men: First Class’s Michael Fassbender, Thor co-star Idris Elba, Outlaw actor Sean Farris and Kate Dickie have also been added to the cast.

Update 2: Via Rotten Tomatoes and Collider, Memento’s Guy Pearce has been confirmed to join the production.

Update 3: X-Men: The Last Stand’s Ben Foster has been added to the cast.

Update 4: While Scott was intentionally elusive about whether or not Prometheus is related to Alien, he did note he plans to work on PG-13 and R-rated cuts of the former film. Scott also touted the 3D aspect of the film.

Update 5: Via @moviefone, Watchmen’s Patrick Wilson has been added to the cast. Oh, and check out the doors on this thing, I guess.

Update 6: Fandompost has unearthed more of the premise for Prometheus. Also of note is that they locked down a June 8, 2012 theatrical date for the film.

Update 7: You can read more about the characters at Dark Horizons, courtesy of MTV.

Update 8: Rapace discusses more about her character at Dark Horizons via Latino Review and After Posten.

Update 9: Alienprequelnews.com reports that MA actor Darwin Shaw will play a character known as The Engineer, while Matthew Rook will play a character known as Elder Engineer. Thanks to @timmaughan and @alienpreqnews for the update.

Update 10: Dark Horizons via Speakeasy has a comment from Scott which suggests there might be an Alien connection-albeit miniscule-after all. Also, Sigourney Weaver will not be making a cameo in Prometheus.

Update 11: Bloody Disgusting has the first scans of Prometheus‘ unveil from an upcoming issue of Entertainment Weekly.

Update 12: Comicbookmovie.com linked a low-res leaked trailer.

Update 13: AICN via boxofficebuz.com linked possible Prometheus spoilers. Correction: Looks like it’s a fake. Thanks to @timmaughan for the tip.

Update 14: CBM linked some hi-res pics.

Update 15: Theron talks about working with Scott at Moviefone.

Update 16: AICN has the poster.

Update 17: New pics via CBM and Empire.

Update 18: Comicbookmovie.com uploaded an iTunes teaser to whet your appetites for the upcoming official trailer heading online in a few days. Also, CBM got info from Filmophilia about Alien creature designer H.R. Giger’s involvement on Prometheus.

The secrets of "Prometheus"
What happened to Elizabeth Shaw? Who is that in the wheelchair?
Recently released, in the form of heavily Alien inspired, teaser trailer for "Prometheus" is perhaps one of the most intriguing promos ever released. I have been watching it for some time now, on repeat, and it is driving me crazy. The whole cast and Ridley Scott have been teasing all of us cruelly for the last few months - apparently changing their minds whether it is a prequel of "Alien" or it is not. The teaser pretty much proves that in fact, "Prometheus" has very strong links to the iconic movie - here is a wonderful breakdown of the trailer, frame by frame.

What we know for sure is that Charlize Theron is playing a villain - how hot is that - and Noomi Rapace is the heroine of the story - Elizabeth Shaw, whom we see screaming in the trailer. Michael Fassbender stars as an android, who may or may not start becoming - literally - human in the progress of the story.
Charlize Theron, possibly doing push ups after sleeping during space travel?
The thing everyone wants to know is if Alien, in my opinion the scariest movie monster to ever appear on screen, will also appear in this movie. Having read most of the rumours I'm certain that we will see some variation of the creature. Well, we will certainly see the eggs, teaser shows them, but I think everyone wants to see Alien bouncing around. There were people in Alien costumes on the set. So, let's keep our fingers crossed. Although the realist in me thinks that what Scott said - about last 8 minutes of "Prometheus" being a link to "Alien" - will involve the eggs in the cave, that are found in the, chronologically, first film.

From what I gathered from the synopsis, that is flying around the Internet, it seems there may be some conflict on the ship and that the team will start fighting within the group. I think the synopsis is real, since it has strong ties to trailer images and Alien mythology, so to speak. In this case the monsters in this story will be mutated people.
There is a strong chance that there will be a freaky pregnancy in the film - the leaked early version of the trailer has footage of Shaw's belly rising, in the scene similar to Ripley's dream in "Aliens"- if it's the case - is the pregnancy by infected crew member? or by Alien? Is it a coincidence or an experiment?

Scott says there will be the scene showing the creation of Earth. From many rumours it seems that Earth may have been created by aliens or if you wish the Engineers. We may see them in the film.

Theron says about her character "she’s working with the company that’s sponsoring this whole thing and you can feel she definitely has an agenda, which we pick up in the third act.". That would tie in with the thing written in synopsis that may or may not be fake that she is more than she appears.
Scott has said that the title is reminiscent of the well known myth where Prometheus stole the fire from Gods, bringing their wrath on human race. I'm still puzzled by this, although the general consensus in speculations seems to be that it's Charlize Theron's character that will do something to bring doom on the ship.

Another thing - which appears to be most well known - is that the film will answer the mystery of Space Jockey. For those unfamiliar with the term - you know that scene in "Alien" where they see this huge throne-thing with dead, huge creature in it? Yeah, that's Space Jockey. They kinda dropped it and it's one of the hings that builds freaky climate of the original film, but now Scott decided to dig deeper on that idea. He definitely went ahead with it, as in one scene in the teaser we see Charlize Theron with Space Jockey's helmet, somewhat smaller, on the table.
Hopefully after "Aliens" which was James Cameron's abomination - he took World's greatest horror movie and turned it into action/adventure/family/drama/crap, "Alien 3" raped by the studio and "Alien Resurrection" which was just...too much of grotesque for any one's taste, when rightful master of the series - Ridley Scott - is in director's chair again, we will get the prequel worthy of original movie. The movie will be shown in 3D which I don't object to, either with PG-13 or R rating which I will object to. It is Alien prequel, or if you follow Scott's diversion technique "the movie set in Alien universe" - it has to be R rated.

Ridley Scott also said that the movie will have ties to the original films and not to the sequels. That makes me very happy. At this point all of these are speculations of course, but we finally have something to go on - the teaser is just fascinating and promises one of the best - if not the best - movies of 2012. We have six months to wait. Let's hope the film is worth it.

Ridley Scott films last Prometheus scenes in Scotland
AvPGalaxy reports that Ridley Scott has went to the Isle of Skye in Scotland last weekend to shoot a couple of pick-up shots for Prometheus.

According to community based newspaper West Highland Free Press, Ridley Scott was "overseeing filming of some of the final scenes" around the Old Man of Storr, a large sea-stack off the coast of Trotternish Ridge in the Scottish Highlands.

Another report of the shoot comes from the unlikely source of portable toilet hire company, Nixon Toilet Hire, who had to deliver portable toilets and equipment for the shoot before January 13th.
They report the success on their blog along with a couple of photos from the location:

"When the required generators, tower lights and portable toilets, through some sort of small miracle, arrived at the scheduled time, the actors and crew were all delighted and amazed."

Exactly which actors were present for the shoot is not mentioned, and why they've had to go back for a pick-up shoot is another question.

The major gongs at this year's Oscars were dominated by silent French movie 'The Artist' - though looking ahead to 2013, it could be a more wide-open race. Ridley Scott's sci-fi thriller Prometheus', starring Michael Fassbender, is being tipped as a possible Oscar nominee, while The Dark Knight Rises will surely be a contender. Elsewhere, Clint Eastwood's role as an ageing baseball scout in 'Trouble with the Curve' could see the veteran return to the Academy Awards with a Best Actor nomination, while Leonardo Dicaprio may finally take home the award for his role in 'The Great Gatsby'.

Fox Launches Out-of-this-World Marketing Campaign for Prometheus
ShareThis Print

Published March 16, 2012

One of the great multichannel marketing examples of the past few years was the campaign for the Warner Bros. film Inception. The initiative - which had several viral digital marketing components such as social media games and cryptic online videos - amped up the mystery shrouding Inception and was largely credited with driving interest in the movie.

Now, Fox is trying to hit similar notes with its upcoming sci-fi movie, Prometheus. The first pictures from the film surfaced last year, but they showed only vague images of astronauts. More recently, new sets of images were released to media sites and the company's own microsites, further evoking the mystery behind the origins of the aliens.

A 30-second trailer was launched in December that quickly spread on YouTube, amassing nearly 8 million views. This clip was attached to the movie's Facebook page, which has accrued upward of 100,000 Likes.

Fox is taking the viral nature of the campaign one step further, Den of Geek notes, through the launch of a mock blog run by a fictional corporation in the movie. This blog offers further hints about the background of Prometheus.

As the source notes, the care with which the campaign is being executed shows the respect Fox has for film and its fans, which is helping to drive excitement.

"Whether Prometheus proves to be an acclaimed hit or not, it feels like a film that's being marketed by people who have a passion and understanding of what they're selling – and their eagerness to keep so much under wraps merely makes us want to see the finished film all the more," Den of Geek concludes.

Prometheus is set to hit theaters this summer on June 8. A new trailer is slated to launch on Saturday, further enhancing the digital marketing effort.
