Michael Fassbender: We need to take a look at our relationship with sex
Michael Fassbender has compared his growing heartthrob status to a ‘hula hoop’ and claimed it was odd that people found it more normal to see people shooting a gun on screen rather than having sex.

The rising star said getting his kit off was easy-peasy but insisted he had many talents when his clothes were on, too.
After spanking Keira Knightley in A Dangerous Method, a full frontal in Shame and starring in five films this year, capped by a Golden Globe nod, Fassbender said: ‘Nothing changes. My life continues how it is. It really is that simple.’
Riding high in the ‘hottest men’ polls, the 34-year-old explained: ‘All this other stuff… someone always made this analogy… it’s kind of like the hula hoop.
‘You know the hula hoop comes into fashion and everybody’s doing the hula hoop and three years later it’s that bouncing space hopper or the skateboard. So at the moment, a sort of amount of attention comes my way but it is what it is.’
The Irish-German actor doesn’t want to be judged by his birthday suit, insisting sex on film is far less shocking than seeing a bullet fired on screen.
‘I’ve done a lot of films where there is none of that stuff involved. People seem to latch on to it. What can I do?’ he told me.
‘There is a lot of excitement about nudity which seems a bit strange considering a lot of us spend a lot of our time naked.’
It’s time to chill out about sex, he said. ‘Maybe we need to take a look at our relationship with sex and the female form. It seems to be more the norm to have a gun in your hand and shooting somebody and I’ve never done that.’
Despite his cool aura, the smoothy admitted even he could lose control.
‘Sometimes I’ll have one drink too many. Or I will work maybe a little bit too much or I will train specifically for six weeks and then stop. Everything needs to be kept in balance.
‘Especially nowadays where there is so much information. It can create a lot of anxiety and people want to shut off or shut down or escape. Sometimes the balance gets tipped, for sure.’
