When George Clooney name-drops you at the Golden Globes, you know it's been a very good year. For Michael Fassbender, GQ's Actor Of The Year, the last 12 months have seen a run of form which most leading men can only dream of. His 2012 began in British cinemas with Steve McQueen's stunning sex addiction drama Shame, followed by Steven Soderbergh's frenetic thriller Haywire and David Cronenberg's disturbing A Dangerous Method before concluding, in some style, as chilling blonde android David in Ridley Scott's sci-fi epic Prometheus. Fassbender straddles art house and blockbuster alike and the 35-year-old's work has seen him embraced by Hollywood's finest, from Sir Ridley (who has already signed the actor for his next project, The Counselor) to Brad Pitt, who will co-star in McQueen's next film Twelve Years A Slave. Fassbender even graced his first GQ cover in February, telling Olivia Cole that part of his strength was recognising his vulnerability: "I'm not immune to anything but I'm aware of my weakness and the beast within".
