Michael Fassbender exploded on the Film world with his unflinching portrayal of Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen’s Cannes Film Festival Camera D’or winning HUNGER. He is one of the hottest young actors on the planet with acclaimed directors lining up to work with him. Last seen in Quentin Tarantino’s INGLORIOUS BASTERDS, Michael, who grew up in Killarney, has a wonderful career ahead of him.

Fassbender and Irons for Film Festival

By SIMON BROUDER

Wednesday October 14 2009

ACTING legend Jeremy Irons and Kerry based actor Michael Fassbender have been named among the judges for this year's tenth anniversary Kerry Film Festival.

Irons and Fassbender will join Irish visual effects artist Simon Brown and film and theatre critic James Christopher as judges for the Kerry Film Festival short film competitions.

"Jeremy Irons, is an Oscar winning actor and one of the finest actors of all time and Michael Fassbender set the film world alight with his unflinching portrayal of Bobby Sands in Steve McQueen's Hunger a role which, for my money at least, should have seen him win an Oscar," said Kerry Film Director Jason Festival O'Mahony.

"James Christopher is one of the most respected film critics in the world and Chief Critic on The Times in the UK for many years and Simon Brown is a fantastic Irish animator, who was lead animator on the recent Ice Age films and also worked with James Cameron on the upcoming AVATAR," he said.

"Every member of the adjudication panel is at the very forefront of their chosen profession and we're absolutely thrilled that they have decided to help adjudicate the 2009 Kerry Film Festival," said Jason O'Mahony.

This will be the tenth year of the Kerry Film Festival and both the quantity and quality of the films has risen year on year.

The adjudicators have the unenviable task of selecting the best films from this year's selection. Close to five hundred films were submitted to the 2009 Kerry Film Festival, up significantly on the total number of films submitted last year and more than double the number of films submitted in previous years. It has also been announced that director Rebecca Miller is to receive the Maureen O' Hara Award at the festival.

Rebecca Miller, the wife of actor Daniel Day Lewis worked as a painter and an actress before becoming a writer and the director of several acclaimed films including Angela and the Ballad of Jack and Rose.

The film Festival will run in venues across Kerry from October 31 to November 7.

According to MFO sources, Michael may or may not actually attend the festival. He may still be working in L.A. If any news comes through, we'll let you know. :icecream1:

Until there's photographic proof, not sure that Michael actually attended. Jet setting isn't something he does right now.

The festival awards ceremony was hosted by RTE’s Dave Fanning and the winning short film was chosen, as most of the winning films were, by the festival adjudicators actors Jeremy Irons, Michael Fassbender, visual effects artist Simon Brown and author and critic James Christopher who was also present for the awards ceremony.

Writer and director Rebecca Miller was also presented with the Maureen O’Hara Award and was accompanied to the ceremony by her husband Best Actor winner Daniel Day Lewis.
