Three other reasons why this is a great film ensemble: Christoph Waltz, Mélanie Laurent, and Michael Fassbender. Their show stealing performances deserve the overused term: tour-de-force.

Not only does it feature the director’s trademark dialogue (and plenty of it), but it also boasts a stellar ensemble cast, award-worthy performances from Christoph Waltz and Michael Fassbender

incredible gunfights in very small spaces (involving the amazing Michael Fassbender playing a British soldier joining the Basterds undercover)

From Brad Pitt’s hillbilly Basterd, to Michael Fassbender’s wonderfully British captain, to Christoph Waltz’s unforgettable villain, Inglourious Basterds is an absolute treat from start to finish.

I really think Michael Fassbender’s performance has been forgotten too, with the praise that Waltz has received (deserved).

The more I watch this, the more I realize that it's about the cast. Christoph Waltz is clearly paramount to the film's success, but without the work of Michael Fassbender, Melanie Laurent, Brad Pitt, August Diehl, and Daniel Brühl, their respective scenes would have been unconvincing and boring.

Michael Fassbender is awesome as the British agent in the films best scene with the best final speech ever.

Classic Scene: Hard to pick from so many but the scene in the bar which leads to the short, sudden burst of violence has to be it. You could cut the tension with a knife.

Michael Fassbender took a small, archaic role ("old chap, I hope you don't mind if I go out speaking the King's ...")and made it shine.

Michael Fassbinder (Fassbender) deserves an elegant nod for his portrayal of a British film critic turned spy

Michael Fassbinder plays Lt. Archie Hicox wonderfully, and it's the 'legitimates' such as he that make the film

I really like Michael Fassbender doing an impersonation of Lawrence Oliver while playing a British spy who resembled Lawrence Olivier and was disappointed that he (a spy personally appointed by Churchill), along with Sgt. Stiglitz (an expert is violence and savagery), just up and die in a bar after talking a lot. Needs more epic deaths for supposedly epic characters.

Michael Fassbender is also a treat as a smooth-talking and smarmy Brit who gets not nearly enough screentime.

B) Michael Fassbender, who made Zero impression on me in "300" is excellent as Archie Hicox. And I think I may have been watching the actor who eventually replaces Daniel Craig as James Bond in another five years or so. Fassbender is so much like a young Connery. Watch the scene where he is briefed by Winston Churchill and tell me it doesn't remind you of "Thunderball" or "From Russia With Love." And watch his grace under pressure in the tavern scene and tell me you don't think he'd be a good Bond. Count me a fan;

Michael Fassbender should also get a special mention, partly because of the name, partly because I loved his character, and partly because he did such a fantastic job with it.

There are other examples too, like the introduction of Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender), looking like a stunt double Sean Connery just walked off the set of Richard Attenborough's A Bridge Too Far (1977) and straight into a typically serious, stiff-upper-lipped, War-Time propaganda piece from the early 1940s

(Almost equally great is Michael Fassbender and the gripping basement scene involving his LT. Archie Hicox should not be missed.)
