Them Hooks…
They got ‘em in me.
I did not care for Wolverine Origins, because it was not a good movie, and what the hell was up with Deadpool? X-Men 1, looking back now, was kind of spotty. Someone once described it as a really well made made-for-TV movie, which I think is pretty accurate. The less said about X-Men 3, the better. (Not joking. The night I saw it, I got into a shouting match with a friend over the fact that I thought it was a travesty of filmmaking, and he told me to calm down because it was “just a story.” Not my proudest night.)
X-Men 2, though. Number 2 had it going on. We call that the Nightcrawler factor.
There’s a thing about the X-Men films that makes it hard not to think of them as subdued. Even at their highest pitch, their fastest pace, I can’t help but think of them as quiet films. Generally speaking, this is poison for a genre film, especially a film about people with superpowers. With X-Men, though, it’s always the quiet moments that work the best. Take, for instance, the scene from the first film when Logan/Wolverine/James/Hottie McCanada wakes up in the Mansion for the first time. He wanders the halls, silently observing, listening to a disembodied voice that’s guiding him upstairs to, of all things, a classroom, where he finds a group of children and a bald man in a wheelchair. A quiet scene, and one of the best.
The climax of X2 even, hinges on a completely internalized struggle between Patrick Stewart’s Prof. Xavier and the illusions created by a student he failed to help in the way he needed. Quiet, and intense. (It shouldn’t have been any big surprise, then, that Bryan Singer, who directed the first two films later directed a Superman film that was largely quiet and meditative.)
It’s when they decide to go big that the movies hit their rough patches, because they never really escape that quiet energy, and when you combine a quiet energy with big high-falutin’ spectacle, you get boring, and X3 and Wolverine were nothing but.
Sadly, X-Men: First Class already has a lot going against it. Aside from Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender), a lot of the characters they’ve included are pretty random. As you can see in the above trailer (sorry for the weird formatting), there’s a lot of high-falutin’ spectacle.
This film has a lot working for it as well, though. For one, I haven’t come across a movie directed by Matthew Vaughn that I didn’t enjoy tremendously. The cast includes James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender, not to mention one KEVIN. f#%@#&!. BACON. Not to mention the fact that the core of these films has always been the relationship between Xavier and Magneto. And, pathetically, contrary to the evidence, I’m even hopeful that they manage to pull off that giant airplane/submarine fight.
So color me stoked, and forgive me in six months when I rage in my disappointment.

X Men First Class Trailer
X Men First Class Trailer-20th Century Fox has released the first movie trailer for Matthew Vaughn‘s X-Men: First Class on Facebook. Based on a story by original X-Men director Bryan Singer, the new film is a Casino Royale-style prequel/reboot of the comic book movie series. The story “charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.” This first trailer gives a much better idea of what we can expect from this film. And it seems like it should calm fans worried that we wouldn’t see much mutant action.
X Men First Class Trailer
Release Date: June 3, 2011
Starring: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon
Directed By: Matthew Vaughn
Written By: TBD, based on a story by Bryan Singer
Official Plot Synopsis:
X-MEN FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to prevent nuclear Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

deadpool, common, sense
Further proof that this year's summer movies will totally kick last year's ass:
Link.
Dude. This looks amazing. Or at least 500x better than X3 and Wolverine. I'm actually rather glad that Wolverine will not be in this movie. He always grates on my nerves, and he seriously needs a break. Really.
Thoughts:
* Michael Fassbender looks wonderfully gorgeous as Magneto. Good Lord, that man looks great in leather! That aside, I do think he'll make a great Magneto. This trailer doesn't have a lot of dialogue, but his expressions have the right intensity, and I can definitely see how this angry young rebel will eventually become Sir Ian McKellen's stately, older mutant rights activist. Should he be called that?
* James McAvoy...I'm still not sure about. I'll need to see a second trailer with more dialogue before I form a full opinion of him. Also, he looks a bit odd here. ...Maybe it's his hair? I don't know.
* I loved the way they framed the trailer with clips from the earlier movies. I think it will help people accept new actors as these characters. And it just looked kind of cool, but I don't know why.
* Kevin Bacon looks...like fun as the villain, though I've heard the film's design looks radically different from the comics' version. I saw a picture of his character's comic book design, and I'm not sure he'd work well onscreen looking like that.
* MYSTIQUE! I'll admit it: I have quite a girl!crush on Mystique, and I love that she's here, though I don't think she was ever an X-person in the comics. That's okay because it looks like she has sex while she's blue. Fetish Fuel FTW. I hope she sleeps with Magneto, since I've shipped them since the first film, but she probably doesn't. Alas...
* January Jones as Emma Frost = Coolness. She looks like she'll be a ton of fun. I hope.
* That scene where the ickle!X-Men are watching Kennedy's speech while wearing sweats, pajamas, and other casual clothing made me want, um, orgy fic. I've never genuinely wanted that before.
* Things I ship now, if I didn't already: Xavier/Magneto, Magneto/Mystique, Mystique/Everbody, Magneto/Everybody, All of the X-Men in sweatpants.
* Wow, this trailer really brought out all of my kinks. I really hope this film gets a kink meme.

X-Men: First Class. Re-establishing Faith in The Superhero Movie
News Friday, February 11 by Captain
The trailer for X-Men: First Class has been released, and it's a doozy.
The film, directed by Kick-Ass's Matthew Vaughn, will be released on June 3 in the US. Starring James McEvoy, Michael Fassbender, January Jones, Kevin Bacon and Rose Byrne, this looks to be the goods.
Interesting to note that Vaughn was originally slated for the third X-Men movie, but was kicked off in favour of Brett Rattner, much to the detriment of the X-Men franchise. After the critical success of his self-financed Kick Ass, Vaughn was seen in a new light by Fox, and now, several years later, we see what the one-time Guy Ritchie producer can do when he gets his hands on some X-Men.
The results look promising, to say the least.
McEvoy and Fassbender are convincing as the young Charles Xavier and Magneto. The plot seems to revolve around the Cuban missile crisis, featuring an X-Men converted SR-71 Blackbird, which brings the awesomeness levels to a satisfactory point in the squee-meter.

X-Men: First Class Has A Trailer, And It's Very, Very Good
Oh man, this is just too cool. Kick-Ass director Matthew Vaughn's new movie, X-Men: First Class has finally gotten a trailer, and it has completely blown me away. Talk about epic! Magneto lifts a freaking submarine out of the water! I can't wait to see what else is in store.
X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones and...KEVIN BACON. It's being released on June 3, 2011.

X-Men: First Class Trailer is Up
By
CocoaCritic
– February 10, 2011
Finally, here’s a look at “X-Men: First Class”. Not much is revealed unfortunately, but we do catch a glimpse of some of Xavier’s students. From the trailer, it appears Michael Fassbender is an excellent Magneto. As a fan of previous work, I had a feeling he would be. James McAvoy, whom I’ve grown fond of since “The Last King of Scotland” isn’t wowing me. To be honest, neither is the trailer. However, as a whole, “X-Men: First Class” is looking pretty impressive.
“X-Men: First Class” opens June 3rd.

Thursday trailer: “X-Men: First Class”
Posted by Bob Westal (02/10/2011 @ 8:17 pm)
It’s still the dead of Winter, but Summer (or the movie version of it, which actually stars in late Spring) is getting closer every day. “X-Men: First Class” is of special interest to me as it marks the return of director Matthew Vaughn to the franchise. (Vaughn famously dropped out the third X-Men installment shortly before production and was replaced by nobody’s favorite, Brett Ratner.)
Ironically, I’m not the biggest fan of any of the “X-Men” movies I’ve seen so far. However, Vaughn and his writing collaborator, Jane Goldman, most recently of “Kick-Ass,” have batted 1000 a with me as they careen from genre to genre and fail to rake in the big money I think they richly deserve. Let’s just hope this isn’t only a movie for critics and hardcore genre geeks. As you probably already know, James McAvoy is a much hairier and more ambulatory Dr. Charles Xavier and Michael Fassbender is a much younger Magneto.
H/t Deadline. I’m definitely digging the retro vibe here.

X-Men First Class : Stylish first trailer defies expectations
Matthew Vaughn is a very interesting filmmaker. With the first look at X-Men: First Class now available online, I find myself caught between two reactions. The trailer both defies my expectations for the film and manage to deliver exactly what I should expect from a director like Vaughn.
It was only the other day in my post for the Superman Classic short film, that I commented on a desire to see more comic book movies with a period setting. I can't believe I'd forgotten all about First Class. If there is one thing this trailer does well, it's set up this alternate history Earth where Mutants got caught up in the Cuban Missile Crisis.
At the moment, this setup most echoes Watchmen, but like I've previously discussed, it's great that movies like this and Captain America are doing the period setting. X-Men was born in the 60s, and it deserves to start there. It provides a short hand richness to the world that makes it all the more believable than the 'few year from now' setting the first three movies used.
It's also exciting to see them sidestep a teaser and go straight to showing us all a good glimpse of the footage, while still keeping the movie close to their chest. We've got plenty of mutant action, the costumes look much better in motion (and every body bitching about the 'parachute straps' needs to shut up as they're on a jet during this scene. makes sense to incorporate parachute straps to me), we've got a few intriguing hints in regards to the Hellfire Club as well as a snippet of what appears to be Vaughn's largest action scene yet. (Magneto pulling a submarine from the water? wow).
Click though for the embed.
This is the sort of film making I've come to expect from Vaughn, who has thus far demonstrated an amazing capability to shift from genre-to-genre, deconstructing the tropes and formula of those pictures all while having his cake and eating it too. What I mean is that as much as hey might deconstruct those genres, they're also great examples of them. Layer Cake is one of my favourite British crime films (and helped launch Daniel Craig), Stardust is one of the best additions to the genre in nearly two decades and Kick-Ass has helped move the comic-book film past that stale and rote formula of origin tales (despite cleverly being one itself).
So if I'm expecting great things from Vaughn and co, how has this trailer managed to shatter low expectations? Simply put, this may be a Marvel property, but it's a Fox Studios film. Even a strong filmmaker like Bryan Singer had his hands tied (though that was early in the current comic-book film cycle) and Gavin Hood certainly got screwed during X-Men Origins: Wolverine. The less said about Ratner's entertaining if mind-numbingly stupid entry the better. There's been tales of interference and troubled shoots, really poorly received publicity photos and a weird bit of resentment towards Vaughn for abandoning X-Men: Last Stand in the first place. It's mostly the FOX thing, but we had a good reason to be wary of future X-Men movies.
What kind of weird mutant brothel bed sharing kinkiness is
going on here? Charles and Erik check out Angel. Fox Studios
I reserve the right to change my mind, but at this stage, I'd say any concerns are unfounded. Regardless of how you feel about McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender is inspired casting as Erik Lensherr (or any other role... ever). The vfx work looks solid, but it's a little strange how this film seems to be only partly taking place in established X-Men film continuity. The ages of all our main cast are a bit askew with their comic counterparts, but I've come to accept that sort of stuff with adaptations. It's just very exciting to see a period set X-Men movie with the classic blue and yellow uniforms that seems grown up enough to indulge in some Hellfire Club kinkiness. I have a really good feeling about how Captain America and Thor will turn out. The Spider-Man reboot I'm tentatively hopeful for. X-Men: First Class was in my 'we'll wait and see' pile of films, and it just got shifted to my 'can't wait to see it' pile.
Dammit Vaughn, you've got me hooked.

Dammit Vaughn, you've got me hooked.

NEW – X-Men: First Class Trailer
February 10, 2011 thomasconroy
Okay, I know it feels like this site is simply turning into a website for trailers, but what can I say? They pump me up. Now while the last two X-Men installments left a terrible taste in my mouth, I am excited for this one for a simple reason: Michael Fassbender. This dude is perhaps one of the most exciting up-and-comers in the industry. I simply cannot get enough of him, from his scene-stealing performance as the undercover British major in “Inglourious Basterds” to his award-winning turn as an Irish hunger striker in “Hunger.” He is a sight to behold on the screen, and how he gets to chew it up as a young Magneto. It’s also worth noting that the highly talented, and even more highly gorgeous Jennifer Lawrence will have a role in this, as well.
We’ll see if this film will pull its weight as well as the first two films did. View the new trailer, below:

And Here It Is.....
Ladies and gentlemen, may I present to you the teaser trailer for the new X-Men movie. Now the X-Men have ALWAYS been my favorite superheroes, ever since I was a little girl, and my favorite plotline is the love triangle between Jean/Scott/Logan. I suppose I was destined for unrequited love. Anyway, here it is, McHottie--I certainly mean, James McAvoy as Dr. Xavier and Michael Fassbender as Magneto, the most famous friendly rivals we'll ever know. If anything, this trailer promises. Oh, how it promises.

Just out! I'm looking forward to this one. Michael Fassbender has given some brilliant performances in several under-seen films, so I'm glad he's got a meaty role in a more visible movie.

Trailer: X-Men: First Class
February 10, 2011 by Seth Quillen
Here’s the first trailer for X-Men: First Class, directed by Matthew Vaughn (Kick-Ass) from a story by the producer and X-Men alum, Bryan Singer. And it’s pretty sweet! There appears to be a darker tone in this film compared to previous X-Men movies, but I think that could be expected given this installment exists in the middle of the Cold War. The X-Men prequel also dives deeper into the once great friendship between Professor X (James McAvoy ) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) ant the eventual decline. X-Men: First Class also stars January Jones, Rose Byrne, Kevin Bacon, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, and Oliver Platt. X-Men: First Class hits theaters June 3rd.

X-MEN: FIRST CLASS Teaser Finally Drops.
Published On February 10th 2011 By Jonathan Sullivan. Under: Movie Trailers.
James McAvoy as Charles Xavier. With hair. Obviously.
With the release date for X-Men: First Class a mere four months away, it was getting a little disheartening that there hadn’t been a teaser trailer or anything for the project, outside of a couple of movie stills that didn’t really do anything for me. I gots to see things in action before I can make any uninformed judgments. Well the teaser finally dropped today, and courtesy of Deadline, I got it for you now. Check it out:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrbHykKUfTM
Nothing too big; it lets you know a little about what the movie is going to revolve around (Xavier/Magneto’s tumultuous friendship/partnership, the Cuban Missile Crisis) and we got some good looks at Emma Frost and Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. The little piece that got me the most excited had to do with what looks like Hank McCoy’s slow transformation into The Beast; he’s shown up in the movies before, but I like that we get to see him transform…although to be fair, it does contradict X2 when he was shown briefly on TV as a normal human. Oh well can’t win them all, and that’s just a nerdy nitpick anyway. Most of you don’t care.
Outside of that, X-Men: First Class has a different look than the other four X movies preceeding it; it’s not big or flashy and it looks like it’ll be more character driven. That’s an interesting way to go about things since most people want explosions and cigar chewing Canadians that have claws protruding from their knuckles. I just hope that everyone has their heads on for this one and it doesn’t turn into X-Men: The Last Stand. Nowhere to go but up methinks.

Vaughn’s X-MEN: FIRST CLASS
* February 10, 2011 5:54 pm
* Jeff Olson
The first official trailer has arrived for director Matthew Vaughn’s prequel to the X-Men franchise, titled X-Men: First Class. Hitting theaters June 3rd, X-Men: First Class stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and Kevin Bacon.
Released via Facebook, X-Men First Class is everything we have been hoping for. This looks like an entertaining prequel to the X-Men franchise which hasn’t had a film since 2006 (If you don’t count Wolverine.) Giving us an origin story of when Professor X was Charles and Magneto was Erik is a brilliant way to start this trailer and I truly hope the hype lives up to the film.
X-Men: First Class arrives in theaters on June 3rd. Watch this first official trailer for the movie below.
SYNOPSIS: X-MEN: FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events.

‘X-men: First Class’ Trailer Is Finally Here
Most people suspected that the trailer for Matthew Vaughn directed X-men: First Class was going to hit airwaves on Super Bowl Sunday. Not only was there no trailer, there wasn’t even a mention of the next film in the X-men franchise anywhere near football’s biggest day. Talk about missing the field goal and spoiling the whole game 20th Century Fox, that could have been huge. As of right now however (literally, right now) the world gets it’s first look at the X-men of the 1960’s with these exclusive trailer from the official X-men Movies Facebook page.
Get the popcorn and go-go boots ready
How was that for satisfaction? Does the trailer make up for how bad X-men 3 or Wolverine Origins was? Admit it, you hated those two. Yes, Marvel and Vaughn have magically switched up the origin of the X-men into something different (The original X-Men were Cyclops, Jean Grey, Iceman, Beast, and Angel), but this alternate universe does give us the essence of ‘classic’ X-Men. It blends Singers X-men with a 1960’s aesthetic. Mutants. Cuban Missile Crisis. Planes. Xavier with Hair and oh so sexy Emma Frost. It should be well worth the price of admission when X-men: First Class comes out June 3rd, 2011.

Trailer: 'X-Men: First Class'
Words: Saam Das
Matthew Vaughn's prequel to the existing 'X-Men' has finally dropped its first trailer and I see a lot to be hopeful for. 'X-Men: First Class' "charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events" - and judging from the trailer, particularly focusses on the friendship/rivalry of Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender).
The trailer has some amazing effects shots, new mutants and one puzzling moment for me where Fassbender is wearing a hoody (this is the Sixties?!) and holding a gun. I expect it to all come together nicely though when the film is released in June.

Just unveiled over at Facebook, the X-Men: First Class trailer is here. Directed by Matthew Vaughn (Stardust, Kick-Ass) and staring James McEvoy, Michael Fassbender, January Jones and a cast of thousands, it’s a retcon showing the origins of the mutant team in the 60s, starring young Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr. The original X-Men: First Class comic was written by Jeff Parker, but it hasn’t been explained how much of an influence it had on filmmakers.
This is miles better than the dreadfully boring stills have were previously released; Vaughn knows his superhero stuff and how to give it some life. Our one big beef: this does not look like it was set in the 60s! Some JFK voice-overs do not a different decade make! Have they never seen Mad Men? Or A Simple Man? Or…the British Avengers.

X-MEN:FIRST CLASS TEASER!!!
Well here it is... After two days of teases on Facebook we have the teaser trailer to X-Men: First Class. Realizing that it is less than two minutes of footage I can tell you the highlight of this movie is going to be Michael Fassbender's performance transforming Erik into Magneto. His final line "Peace was never an option." gave me chills. Wasn't completely floored but I am definitely intrigued.Matthew Vaughn I trust, will give us something special. Look forward to seeing more. What do you guys think?

X-Men First Class (James McAvoy, Rose Byrne) : Movie Trailer
February 11, 2011 by Sean Lynch
X-Men: First Class is finally making it’s way to cinemas, the fifth and latest in the crazily popular X-Men franchise (it also serves as a prequel to the first three X-Men movies, although, not Wolverine) which has now taken over a billion dollars worldwide.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, X-Men: First Class takes us back to the roots of the Marvel characters set during the 1960s, and focuses on the relationship between Professor X and Magneto and the origin of their groups, the X-Men and the Brotherhood of Mutants.
X-Men First Class
X-Men First Class
James McAvoy (Wanted) takes over the role of Professor X, while Michael Fassbender dons the helmet of Magneto. Kevin Bacon gets his Six Degrees going starring as Sebastian Shaw (the bad guy of the flick) while other cast members include January Jones, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence and Lucas Till.
The trailer looks pretty solid, and very much like it will fit in perfectly with the previous films. Although, for mine, X-Men has always been a little “Grey” for my liking – especially considering how much they have to work with – so hopefully Vaughn is able to inject a bit more fun into this one.
Enough blabber, here’s the trailer for X-Men : First Class

A first look into X-Men: First Class
Posted on 10. Feb, 2011 by Henry-K in Featured, Movies
Thank you 20th Century Fox!!! It’s here, the first movie trailer (HERE) giving all fans a dose of X-MEN FIRST CLASS . Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lehnsherr became Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men, and best friends who were just discovering their super-powers. XM-FC is the story of how it all began. It gives us a glimpse into the history before mutants had revealed themselves to the world. In this rare union (unlike how we have seen them in the previous X-Men films), Mutants (new and familiar ones) join forces to prevent nuclear Armageddon, circa the Kennedy presidency years. But in this process is where the brotherhood between Magneto (played by Micheal Fassbender) and Professor X ( James McAvoy) turnes into war.
At BNH we are very impressed with the casting: James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Rose Byrne, January Jones, Oliver Platt, and (there is always room for bacon) Kevin Bacon. It’s produced by the super-hero team of Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, and Bryan Singer, and directed by Matthew Vaughn (“Kick Ass” and “Layer Cake”). The film is slated to release on June 3, 2011. OPEN! OPEN! OPEN!

X-Men: First Class Trailer
Featuring up and coming stars such as James McAvoy (Wanted), Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Bastards) and Rose Byrne (Damages), this prequel looks promising enough to reboot the spin-off side stories, including another Origin series.
Here's hoping to series taken seriously.

‘X-Men: First Class’ trailer is here!
February 10, 2011
Yesterday, 20th Century Fox launched the X-Men Movies Facebook page and announced that the first trailer for the highly anticipated X-Men: First Class will be released the next day. Well, the moment is here! Check out the trailer below!
X-Men: First Class takes us to the beginning when Professor X and Magneto were just beginning to discover their powers and other mutants. I think this prequel was a smart move. It’s really interesting to see how everyone came together and then split apart. Plus, the cast is just brilliant. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender as Professor X and Magneto are great choices. Rose Byrne, Nicholas Hoult, Lucas Till, and Oscar nominee Jennifer Lawrence star in the movie as well. Matthew Vaughn is directing, and if you haven’t seen his hit “Kick-Ass,” we ask you go and do that now. This trailer looks amazing, and makes us really excited for the film coming out June 3rd!
Is the trailer what you were expecting? Sound off in the comments.

X-Tra Special
Is it possible for the X-Men prequel to wash away the bitter taste of The Last Stand?
Finally after all the build up of casting news, photos of said cast as everyones favourite mutant the first trailer for Matthew Vaughns X-Men: First Class is unleashed to the geek community expecting big things from the Kick-Ass director.
So far so good methinks. The new film appears to be keeping the film very much in the world established by X-Men and X2 director Bryan Singer (on producing duties here). The main focus of this first teaser is in Professor Xavier (James McAvoy) and Magneto (Michael Fassbender) and how these friends became foes in their quest for mutant rights.
The rest of the cast mostly seen in the briefest of brief moments that will no doubt be scrutinised frame by frame by people with far more time and patience than me. The films big bad Kevin Bacon was in there somewhere as was Rose Bryne, January Jones and the kid from About A Boy.
While there is a serious glut of superhero films this year I think this film is top of the anticipation list considering how well Vaughn and screenwriter Jane Goldman (aka Mrs Jonathan Ross) did with translating Mark Millar's comic book last year. They couldn't make a bigger hash of it than Brett Ratner did with his three-quel to the original films.
Could they?!
Guess we'll all find out this June.
