Centurion Trailer Looks Sword and Sandals-riffic
Published by Dan on February 12, 2010 in Coming Soon and Trailers

Neil Marshall’s a guy whose name most people won’t recognize by name, but by work. The guy’s responsible for the fantastically creepy and claustrophobic The Descent and Dog Soldiers (the good werewolf movie no one’s seen). Sure, he’s also guilty of spawning the craptastic Doomsday, but we’ll consider that dump-fest a pass for keeping his sword sharp.

Apparently keen to revisit the middle-aged themes weirdly introduced int he second half of Doomsday, Marshall’s next project is the dramatic-licensed Centurion. Based on the Roman Ninth legion that went missing (massacred!) during a tour of Britian, Centurion promises all kinds battling, running and Marshall-esque appendage lopping, squishy crunching and gushing blood.

The trailer plays like an alternate universe from Gladiator had the Romans lost the opening battle. And that’s ok by me. You can never have enough sword and sandal epics.

Inglorious Basterds‘ British bullet receptacle Michael Fassbender stars as the Legion’s corporal while the lovely, ex-boob-baring Olga Kurylenko (Hitman, Quantum of Solace) weirdly stars as some warlord lady. Weird because rail-thin models gussied up in war paint and trying their damnedest to swing a sword and look threatening feels less like gritty realism and more like geek-fantasy comedy. I get the whole hotties in barbarian bikinis thing but man, that image playing out in real life is goofy.

Centurion hits UK theaters in April and US theaters who-knows-when. At least you know you’ll see it on Bluray before the year is out. Watch skinny girls scream at their swords because they’re not carrot sticks below:

Centurion
Michael Fassbender finally gets to star in a major, blockbuster-type picture (after turning in great supporting performances in major films like 300 and Inglorious Basterds, and starring roles in smaller fare like Fish Tank and Hunger). This film, directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent) tells the swords-and-sandals story of a Roman legion in Britain ambushed by Pictish warriors and the captain (Fassbender) intent on rescuing his general (Dominic West) and enacting some revenge upon the Picts and their Warrior Queen (Olga Kurylenko). Looks like it could be awesome, as long as Vikings and Aliens don't both show up.

First trailer for 'Centurion': Blood, axes, and screaming Romans
by Keith Staskiewicz
Categories: Movie Trailers, Movies

The first line of dialogue in the just-released trailer for Centurion, Neil Marshall’s upcoming movie about a stranded Roman legion, is an Ackbarian “It’s a trap!” and what follows isn’t that much less clichéd. And yet, it still looks pretty darn awesome. It’s got all the requisite material for a kick-ass period action movie: swooping landscape shots, desaturated color palette, people jumping off cliffs into water, and more limb-hacking than a Civil War medic tent.

The principal players are all pretty solid, too. Marshall’s resume has high-quality horror fare on it like The Descent and Dog Soldiers, and star Michael Fassbender has proven himself a powerful acting force in films like Hunger and Inglourious Basterds. And, most importantly, it’s got McNulty!

It’s definitely got an undeniable 300 feel to it, and not just because both movies have Fassbender and West. There’s the few-against-many narrative, and I can totally see “I am a soldier of Rome! I will not yield!” becoming the new “This is Sparta!” Side note: Why is everybody always yelling in ancient Rome? Does this take place before they invented voice modulation? I always imagine these guys screaming their heads off about the smallest things: “I. AM. GOING. TO. USE. THE RESTROOM!” or “I’M A ROMAN WARRIOR AND I’M ALLERGIC TO NUTS!”

What do you think, PopWatchers? Excited for Centurion?

Let me preface this by saying that I have a huge crush on Michael Fassbender, I acknowledge the glory that is McNulty, and of course I’ll see this movie — but why are the actors’ names being flashed like they’re marquee stars? Maybe the faces would be slightly familiar to some people (that girl from that Bond movie!), but I submit that there’s no value in running their names in BIG BOLD SERIF LETTERS.

After “Inglorious Basterds”, anything with Michael Fassbender is a Must-See.

Neil Marshall’s Centurion – Trailer. Unlease Awesome

Posted by liveforfilms on February 12, 2010

Written and directed by Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent, Dog Soldiers), the film stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Liam Cunningham.

The movie speculates on the fate of Rome’s reputedly ‘lost’ Ninth Legion, who in this take are north of Hadrian’s Wall, engaged in a bloody battle and facing a bit of trouble getting out of hostile Pict country.

Looks like some more great action from Mr Marshall. Someone get him the rights to David Gemmell’s Legend. Now that would be cool.

What do you think about the Centurion trailer?

The Awesome First Trailer For CENTURION
By thepeoplesmovies

We’ve waited a hell of a long time for this but in the past hour thanks to IGN (via HeyUguys) please find below the first trailer for Neil Marshall’s CENTURION. The movie stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, David Morrisey, Quantum of Solace Beauty Olga Kurylenko and Young Bafta winner Noel Clarke.

The movie was directed by Neil Marshall who is reknowned for his crazy, insane but great movies such as Dog Soldiers, The Descent and Doomsday. The men behind the enemy lines movies are great stuff like Tarantino’s Basterds this one shows a legendary group of Roman soldiers left behind enemy lines trying to escape the vengeful insane Picts. If Marshall brings in the craziness and intensity he had in previous flicks into this this is going to be some movie!. The trailer sets the movie up well and I believe the movie was filmed in Scotland and myself been Scottish would make me descents of the Picts!!!

Bring on the Romans!!!The movie is due out in UK & Ireland on April 23rd and surprisngly for a change no American release date yet but Ill do my best to update when I can as Im sure we will see more footage from now until late April!

synopsis:Britain, A.D. 117. Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon. – IMDB

Centurion Trailer Redefines Bad Ass
By Will LeBlanc: 2010-02-12 11:36:25

Maybe it's just the setting that naturally lends itself to awesomeness, or maybe it's Michael Fassbender and Dominic West covered in blood and dirt, bellowing at their legion of soldiers or vicious captors. Either way, the trailer for Centurion promises badassery the likes we haven't seen in a long time.

Dropping over at IGN, the trailer for Neil Marshall's next looks to bring Roman Britain action and violence to the next level. The story follows the Ninth Roman Legion, sent into the land of the barbaric Picts to recover a captured Roman general. The film also stars a violently sexy Olga Kurylenko, whose war paint and savagery is somehow a huge turn-on. She makes it work, even with rivers of blood pouring out of her nose.

With no US release date set for Centurion it may be a little while before we get a chance to bask in the unbridled brutality of 2nd century Britain. But with enough hope and positive thinking, we should be able to get this thing over to us, right? Right. It'll be released in the UK April 23rd. Check out the trailer below.

Centurion: Bona fide bad ass trailer.

FINALLY… another kick ass “sword and sandals” film. I have been DYING for this one. The script is an awesome and brutal spectacle of violence and medieval action. From ass kicking Director Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) it chronicles the somewhat historic escape of Seven Ninth Legion Roman soldiers after their historic massacre.

Toting some of my FAVORITE actors including Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Bastards), Dominic West (The Wire, 300) and my absolute favorite looker on the planet, Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace, Max Payne) this movie will be a bloody thrill ride from FADE IN: to FADE OUT.

First trailer for Centurion now online

by Liam on February 12, 2010 · Comments

centurion Centurion is set in AD 117 and centers on the 9th Legion fighting for their lives behind enemy lines after a devastating guerrilla attack. It’s like 300, only with a winter backdrop and the warriors actually wear armour for protection, not just to look cool in slo-mo shots. The film stars Michael Fassbender (300), Dominic West (300), Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) and is directed by Niel Marshall, the man behind The Decent and Doomsday.

Today IGN released the first trailer for the film, and from the opening titles it appears Warner Bros. will be releasing the film; however that may only be in the UK. No US release date has been released as of yet (the cast is full of non-Americans, so if it is released in the US it may only be a limited one).

Centurion will be released in the UK on April 23rd. I’ll post the US release date once (and if) it gets one.

Neil Marshall’s Centurion Trailer Battles its Way Online
Centurion (2010) Movie, Featured, Videos — By Nix on February 12, 2010

The boys at IGN have your first look at Neil Marshall’s upcoming Roman legionnaires movie “Centurion”, which stars Michael Fassbender (“Inglourious Basterds”) as a Roman Centurion trapped behind enemy lines and Olga Kurylenko (“Quantum of Solace”) as a badass female Pict warrior. I have to admit, though, it’s not nearly as epic as I had expected it to be, but maybe they’re saving all the big stuff for later trailers. I also can’t get a handle on Kurylenko’s character — is she, as indicated below in the synopsis, Fassbender’s would-be ally, or the Pict assigned to hunting them down? The film co-stars Dominic West, aka the only douche bag Spartan from “300″.

Based on the legend of the Ninth Legion, an army of 3000 unstoppable Roman warriors who vanished without trace, Centurion is the tale of their vicious conflict with a murderous adversary, the Picts. Quintus Dias (Michael Fassbender), a Roman corporal, is taken hostage by the Pict King, Gorlacon and the Ninth are charged with bringing him home and ending Pict domination of Britain. Led by General Virilus (Dominic West) and guided by a Pict prisoner and warrior woman named Etain (Olga Kurylenko), the army marches towards enemy territory and finds itself in the midst of a perilous battle with a mysterious foe.

Starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Noel Clarke, David Morrissey, JJ Feild, Axelle Carolyn, Riz Ahmed, Dave Legeno, Ulrich Thomsen, and directed by Neil Marshall.

The centurions march in the UK April 23, 2010.

Awesome Trailer for Neil Marshall's Roman Epic Centurion!

Centurion Trailer

Fight or die. Wow, this looks incredible. IGN debuted the first official trailer for Neil Marshall's Roman soldier epic Centurion starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenko. Wow this looks unbelievably frickin' awesome! I love Neil Marshall's fight choreography and cinematography, it's gorgeous, and those two together here in this movie looks outstanding. Great cast, great visual style, what looks like a great story. It gives me chills! I kinda hate to say it, but this looks better than Ridley Scott's Robin Hood. I'm way more excited for this sword and sandals epic than Ridley's - that's a sign of the times. Watch it now!

Watch the first trailer for Neil Marshall's Centurion:

You can also download the Centurion trailer in High Definition on IGN

Centurion is both written and directed by British auteur Neil Marshall, of Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday previously. It's an epic action adventure film set in 117 AD about a group of Roman soldiers who must fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their entire legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack. I guess we didn't know until now, but it looks like Warner Brothers is bringing this to theaters in the US? No official release date is set yet, but I expect it to hit in the second half of the year, right when it's the perfect time. Until then, keep watching this trailer and telling others about it, too. What did you think?

I See Centurion, Too
.
It was four short days ago that I said this:

"... some word on Neil Marshall's next film, Centurion, starring oh-boy-you-betcha Michael Fassbender, would be welcome right about now too, it would..."

Lo, behold, what's better than "some word"? Some f#%@#&! pictures. That move, and s$#!. That's what! Via IGN comes the trailer, yo.

But apparently we still don't have a release date set for it.
Boo! This is The Year of the Fassbender. Make it happen!

ETA I hadn't actually watched the trailer before posting it - now I have (without sound) and holy crap I wanna see this movie! I am firmly entrenched in Team Neil Marshall anyway - my reactions to his three films so far have ranged from have liked-very-much (Doomsday, Dog Soldiers) to worship-on-my-knees (The Descent) - and this looks like a blast. Michael Fassbender also spends a good chunk of it shirtless, which helps. But other than that, it looks like a complete hoot. A hoot! I know a lot of people didn't really get Doomsday, which moments of this are reminding me of, though... but y'all are on the wrong side of history. Neil Marshall owns.

Oh and here's the quad poster (via):

Trailer for Neil Marshall’s latest film CENTURION
Rusty Gordon
by: Rusty Gordon
February 12th, 2010

A man to cherish is Neil Marshall. I understand that is a strange and possibly off-putting first sentence (especially if you’re Neil Marshall), but I think it is OK since I adore Marshall for non-creepy reasons. Marshall directed the films DOG SOLDIERS, THE DESCENT, and DOOMSDAY; three exciting and enjoyably grimy films that prove Marshall can create awesome.

Marshall’s fourth film CENTURION has to do with a small group Roman soldiers battling against a vicious enemy. It has swords and Michael Fassbender (Lt. Archie Hicox in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS), two elements that should make everyone excited, other than Neil directing the film of course. A trailer has been released for CENTURION, which you can check it out after the jump.

More Centurion News & Previews

This trailer does not give you a large glimpse into the film; a big chunk of it is just depicting the ambush. I can’t get a good feel on the film from this limited trailer. But it is Marshall, and what is shown does not look bad, so I have not lost any hope in CENTURION. I’m just not blown away at the moment.

What do you think?

Trailer for Neil Marshall's CENTURION!

I think Neil Marshall is one of the best UK directors working today and this trailer does not disappoint. I can't wait to see what he's done with Centurion, his new "Roman chase film" about a group of soldiers that have to fight for their lives behind enemy lines. Plus, could you ask for a better cast then Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko?

Synopsis:

IGN scored the trailer for the film. Centurion opens in the UK on April 23. Still no idea on when it opens anywhere else though.

Trailer after the break.

I thought Doomsday was a little on the crappy side. A decent action flick but the references to my favorite post-nuke and dystopia movies did not go unnoticed. This trailer for the next feature from director Neil Marshall looks like a nice recovery. I had decided after seeing Dog Soldiers that Marshall was one of the most promising directors working and then he became one of the most exciting with The Descent but I’m a little tired of reference heavy movies and Doomsday, a good idea, was fairly derivative and rescued by how ruthless it was.

Centurion, however, looks like a cool flick even though it’s looking like Marshall is referencing another one of my favorite movies, The Warriors. I just wonder how I’m supposed to give a crap about brutal Roman soldiers when I typically root for the heathens. Rome’s legacy speaks for itself but in the process of dominating the known world, they destroyed every foreign culture that they came into contact with. Watching a legion of Rome’s finest get their asses handed to them by a tribe of Celts ought to be nothing short of awesome.

Knowing Marshall, this movie is going to be a nasty, bloody affair that never stops short of showing you what your insides look like

This looks great, I’m a big fan of muddy, sword and sandal films. With Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dogsoldiers) directing and a great cast – Dominic West (McNulty), Noel Clarke, Michael Fassbender, Olga Kurylenko, Riz Ahmed and David Morrissey I’m in, two thumbs up!

The movie speculates on the fate of Rome’s reputedly ‘lost’ Ninth Legion*, who in this take are north of Hadrian’s Wall, engaged in a bloody battle and facing a bit of trouble getting out of hostile Pict country.

Trailer Talk: Centurion
Posted by ShowingOut On February - 12 - 2010

Hm… Yet another film that kind of fell out of thin air. Above is the trailer for Centurion, a film set in Roman Britain AD 117. Written and directed by British visionary Neil Marshall (The Descent), the film focuses on Roman soldiers who struggle to survive after their battalion is killed in a renegade attack. Centurion, which stars Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Noel Clarke, David Morrissey, Michael Fassbender and more, is headed to theaters in the UK on April 23rd, but judging by the little Warner Bros logo that comes in at the end of the trailer, the film will most likely be hitting Stateside in the near future. Stay tuned for more info on this epic flick.

Holy cow! This first trailer for the Neil Marshall directed film Centurion looks incredibly awesome! I was overwhelmed with excitement after watching this trailer, not only is there a great story being told in the film, but it it looks visually stunning, with a great old school filmmaking feel to it. I gotta say Centurion looks like a better film than Ridley Scott's Robin Hood!

First ‘Centurion’ Trailer Will Make You Forget The Stank of ‘Doomsday’

Posted by Rob Hunter (rob@filmschoolrejects.com) on February 12, 2010

Neil Marshall has a lot to answer for after the abysmally apocalyptic let-down of Doomsday. The promise he showed with Dog Soldiers and The Descent appeared not to translate very well to bigger, action-oriented movies outside of the horror genre. Maybe his talents were limited to smaller tales with limited budgets. Maybe he needed to look to the past to chart his future. Maybe it was time to move on from titles starting with the letter D…

Which brings us to the seemingly long in-production film, Centurion. Marshall wrote and directed this tale about a Roman legion decimated by a guerrilla attack. (Is it me or do the guerrillas in question appear to be ancestors of the face-paint gang from Doomsday?) Seven soldiers survive the attack and find themselves trapped behind enemy lines. Lost and out-manned, the seven are forced to fight their way through the enemy if they ever want to see their homeland again. Check out the trailer below.

Looks pretty sweet doesn’t it? The cinematography is the sharpest and most impressive of Marshall’s career both in the wide shots of vast landscapes and the action scenes. The long shot of the legion on the road as the rolling fireballs come towards them looks very cool. And while the cast doesn’t contain any traditional movie stars I’m extremely happy with all three of the leads. Michael Fassbender (Hunger) and Dominic West (The Wire) are always terrific, and Olga Kurylenko? I’m happy watching her in absolutely anything. It’s also interesting that (unless I’m mistaken) she appears to be the villain of the film… if true it’s an unexpected but welcome turn.

Centurion opens in the UK this April, but as of yet there is no US release date.

What do you think of the trailer? And what’s Marshall’s fascination with face-painting?

Trailer For Neil Marshall's 'Centurion' Has Lots Of People Yelling

We've sort of never understood the geek appeal of Neil Marshall. "Dog Soldiers" was ok, but "The Descent" was terribly overrated while "Doomsday" was just plain awful. Regardless, fanboys continue to champion this guy and it probably won't end with "Centurion."

The trailer for the film has hit the web and unfortunately it's pretty generic stuff. While we'll hold out hope it will still be worthy of our Potentially Decent Escapist Entertainment Films Of 2010, we're not brimming with optimism here.

Ever since "300," it seems any period based action film has to have lots of yelling and guys speaking each line as if it were the most important piece of dialogue in the film and the trailer for Marshall's film is no different. We kind of laughed at the early shot of Olga Kurylenko who has some remarkably great hair and makeup for Roman times. James McNulty Dominic West looks woefully miscast here, while we're just going to pretend that the excellent Michael Fassbender isn't in this. And the action scenes? They look well staged but not unlike anything we've seen before.

"Centurion" opens in the UK on April 23rd and is thankfully not in 3D. Currently, it doesn't have a stateside distributor or release date. We imagine that will all depend on how well (or not) this film is received.

Neil Marshall’s ‘Centurion’ Trailer
Posted on 12 February 2010 by Jordan Raup in Trailers

There seems to be a lot of medieval epics this year from Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood to Kevin Macdonald’s Eagle of the Ninth. Now, IGN has debuted the trailer for another Roman epic, Centurion. It is the latest film by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday) and stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenko. Check it out below or in HD over on IGN.

Plot: Britain, A.D. 117. Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon.

After Inglourious Basterds, Fish Tank, and Hunger I will watch anything Michael Fassbender does. While I’m not so hot on Marshall, being one of the few that hated The Descent, this does look pretty fun and less generic than Robin Hood.

Warner Brothers has not decided on a US release date yet, but expect it later this year.

What do you think of the Centurion trailer?

weetiger3 [Moderator] 13 hours ago
"I will watch anything Michael Fassbender does." DITTO!! (For me it started with "300" and at this point, I've seen most of his filmography.) As for director Neil Marshall, I didn't see "The Descent" but I loved "Dog Soldiers" so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.

This looks like enormous fun!

The Descent, "The Wire," and "Doctor Who"

What Are Things that Have a One-Degree Separation from Centurion? / Dustin Rowles

Trailers | February 12, 2010

Stupid epic Roman period films — it’s like a two-hour excuse to allow the actors not to bathe for three months and shoot a bunch of decapitation scenes. Jesus.

Oh wait. That’s awesome. Apologies.

Here’s the trailer for Centurion, and if the fact that Neil Marshall (The Descent, Dog Soldiers) wrote and directed the film doesn’t get your bits in a tingle, then how about this: Michael Fassbender, McNulty (Dominic West), and “Doctor Who’s” Mickey Smith (Noel Clarke) all star in it.

Truthfully, I don’t typically care for these types of films, but man o’ man alive, as the hyperbolic movie bloggers with a limited vocabulary often like to say, this movie looks epic.

Neil Marshall's CENTURION has been flying under the radar for a while now, but after watching this debut trailer for it (via IGN), I have to say it looks like it's going to be worthwhile.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko and chronicles the plight of a Roman legion ambushed behind enemy lines. It's nice to see Fassbender and West getting down and dirty, and Kurylenko gives Keira Knightley in KING ARTHUR a run for her money as a psychotic/hot barbarian princess.

I mean damn, this looks every bit as entertaining as ROBIN HOOD, and hopefully the film itself can live up to this trailer's promise.

Looks pretty f-ing cool. I'm so happy that Michael Fassbender is in a Leading ROLE. The whole concept of this movie looks interesting.. Can't wait to see this.....

Can't wait to see this. We don't get a lot of historical movies and epics, and Michael Fassbenders deserves more leading roles.

Bloody Good Trailer for Neil Marshall's Centurion

* Centurion
* Dominic West
* Michael Fassbender
* Neil Marshall

The UK trailer for Neil Marshall's latest film, Centurion, hit online today, and even though it's not horror per se, we're sure that it will still appeal to you, oh dearest reader! If only for the gore!

Based on the legend of the Ninth Legion, an army of 3,000 unstoppable Roman warriors who vanished without a trace, Centurion is the tale of their vicious conflict with a murderous adversary, the Picts. Quintus Dias (Michael Fassbender), a Roman corporal, is taken hostage by the Pict King, Gorlacon, and the Ninth are charged with bringing him home and ending Pict domination of Britain. Led by General Virilus (Dominic West) and guided by a Pict prisoner and warrior woman named Etain (Olga Kurylenko), the army marches towards enemy territory and finds itself in the midst of a perilous battle with a mysterious foe.

Look for more badassery from this one soon. In the meantime dig on the trailer and the quad poster below courtesy of IGN.

Centurion International Trailer and Poster: Neil Marshall Goes Behind Enemy Lines

Posted on Friday, February 12th, 2010 by Russ Fischer

I like the ‘men behind the lines’ movie. It’s a great action flick setup that never really goes out of style. It was good enough for Quentin Tarantino and Inglourious Basterds, and I hope it’ll be good enough for Centurion, Neil Marshall’s follow-up to the insane and ridiculous (those are good things) Doomsday. We’ve seen a few photos and some behind the scenes video showing what Marshall has come up with for a tale of Roman legionnaires trying to escape a vengeful Pict force. Now there’s a trailer that sets up the whole picture; check it out after the break.

IGN has the trailer and a quad poster for the film. Centurion follows a group of men from the legendary Ninth Legion, which disappeared and was rumored destroyed while attempting to wipe out the Picts. In Marshall’s film, the legion is ambushed, as you’ll see in the trailer, and a few men are left alive, trying to escape from the wrath of their former quarry. Dominic West is the legion’s commander; Michael Fassbender is Quintus Dias, who leads the men stranded behind enemy lines. Olga Kurylenko is Etain, a Pict whose tongue was cut out by Romans after they butchered her family.

The trailer shows off a lot of the action that Marshall threw into Doomsday, although in a much more restrained style. This movie looks low-key by comparison. I’m not sure I buy Olga Kurylenko as a warrior princess (or whatever she’s meant to be) but it is an interesting change to see her wearing clothes.

(I expect plenty of ‘It’s a trap!’ comments. I would have been able to watch that line if I hadn’t just watched last night’s Daily Show an hour ago, which contains this segment.)

Ok I think this looks brilliant.

"I AM A SOLDIER OF ROME! I WILL NOT YIELD!"

Michael Fassbender.

Dominic West.

A play on Lost's "live together die alone".

Can I get a ticket now?

Everyone applaud. He threw no slow-mo s$#! in here. Could this mean the 300 trend is finally slowly coming to an end?

Also Fassbender is brilliant. Great to see him get more leading roles. I'll watch this film for sure. I like Marshall (for the most part).

joker93 [Moderator] 14 hours ago
I kinda think that with this and Cronenberg's upcoming Freud film, there's no way I'm not becoming a Fassbender fan in the very near future. I've only seen three or four films with the guy so far, but he's been absolutely great in each.

waqman [Moderator] 14 hours ago in reply to joker93
I would have preferred Fassbender and Mortensen in that one instead of Fassbender and Waltz though. Waltz was good in Inglorious, but eh I like Mortensen more and his collaborations with Cronenberg were going so well.

It's probably because he's semi-retired at the moment.

Looks about as bad as Uwe Boll's "In the Name of the King" tbh.

I love Fassbender but I don't think even he'll be able to save this.

CENTURION Trailer Unleashes a Little Hell

Anyone else remember how kick-ass the opening battle sequence in GLADIATOR was? Remember the Roman soldiers taking on the Germanic barbarians in those gray woods, the flaming bombs shattering against trees and raining liquid fire? Yeah, I’m totally doing the Chris Farley thing here, but that was pretty damn cool.

How about a full length feature film with that same style? I say if anyone can pull it off it’s Neil Marshall, and, if this new trailer for CENTURION, courtesy of IGN, is any indication, that concept may be hitting our theaters very soon. What’s more, it shows McNulty (Dominic West) and Lt. Archie Hicox (Michael Fassbender) kicking some serious Pict tail.

Check it out right here:

Centurion at IGN.com

Granted, it might not be as epic as GLADIATOR. That’s what happens when you’ve got the guy who did THE DESCENT and DOOMSDAY at the helm instead of the guy who did ALIEN or BLADE RUNNER. Nonetheless, CENTURION looks to feature some very cool action, and you know with Marshall at the wheel, this ship isn’t going to go anywhere near the PG-13 territory. Thoughts of another KING ARTHUR can be dispelled right, friggin’ now.

You can also head over to IGN for the HD version of the trailer. CENTURION is set to hit UK theaters in April. No US release date has been announced as of yet.

Official Centurion Movie Trailer
Friday, February 12, 2010 8:17AM By Krystal Clark

The first trailer has been released for the action epic, Centurion. The folks over at IGN have debuted the video that features Michael Fassbender and former Bond Girl Olga Kurylenko. It seems like we’ve been waiting forever for this film and finally some legitimate promotion has come our way. We don’t know what the big deal is, the movie looks pretty good. Take a look at the trailer…

Centurion speculates on the fate of Rome’s reputedly ‘lost’ Ninth Legion, who in this take are north of Hadrian’s Wall, engaged in a bloody battle and facing a bit of trouble getting out of hostile Pict country. We get to see what happens as they try to fight for freedom behind enemy lines. The film is directed by Neil Marshall and it has a serious Gladiator feel to it.

The cinematography in this film looks amazing, but beware of the graphic violence because the trailer does show blood squirting everywhere. A pleasant surprise is Olga Kurylenko’s character, who looks like an Amazon who’s kicking ass and taking names later. It’s great to see her in a role that doesn’t require her to play a piece of eye candy.

What do you think of the first trailer for Centurion? Does it look like a must see?

First CENTURION Trailer - Directed by Neil Marshall and Starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko
by Steve 'Frosty' Weintraub Posted:February 12th, 2010 at 7:21 am

The first trailer for Centurion has hit the net and it looks great. Written and directed by Neil Marshall (Doomsday, The Descent, Dog Soldiers), the film stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko and it’s a about a group of Roman soldiers that have to fight for their lives behind enemy lines.

When I interviewed Michael Fassbender for Fish Tank, he told me a lot about Centurion. Fassbender called it “a Roman chase film” and when I asked him what it’s about, he said, “It’s basically about a group of Roman soldiers trying to get back across the border. It sort of surrounds the legend of the Ninth Legion. What happened in this myth is the Ninth Legion went over the border into the highlands to suppress this tribal community that was wreaking havoc on their outposts. They were trying to suppress this race. It was kind of like the Gaul situation where they couldn’t manage to suppress this tribal sort of community in France. So they sent the Ninth Legion in, which was one of the best Legions they had, and they disappeared. Five thousand men got wiped out. They never came back. So it’s basically Neil’s take around that myth.”

Check out the trailer after the jump. It’s definitely worth your time.

Centurion gets released in the UK April 23. I’m not sure what the release date is in America.

Neil Marshall’s “Centurion” Trailer

A couple of days ago on the Cinecast, Kurt and I went over a bunch of movies that we’re really anticipating in the coming year. One of my later picks was Centurion by director Neil Marshall. While it sounds like the name of a movie I would normally avoid like anal probe, the Marshall name has my butt in the theater already.

Dog Soldiers and The Decent were fun movies in their own right, but the homage to the Mad Max films, Escape from New York and the 28… series in 2006 Doomsday (our R3view) just blew me away. It is still sitting comfortably in my top ten of 2008.

So here we are 2 years later and Marshall’s newest, Centurion, is right around the corner. I stumbled across the trailer this morning and while I’m not normally a fan of these epic, battleground pieces, this has got Marshall’s penchant for the dark, foreboding and ominously surreal dusted over the top of what might otherwise be pretty standard stuff.

And come on: you’ve got Michael Fassbender in here; along with the awesomeness of “The Wire’s” Dominic West and the fineness of Olga Kurylenko. What’s not to like? Over the “let’s reboot and just make it darker” version of Robin Hood or this, I’ll take the goofy fun of Neil Marshall and Centurion any day of the week.

trailer is under the seats…

Trailer Watch: Centurion trailer makes your blood curl

Posted on 13. Feb, 2010 by John

Here is a film to watch out for. I’m really a sucker for most of the films starring Michael Fassbender. I just lost it after watching him in Hunger. He seems to channel a lot of his spirit in this one as well.

The film is directed by Neil Marshall. It is called Centurion. The film deals with the story of missing Romans who were slaughtered and laid to rest in the battlefield. Centurion takes place in the minutes immediately following the slaughter.

Marshall the directed seems to be fascinated with the same idea of Romans having whole lot of rules and regulations and stuff. Here it deals with the encroachment of a place where people are inhabited and are really territorial. The trailer has some really good shots that stick out like fire to a straw. They are visually really worth our time spent in the theater.

The film also stars Dominic West who is also a great actor. He is known for his work on the Wire. So with the cast like this nothing really can go wrong.

Centurion still does not have a release date. So that will be an issue we wold like to discuss in the coming weeks.

enturion Trailer: Michael Fassbender Trades Nazi Fighting For Barbarians
By Josh Tyler: 2010-02-13 15:16:19

Neil Marshall’s new movie Centurion seems to be making the most of what it has, in its first trailer. Unfortunately what it has, isn’t a lot. It’s the story of survivors from an ambushed Roman legion, on the run and hunted by barbarian enemies. Inglorious Basterds’ Michael Fassbender stars, and seems to be doing a pretty credible job of playing the determined, angry soldier. But it’s obvious this is a pretty low budget affair and the story, at least as presented in the trailer, seems a little generic.

Still, the trailer’s worth checking out. Centurion could be better than expected, at the least it seems to have pulled off a few great visuals, and it’s great to see Fassbender, easily one of the best parts of Tarantino’s Oscar nominated film, in a leading role. Watch the Centurion trailer in HD at IGN or watch it below.

[Trailer] CENTURION (2010) a New Film by Neil Marshall
By
Dale Cooper

[I've been gone for over a week and I am the Pop Bunkerateer that is mostly in charge of movie news and trailers. Therefore this might be the first of several trailer/news dumps. Hold on while I get you (and me) caught up!]

I am a great fan of Neil Marshall. Dog Soldiers is probably the best werewolf movie ever and could give Aliens a run in the action/horror genre/ The same can be said about The Descent which is simply one of the best horror movies in the last decade.

In his newest film, Marshall changes pace a little. It is called, Centurion:

The British-set sword and sandals thriller, set during the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 117, details the story of Quietus Dias, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, who marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko star.

Frenetic action for Centurion by Neil Marshall
February 13th, 2010 by Mr. M

(SoloCine.it) Even when we started in April 2009 informed of Centurion, the next project by Neil Marshall, the director who gave us one of the best horror of the decade, The Descent, and now it finally showed a trailer international We take this opportunity to refresh your memory on this much awaited title, along with some other films in a rrivo could give rise to a renaissance in film para-historical and / or mythology.

Britannia.
117 BC.

After a terrible surprise attack that literally decimated a Roman fort site in hostile territory, Quintus Dias, passed in command of what remains Ninth Legion, is cut off from the rest of the army and fully behind enemy lines.

Decide then to march north to groped to annihilate the enemy once and for all, led by the charismatic and ruthless Gorlacon.
Michael Fassbender will interpret the part of Quintus Dias and Dominic West will be the commander of the Ninth Legion and Olga Kurylenko will play a woman Pictish which the Romans had cut his tongue after having killed his family .

But plenty assured style of director Marshall and certainly an occasional turn toward the horror of a film that more than groped the way of major clashes between the army will give us the opportunity to observe a handful of experienced soldiers trapped behind enemy lines .

After reviewing the trailer waiting grows and we look forward to the film arrives in I talia.

Forthcoming Film Furore! Centurion

I've been a big fan of British writer/director Neil Marshall since his unashamedly entertaining squaddies vs. werewolves movie Dog Soldiers. He became a critical darling after the release of excellent horror The Descent, but lost some brownie points after Doomsday was a critical and commercial disappointment. Personally, I enjoyed Doomsday so much that I went to see it twice. Marshall is a superb genre filmmaker, and now he's bringing us Centurion.
Centurion is the story of the survivors of the Ninth Legion as they struggle to escape from rampaging Picts. The cast is impressive, led by Michael Fassbender (Hunger, Inglorious Basterds) as Quintus Dias, the leader of the survivors, and The Wire's Dominic West. Bond girl Olga Kurylenko stars as the head of the Pict clan chasing after our heroes, and Liam Cunningham, Noel Clarke and David Morrisey round out the cast. Fassbender has described it as a "chase movie", and the good cast and lean premise should appease those upset by Doomsday's excesses. There hasn't been a decent Roman movie for a while, and it looks like Centurion might fill the gap. Centurion comes to UK cinemas in April

Impressive first trailer for Neil Marshall’s Centurion
Saturday, 13 February 2010 Gerard Wood

CenturionThe first official trailer for Neil Marshall’s Centurion has found its way onto the web, catapulting this gritty epic into my short-list of most highly anticipated movies of the year. It looks very promising. Set in AD 117 during the Roman occupation of Britain, Centurion is the story of the Ninth Legion's final mission, one that has become legendary due to the Legion's mysterious disappearance in the hostile territory of the Picts.

The fate of the so-called Lost Legion is disputed, some historians believing it was simply disbanded, others that it was probably wiped out in another battle sometime later. Marshall, who also wrote the screenplay, has stuck close to the legend, explaining that, “It’s not meant to be historically perfect. I’m picking up on a legend and exploring it . . . it’s an action thriller.” In his story (rather than history), General Virilus and his Ninth Legion set off north of Hadrian's Wall to vanquish the troublesome Picts and to kill their leader Gorlacon. The Legion is joined by Quintus Dias, a survivor from a Roman frontier fort that the Picts raided, and is guided by Etain, a Pictish prisoner and warrior woman, who leads them into a trap in which all but seven are massacred. Centurion follows the remaining seven as they attempt to return home.

Dominic West (300) stars as Virilius, Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds) as Quintus Dias, and Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace) as Etain, whom Marshall has described as "kind of revenge incarnate. Her family were butchered by the Romans, she had her tongue cut out by the Romans, she’s had a hell of a time and she’s out for Roman blood... She’s quite furious because one sense is not there — she can’t speak — all the others are more developed. She sees very well and hears very well: she is an animal!” (To be honest, I'd never thought of speaking as a sense, but I get what Marshall means.)

CenturionFassbender gives some idea of his character's journey in an interview with Empire, “There's certainly a lot of head-chopping. I guess you can always make modern-day parallels, to the occupation of Iraq. But it's the idea of someone who believes in an ethos, becomes disillusioned and comes to his own sort of beliefs. So there are parallels, and it's interesting when you take it out of our timeframe and stick it back 2,000 years."

Neil Marshall directed the critically acclaimed Dog Soldiers and The Descent and most recently the less compelling Doomsday. Originally scheduled for a 2009 release, Centurion has a 23 April release in the UK. Other dates will be announced soon.

VIDEO: 'Centurion' trailer features fighting, yelling, porn-star braids

Centurion By Ace Fernandez

A trailer for Celador Films' Roman epic "Centurion" is out. It's determinedly overwrought, as these movies tend to be (see "300," "Gladiator," etc.). Men fighting and yelling and bleeding and slashing and defying, dammit, defying!

It does boast "Inglourious Basterds" star Michael Fassbender, "The Descent" director Neil Marshall and "Slumdog Millionaire" producer Christian Colson, who's got an Oscar on his mantle.

In Roman Britain A.D. 117, a bunch of soldiers get ambushed and massacred, leaving seven survivors stranded -- you guessed it -- behind enemy lines. Much hardship ensues, some of it at the hands of a bow-and-arrow-wielding hottie bad-ass in Braveheart makeup, steel-plated tiara and blond porn-star braids. Huzzah!

The film has distribution set up around the world, but not in the States. What do you think, is there an audience for it here?

Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko in Centurion trailer

Posted by: Brad Sturdivant

I think it’s hard to watch the new trailer for CENTURION and not be reminded of KING ARTHUR. Story-wise, they seem to be different enough, but the blue paint on Olga Kurylenko is too reminiscent of the blue paint Keira Knightley wore as Guinevere. As opposed to retelling a popular legend, CENTURION tells the supposedly-true story of the ninth legion. Interesting enough, THE EAGLE OF THE NINTH also tells a story about the ninth legion, supposedly many years after CENTURION. So you should have your fill of ninth legion movies by the time 2010 is over.

CENTURION stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko and is directed and written by Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT). No US release date has been set yet.

"Centurion" Trailer: Arrows! Fire! Gore! Poots! (Video)
February 13, 2010 07:15 PM EST (Updated: February 13, 2010 07:17 PM EST)

“Joey,” Peter Graves famously inquired in Airplane!, “do you like movies about gladiators?” Given hits like 300 and, um, Gladiator, it seems safe to say that a large number of us do. As long as there’s lots of people getting bludgeoned by swords and setting stuff on fire, of course.

Which is what this trailer for Centurion certainly seems to promise, and how. The film tells the story of seven survivors of the Roman Ninth Legion, which was massacred by British tribes, and how they fight to get back home.

No really big names in the cast – there’s Dominic West (The Wire), Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds), Olga Kurylenko (Quantum of Solace), and the always delightfully-named Imogen Poots – but nobody knew who Gerard Butler was before 300 opened either. (And hey! Dominic was also in that.)

Centurion, scheduled to open in April, is directed by Neil Marshall – who also directed the unfortunate Doomsday but before that delivered The Descent.

Just sayin', dude knows his way around buckets of blood.

Centurion Trailer is Bloody, Gory and Fantastic

* 2/13/10 at 4:30 PM

There's something about movies like Neil Marshall's Centurion that get us really excited. Big group battle scenes are just so damn awesome. This follow up to Doomsday follows in the footsteps of Braveheart, Gladiator and 300 with old-timey warriors swinging swords, shooting arrows and lighting everything in sight on fire. This group of ass kickers is a part of the Roman Ninth Legion, which was massacred by British tribes. Centurion, which stars Dominic West, Michael Fassbender and Olga Kurylenko, is about a group of seven who survived the slaughter and tries to escape back to safety. There are arrows, blood, ice, knifes, blood, screaming and horses—pretty much everything you ever wanted.

Centurion Trailer Marches In
Neil Marshall goes Roman around
Source: IGN

The first trailer for Neil Marshall’s new action epic – the Roman soldier-powered Centurion has debuted on IGN.

The plot finds Marshall back in familiar, Dog Soldiers-style territory of men-on-a-mission-in-big-trouble: a Roman legion is ambushed by Pictish warriors and the survivors, trapped behind enemy lines must fight their way to safety and claim revenge.

It boasts a solid cast, including Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko (sporting a nifty metal tiara and a lethal bow and arrow) and David Morrissey and, from the looks of this promo, promises plenty of Gladiator-esque fun.

Got to love an ambush that features flaming weapons rolling down a hillside! And maybe, just maybe, this’ll wipe Doomsday from our memories and get Marshall back to his earlier glory days.

Take a look at the trailer below (or watch in HD on IGN) and judge for yourself.

Watch Now: Trailer For Neil Marshall’s ‘Centurion’

The Movie God Posted by The Movie God | February 14th, 2010 at 6:41 pm

Centurion

The very first new trailer for Neil Marshall’s Centurion has been released via IGN.

The movie takes place in 117 A.D. and tells the story of Rome’s Ninth Legion, who set off on a major mission to find and destroy the leader of the Picts and anyone who tries to stop them. But when the Picts spring a trap on them and take the Legion’s general captive, one remaining Roman soldier must take just a few men and find a way to stop the Picts once and for all.

The movie reunites stars Dominic West and Michael Fassbender, who appeared together in another epic battle movie: 300. West plays captured General Virilus, while Fassbender plays Quintus Dias, a survivor of the ambush who is trapped deep within the enemy’s boundaries. The movie also stars Hitman and Quantum of Solace leading lady Olga Kurylenko as a Pict warrior whose tongue was removed by the Romans after they killed her entire family. This character would seem to point to one of those cases where we the viewers will not be sure who to pull for.

Director Neil Marshall is really making a name for himself as someone who can craft fun, violent, and intense cinema. Prior to this movie, he brought us the majorly-popular cave exploration horror film The Descent, as well as the graphic viral epidemic movie, Doomsday.

Neil Marshall’s Centurion Movie Trailer
Posted on Feb. 14th, 2010 by James

Neil Marshall’s Roman soldier epic Centurion movie trailer is released starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenko. Its gorgeous, and those two together here in this movie looks outstanding. Great cast, great visual style, what looks like a great story. But this looks better than Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. Centurion is both written and directed by British auteur Neil Marshall, of Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday previously. It’s an epic action adventure film set in 117 AD about a group of Roman soldiers who must fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their entire legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack. I guess we didn’t know until now, but it looks like Warner Brothers is bringing this to theaters in the US? No official release date is set yet, but I expect it to hit in the second half of the year, right when it’s the perfect time.

Fight or die. Wow, this looks incredible. IGN debuted the first official trailer for Neil Marshall’s Roman soldier epic Centurion starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenko. Wow this looks unbelievably frickin’ awesome! I love Neil Marshall’s fight choreography and cinematography, it’s gorgeous, and those two together here in this movie looks outstanding. Great cast, great visual style, what looks like a great story. It gives me chills! I kinda hate to say it, but this looks better than Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood. I’m way more excited for this sword and sandals epic than Ridley’s – that’s a sign of the times. Watch it now!
