Centurion Trailer

April 19, 2010 by Emily Moulder

This year’s cinematic calender is chock-a-block full of historical epics and everywhere you turn there are Greeks and Romans waving their, um, swords around and Centurion is no exception.

Set in 117 AD, Michael Fassbender plays Quintus Dias, a Roman solider who manages to survive after his legion is attacked in the North of England. The dangerous Picts were behind it and they’ve also managed to kidnap Quintus’ leader General Virilus (Dominic West). Now Quintus and a few others (Noel Clarke and David Morrisey), must struggle to survive behind enemy lines.

If you’re up for some historical action with the gorgeous Inglourious Basterd Michael Fassbender then go see Centurion when it’s released on 23rd April.

Hey! Look At This: CENTURION
I came upon a trailer for this film recently and it certainly got my attention. CENTURION is directed by Neil Marshall - the man responsible for THE DESCENT (which appears on my 50 Best Films of The Decade list).

I like Marshall and think he's quite a talent. He had two cult hits in DOG SOLDIERS and THE DESCENT before his last film DOOMSDAY. That film was not as much of a success, though I won't judge its quality having yet to see it (though I hear it's actually decent). Marshall has avoided offers to direct films for large production companies in favor of making films that he conceptualizes himself. I have a great respect for that because it is a mindset that possesses the potential for truly original filmmaking and plots. CENTURION definitely sounds exciting, here's the official description:

"Based on the legend of the Ninth Legion, an army of 3000 unstoppable Roman warriors who vanished without trace, Centurion is the tale of their vicious conflict with a murderous adversary, the Picts. Quintus Dias (Michael Fassbender), a Roman corporal, is taken hostage by the Pict King, Gorlacon and the Ninth are charged with bringing him home and ending Pict domination of Britain. Led by General Virilus (Dominic West) and guided by a Pict prisoner and warrior woman named Etain (Olga Kurylenko), the army marches towards enemy territory and finds itself in the midst of a perilous battle with a mysterious foe."

The film stars Michael Fassbender, who is fast becoming one of my favorite actors. Recently, he had magnificent and varied roles in INGLOURIOUS BASTERDS, FISH TANK and HUNGER and will appear in this year's JONAH HEX. It appears as though CENTURION will help to strengthen Fassbender's potential as an action star, which will only quicken his inevitable ascent into the mainstream.

CENTURION played at ActionFest last week and currently claims one positive review at Rotten Tomatoes. Its wide-release date is penciled for August 27th of this year.

trailer break: ‘Centurion’

Take a break from work: watch a trailer...

A new movie from Neil Marshall, who gave us Dog Soldiers and The Descent? And starring Michael Fassbender and Noel “Mickey The Idiot Smith” Clarke?

Yes, please.

It’s just a bonus that it’s set in Roman Britain and features awesome Pictish chick warriors.

Centurion is now playing in the U.K.. It will be available on demand in the U.S. on July 23; it opens theatrically in the U.S. and Canada on August 27.

Centurion Poster: Michael Fassbender Writes History With Blood

The world knows Michael Fassbender from his roles in arthouse gems like Hunger and Fish Tank or as the debonair film critic-turned-spy Archie Hicox in Inglourious Basterds, but we're all in for a big change of pace. Fassbender is starring in Neil Marshall's Centurion, a sweeping war movie set during the Roman Empire's attempt to settle the reaches of northern England in the year 117 AD. It's brutal, it's intense, it's pretty over the top, and it's all the proof you might need that Fassbender can handle action star duties as well as everything else.

Centurion hits theaters in late August after a July bow on video-on-demand, and to ramp up the excitement, IGN has the first official poster for the film. It's actually pretty impressive, and a nice break from the usual floating heads similarly "epic" movies get. Fassbender looms over a blur of soldiers and axes, wielding a sword and looking ready to kick some ass. Take a look below.

New Movie Poster for Neil Marshall’s CENTURION

Here’s a great new movie poster for the Neil Marshall directed film Centurion. This movie looks like it’s gonna awesome! If you haven’t seen the trailer yet you should check it out because I have a feeling it will get you crazy excited to see this movie. Click here to check it out! I’m definitely looking forward to watching this hard core visually stunning movie.

CENTURION AD 117. The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying tribes known as the Picts.

Quintus, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon.

But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines, evading remorseless Pict pursuers over harsh terrain, as the band of soldiers race to rescue their General, and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier.

The film stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenko. Centurion will premieres on VOD, XBOX and Amazon.com on July 23 and opens in theaters August 27, 2010.

US poster for "Centurion" starring Michael Fassbender

Unfortunately, despite having some good early word, the film is only hitting the United States as a limited release (though I'm assuming it will be on the larger side of limited). Though the film reportedly lacks the epic scale of Gladiator or other recent sword-and-sandals films, it supposedly does a nice job of conveying the idea that neither side (Romans or Picts) is the "good" side, despite starting out on the side of the invading Romans. I'm excited to see Fassbender (quite the diverse actor as far as role choices go) back in period-action mode again, in material that will likely have more intelligence and gravitas than 300 to combat the lack of stylization. It will also be interesting to see Olga Kurlyenko (Quantum of Solace) back on the big screen, seeing as early reviews have given her standout praise. Centurion arrives in the US on August 27th.

Learn How To Properly Slit Throats In This Red Band Centurion Trailer
By Will LeBlanc: 2010-06-14 15:34:03

Learn How To Properly Slit Throats In This Red Band Centurion Trailer Centurion has been on my list of movies that look infinitely bad effing ass for several months now and this brand new trailer only adds to my growing anticipation. The clip comes from Hulu, showing a bit of its darker side, and gives us a look deeper into a story less focused on the broad stroke of the 9th Roman Legion and more centralized on seven surviving soldiers "soldiering on" in hopes of finding their way home.

You'll also find out just how ridiculously brutal Olga Kurylenko gets to be in this title, and it's not just for looks. She spends most of her on screen time swinging spears and slashing veins. Neil Marshall seems to have delivered a masterpiece of violence that may finally be a film about the Roman Empire that doesn't scream Gladiator-clone. Scope out the trailer below.

New Red Band Trailer For Neil Marshall’s ‘Centurion’ Unleashed!
Posted on 14 June 2010

A new red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s Centurion, which stars Olga Kurylenko (Hitman, Quantum of Solace), Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds, Jonah Hex) and Dominic West (Punisher: War Zone), has debuted online. Check it out in all it’s glory below and be sure to weigh in with your thoughts!

The film is set during the Roman invasion of Britain in AD 117, details the story of Quintus Dias, sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, who marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon.

Film fans may know Neil Marshall from his previous films ‘The Descent’ and ‘Doomsday.’ ‘Centurion’ is scheduled to hit UK theaters in April, but has yet to be acquired for US distribution.

Michael Fassbender in the Red Band Centurion Trailer
Monday, June 14, 2010 3:48PM - By Krystal Clark

A new trailer has been released for Neil Marshall’s Centurion starring Michael Fassbender and it’s amazing! With a film of this nature, you expect plenty of blood and gore and this red band trailer is gives you a hint of both. The things they do with swords and axes is a bit over the top but what else would you expect? Take a look…

How many different ways can you stab someone in the face or slice someone’s neck? It looks like this movie tries to answer that question by any means necessary. There’s a lot of blood, dirt, sweat, and bad eye make up and it looks pretty thrilling. I love gritty period pieces that feature an underdog going at it alone.

Centurion speculates on the fate of Rome’s reputedly ‘lost’ Ninth Legion, who in this take are north of Hadrian’s Wall, engaged in a bloody battle and facing a bit of trouble getting out of hostile Pict country. We get to see what happens as they try to fight for freedom behind enemy lines.

The cast is led by Fassbender and Dominic West and also features former Bond girl, Olga Kurylenko. Centurion is scheduled to hit theaters on August 27, 2010.

What do you think of the red band trailer for Centurion?

Bloody ‘Centurion’ Red Band Trailer
Posted on 14 June 2010 by Jordan Raup in Trailers

Hulu has debuted the first red band trailer for the violent Roman epic, Centurion. It is the latest film by Neil Marshall (Dog Soldiers, The Descent, Doomsday) and stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenko. Check it out below and read TFS writer Paul Chamber’s review here.

Plot: Britain, A.D. 117. Quintus Dias, the sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus’ legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the Earth and destroy their leader, Gorlacon.

I’m one of the few that really disliked The Descent and this looks to be in the same mindset. I’ll give it a try since I love Fassbender and West but I hope the story can live up to the violence.

Magnolia will release the film in theaters August 27th but you can check it out on a slew of on demand services starting July 23rd.

What do you think of the trailer?

'Centurion' redband trailer slashes and hacks its way to you

Neil Marshall, who directed the excellent horror movie "The Descent," is back later this August with "Centurion," a Roman Empire-set action movie about a group of soldiers, led by Michael Fassbender, stuck behind enemy lines in a savage England.

The trailer is violent. And just seems intent on selling the violence. Hopefully, we'll get to see Fassbender and others actually act.

Neil Marshall’s ‘Centurion’ Gets a Gnarly Red Band Trailer

Posted by Neil Miller (neil@filmschoolrejects.com) on June 14, 2010

Magnet has released a blood-soaked red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s upcoming war piece Centurion, a film that had our own Brian Salisbury crying out, “good lord, this film is bloody.” So if you like bloody films, it sounds like this one is for you. If you like bloody trailers, we’ve also got your fix as Marshall shows off his cast — including Michael Fassbender and Olga Kurylenko — getting their medieval weapons dirty.

Here’s the film’s official synopsis: “Centurion is set during the war between Roman soldiers and Pict tribesmen during the 2nd century Roman conquest of Britain. Michael Fassbender stars as Quintus Dias, Roman centurion and son of a legendary gladiator who leads a group of soldiers on a raid of a Pict camp to rescue a captured general (Dominic West). The son of the Pict leader is murdered during the raid, and the Romans find themselves hunted by a seemingly unstoppable group of the Pict’s most vicious and skilled warriors, led by a beautiful and deadly tracker (Olga Kurylenko), and hell bent on revenge.”

And the trailer, courtesy of Hulu. Our apologies to our readers outside the U.S., there is no international embed of this trailer just yet. I would also suggest checking out our interview with Neil Marshall at SXSW, where the film debuted on American soil.

Centurion Trailer

I made a promise to a General to get his soldiers home. That is my task. That is my duty. Wow, this looks good. Magnet Releasing has debuted a bloody, badass new red band trailer for Neil Marshall's Centurion, the ancient Roman epic starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko. We featured the first trailer for this in February and a crazy new poster last week, but this trailer is pretty much all you will need to watch to be convinced to see this (I hope). The new footage gives us a glimpse of the bloodiness and intensity of Neil Marshall's movie that he couldn't show before and it looks pretty damn good. Check it out!

Watch the official red band trailer for Neil Marshall's Centurion:

(We're looking for a non-Hulu version for others outside of the US to watch, but don't have a link yet.)

Centurion is both written and directed by British auteur Neil Marshall, of Dog Soldiers, The Descent, and Doomsday previously. It's an epic action adventure film set in 117 AD about a group of Roman soldiers who must fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their entire legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack. This already premiered at ActionFest and during SXSW earlier this year as well. Magnolia Pictures is distributing it in the US. Centurion will hit limited theaters starting on August 27th as well as early online VOD and Xbox starting July 23rd. Visit the official website: centurionmovie.com. Anyone going to watch?

Centurion Red Band Trailer
By George 'El Guapo' Roush on June 14, 2010

Centurion Red Band Trailer Anyone who reads this site knows that if a movie has any or all of the following items; swords, blood, guts and horses, that I'll probably dig it. Centurion, while really slow at times, does have plenty of the things described above. It even has that smoking hot Olga chick from Hitman though she doesn't get naked which I believe might be a crime in some countries.

Don't know what Centurion is about? Here's a description from IMDB:

AD 117. The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of conquest has ground to a halt in face of the guerrilla tactics of an elusive enemy: the savage and terrifying Picts. Quintus Dias (Fassbender), sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus' (West) legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. But when the legion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines. Enduring the harsh terrain and evading their remorseless Pict pursuers led by revenge-hungry Pict Warrior Etain (Kurylenko), the band of soldiers race to rescue their General and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier.

Just recently, Magnet Releasing has debuted a bloody, new red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s "Centurion", the Roman epic action-adventure starring Michael Fassbender, Olga Kurylenko and Dominic West. The new footage gives us a glimpse of the intensity of the film that we haven’t seen yet and though curiously, it’s not nearly as bloody as anticipated, but it still worth checking. So, check it now after the jump.

Based on the legend of the Ninth Legion, an army of 3,000 unstoppable Roman warriors who vanished without a trace, Centurion is the tale of their vicious conflict with a murderous adversary, the Picts. Quintus Dias (Michael Fassbender), a Roman corporal, is taken hostage by the Pict King, Gorlacon, and the Ninth are charged with bringing him home and ending Pict domination of Britain. The film is scheduled for limited theatrical release on August 27 later this year, but you’ll be able to download it on VOD, Amazon, XBox Live, Playstation and Vudu on July 23rd if you can’t wait.

CENTURION looks graphic, bloody, good
Written by Brandon News, Trailer, Video Jun 14, 2010 Share

Hulu has released a red-band trailer for CENTURION, the new action flick from British director Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT, DOOMSDAY). The film opens August 27 but is available via Video On Demand starting July 23. Why, that’s only a little more than a month away.

Check out the trailer below (you’ll have to sign in to view it):

Man, those Romans love cutting heads off.

Neil Marshall movies take awhile to grow on me but I almost always end up liking them. I think everyone can agree that THE DESCENT is a great horror film and DOG SOLDIERS is just as impressive. His last film, DOOMSDAY, left me kind of cold in the theaters but upon second viewing, I actually got a pretty big kick out of it. Marshall knows how to construct fun, gory action and CENTURION looks no different.

CENTURION also has a cracker jack cast, consisting of Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko. With a summer that looks pitifully weak, CENTURION might be the action-fest we’ve been waiting for.

Incredible New Red-Band Trailer for CENTURION

This new Red-band trailer for Neil Marshall's epic period film Centurion is pretty freakin' badass. I'm really looking forward to seeing this. It just looks like a solid well made film that is going to deliver the goods. If you're not convinced of seeing this movie yet, then this would be the trailer to convince you.

Bad-Ass! Red Band Trailer for Centurion Is a Must See!

By Kevin Coll • June 14, 2010

Okay if you weren’t sold on this movie before this trailer how could you not be sold on it now. I can’t wait to see this movie as I have been looking for the next Gladiator. Magnet Releasing has debuted a new and very awesomely bloody, badass red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s Centurion, an epic action adventure film set in 117 AD about a group of Roman soldiers who must fight for their lives behind enemy lines after their legion is decimated in a devastating guerrilla attack, starring Michael Fassbender, Dominic West and Olga Kurylenko.

The new footage gives us a glimpse of the bloody, intensity of the film that we haven’t seen yet and really markets it in the best way the movie will be seen. I love Neil Marshall and can’t wait to see this movie.

The trailer is courtesy of Hulu, once we get a ripped version we’ll post it in our player so international folks can see it since Hulu is stupid.

Centurion takes place in AD 117.

Neil Marshall’s ‘Centurion’ Gets A Red Band Trailer & New Poster

The Movie God Posted by The Movie God | June 15th, 2010 at 12:25 am

Centurion

A brand new trailer for Neil Marshall’s (Doomsday, The Descent) historical epic titled Centurion has been released. This new trailer is of the Red Band variety, meaning it aims to sell you on the movie by showing off all the bloody violence and other naughty goodies we adults all love so much.

The movie features 300 co-stars Dominic West and Michael Fassbender. West plays captured General Virilus, while Fassbender plays Quintus Dias, a survivor of the ambush who is trapped deep within the enemy’s boundaries. Also starring is Hitman and Quantum of Solace leading lady Olga Kurylenko, who will be a Pict warrior whose tongue was removed by the Romans after they killed her entire family.

Head on over to the other side to watch the new Red Band trailer for Centurion and take a peek at the poster. And just in case you’re not familiar with the term, Red Band means unrated, and not so safe for children and work environments!

Centurion Red Band Trailer

Magnolia Pictures has released the red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s upcoming historical-thriller Centurion.

Magnolia Pictures has released a red band trailer for Neil Marshall’s upcoming historical thriller Centurion starring Michael Fassbender.

Centurion, which was originally titled Ninth Legion, is a British production that follows the legend of the the Ninth Legion – a group of 4,000 men who disappeared following a march from Hadrian’s Wall into Scotland almost 2,000 years ago. We previously covered the teaser poster as well as the international Centurion trailer – both of which pale in comparison to the new red band trailer.

“Centurion AD 117. Looks like we can expect some epic moments when the film arrives at the end of the summer.

Marshall, who is also wrote the film, has said that he took some liberties with the Centurion story – and that the film should not be taken as historical fact but rather an entertaining action-thriller. Certainly a lot of people are going to draw parallels between Centurion and Zack Snyders’s 300 – which can’t be a bad thing.

Given Marshall’s previous work, he directed both The Descent as well as Doomsday (which he also shares writing credits on), it’s not exactly a surprise that Centurion is shaping up to focus on thrills over historical accuracy. Let’s just hope that Centurion follows more closely to the critical success, as well as box-office numbers, of The Descent as opposed to Doomsday. Though, if we’re judging based on reviews from the UK release, which have been mixed to say the least, Centurion may not be a total misfire like Doomsday but it’s unlikely to be Marshall’s greatest endeavor either.

What do you think of Centurion? Think you’ll check it out in theaters or through one of the online retailers listed below?

Centurion will premiere through Video On Demand, Xbox Live, Playstation Network, and Amazon on July 23 and will arrive for limited release in theaters on August 27, 2010.

“Centurion” HD Red Band Trailer Starring Dominic West, Imogen Poots, and Michael Fassbender

Blake | Jun 14, 2010

I have to admit the first thing I looked at was the description of the trailer, and I laughed at the name Imogen Poots. Sometimes, I feel I was cursed with a weird last name, but then people like this come along and make me feel much better about my own surname. Although, Imogen Poots is extremely beautiful, and is appearing in this film as well as, Solitary Man, and a few other projects. So, I’m sure she is laughing all the way to bank.

The trailer looks like a hybrid of Gladiator and 300, which means that it will probably do great business with the male audience. Dominic West and Michael Fassbender will continue to solidify their status in gory action films, and hopefully make a jump to bigger projects. (Something I’d been hoping West would do for a while.) Regardless, it is another project that holds some interest for me, and in a summer that has been a bit lame that is something to look forward to.

CENTURION. Red band. Watch it now

Posted on Tuesday, June 15th, 2010 4:52:20 GMT by: Marina Antunes

There are a few things that make me happy. Very very happy. One of them is swords. Another one happens to be Michael Fassbender. Put them together and voilà! Match made in heaven.

Though the Jonah Hex people are hiding Fassbender behind Josh Brolin and Megan Fox, Neil Marshall is giving Fassbender the attention he deserves and the talented German is front in centre in Centurion not to mention featured prominently in the trailer.

We've already seen a trailer for the film and heck, we even have two reviews (one more favourable than the other) but either way, I can't be disswaded from wanting to see it and this red band trailer only makes me want to see it more.

The red band trailer made it's big splash on Hulu earlier, keeping non-Americans out of the action but we love to share with everyone. A trailer everyone can watch is below.

Bring on the blood!

Trailer after the break.
