The Green Band Trailer For Marshall's CENTURION Is No Less Intense Than The Red-Bander.

by Todd Brown, July 13, 2010 11:53 AM

Need a demonstration that intensity on film doesn't just come from blood? Take a look at the Red-Band trailer for Neil Marshall's Centurion. Pretty damn good. Now take a look at the brand new Green Band version. Blood gone, intensity still there. Are you ready for the year of Michael Fassbender? Because it kicks off with this one.

Plenty of Centurion coverage in the archive, so check out the links below.,

"Centurion" Movie Trailer Review

7/14/2010 Posted by Admin
"Centurion"

Movie Trailer Review

By our guest blogger, Joel Crabtree

Leave it to Neil Marshall, the writer-director of “The Descent,” “Dog Soldiers” and “Doomsday” to create a universe that has all the macho camaraderie of “300” or “Black Hawk Down,” while also turning the idea of gender roles on its head.

Finally, a film that the “bros” and feminists can agree on.

“Centurion,” the latest film from Marshall, follows The Ninth Legion in 117 A.D. Roman Britain on a quest to destroy the rebellious tribe known as the Picts. An attack (more accurately, a massacre) from the Picts leaves only a handful of Roman survivors behind enemy lines and severely undermanned.

Quintis Dias (Michael Fassbender) is given the reins as leader of the troop with one simple purpose: get the remaining soldiers home.

The director’s fingerprints are all over the trailer, the most obvious of which are the “Doomsday”-inspired Picts. Marshall adds a nice touch to the film by making the tribe of warriors mixed-gender, with women willingly taking up arms against the Romans -- including the lead huntress Etain (Olga Kurylenko). The idea of Pictish women as formal soldiers has been entertained and debated by historians, but by embracing it Marshall creates an alternate universe of historical fiction all his own.

From the trailer, it appears as if Marshall also treats The Ninth Legion massacre more like a scene from a horror film than a battle in war, lending “Centurion” a genre touch that most writers and directors wouldn’t have considered. With that in mind -- and with the teaming of Marshall and Fassbender -- the film should find a vast audience in its release.

“Centurion” premiers on video-on-demand July 30, and hits theaters Aug. 27, 2010.

Below is the trailer. What are your thoughts on “Centurion”?

Centurion trailer 2

Someone in charge seems to think this movie can do something. At first it looked like it was going to be quietly released and no one would ever hear about it. But now it has a new trailer and a new poster and it’s actually looking like a real movie. Now, if it can just avoid the Wal-Mart bargain bin.

Still a great cast. Michael Fassbender is quickly becoming an A-list, go-to actor. He’s going to be huge in a couple of years. (Those Band of Brothers boys just keep on popping up.)

This trailer is a great example of how title cards should be made. (A bad example is Clash of the Titans). In this trailer the words flow with the action, it’s not jarring or annoying.

Click on the poster to watch the much improved trailer.

Another New Trailer for Neil Marshall's CENTURION

Centurion seriously looks like an awesome movie, and I can't wait to see it already! The movie is set to come out on August 24th, and it seems like it's been a long road to actually getting released. I hope the movie ends up being as good as the trailers make it out to be. The film was directed by Neil Marshall (The Decent) and it stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, and Olga Kurylenka, all of which look extremely badass.

Synopsis:

CENTURION is set during the war between Roman soldiers and Pict tribesmen during the 2nd century Roman conquest of Britain. Michael Fassbender stars as Quintus Dias, Roman centurion and son of a legendary gladiator who leads a group of soldiers on a raid of a Pict camp to rescue a captured general (Dominic West). The son of the Pict leader is murdered during the raid, and the Romans find themselves hunted by a seemingly unstoppable group of the Pict's most vicious and skilled warriors, led by a beautiful and deadly tracker (Olga Kurylenko), and hell bent on revenge.

You can watch the latest theatrical trailer for the film below, and make sure to tell us what ya think!

Centurion Trailer – New Movie Trailers
By The Vocabulariast on Monday, 12th July 2010

I was frankly a little underwhelmed by Neil Marshall’s last film Doomsday. Since then, it has grown on me… to the point that I’m pretty excited about Marshall’s next film Centurion, even if it does look like a ripoff of King Arthur crossed with The Warriors storyline. Anyway, check out the latest trailer, which looks suitably epic, and leave a comment when you’re done. Centurion comes to theaters August 27th, 2010 and stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Noel Clarke, David Morrissey, JJ Feild, Axelle Carolyn, Riz Ahmed. The film is directed by Neil Marshall.

Trailers: Centurion
By MovieFilmReview • on July 21, 2010

Dog Soldiers, Doomsday, The Descent. Two crap-fests and one (The Descent) amazing film that made me have hope in Neil Marshall. Centurion seems to have the same keys as all of the previous films, in the sense of violence and language ratings, and the movie looks to be, actually, good.
The movie is about seven Roman soldiers who, after being attacked and having their commanding officer killed, are on the run from the countrymen of England, and have to fight to survive, if they are even able to.
Best Aspects: It’ll be violent, looks dramatic and heart-felt, and it is probably going to have good acting because Michael Fassbender (AKA God of cinema) is starring in the movie.
Bottom Line: B+. This may rejuvenate Neil Marshall! Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Neil Marshall At It Again

The new Centurion movie trailer is out and posted below. The main reason I'm looking so forward to this is that it's written and directed by one of my favorite directors, Neil Marshall. He's responsible for one of my favorite horror movies of the last decade, The Descent, and also a couple of other films I really like, Dog Soldiers and Doomsday. If those movies and this trailer are any indication, this ought to be another bloody good time.

New Clip From 'Centurion' Knocks The Wind Out Of You
By Melissa Molina on August 02, 2010

New Clip From 'Centurion' Knocks The Wind Out Of You Today a new exclusive clip popped up for Neil Marshall's "Centurion", which basically features a shirtless Quintus (Michael Fassbender) running away from some guys with a couple of huge axes. Well, there's more than just that, but you're going to have to check out the clip for yourselves.

Quintus Dias (Fassbender), sole survivor of a Pictish raid on a Roman frontier fort, marches north with General Virilus' (Dominic West) legendary Ninth Legion, under orders to wipe the Picts from the face of the earth and destroy their leader Gorlacon. But when th elegion is ambushed on unfamiliar ground, and Virilus taken captive, Quintus faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive behind enemy lines. Enduring the harsh terrain and evading their remorseless Pict pursuers led by revenge-hungry Pict Warrior Etain (Olga Kurylenko), the band of soldiers race to rescue their General and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier.

"Centurion" is already available for Video On Demand if any of you want to check out the gore right away, I certainly would if I were you.

Thrilling Clip From ‘Centurion’

Quintas Dias (Michael Fassbender) gets his daily workout running away from deadly Pict soldiers in the new clip from director Neil Marshall’s ancient history thriller, Centurion.

Centurion movie 2010 Neil Marshall Michael Fassbender

“Splat Pack” filmmaker Neil Marshall’s entry in the ultra-violent historical-thriller genre, Centurion, is now available for viewing through several online retailers and will make its way onto DVD and Blu-Ray later this month.

A clip from Centurion is now online and offers a free look at the latest from the director of The Descent; Centurion is a film that looks markedly grittier in terms of style than films like 300 or the Starz TV show Spartacus: Blood & Sand.

Michael Fassbender (Magneto in X-Men: First Class) stars in Centurion as Quintas Dias, a Roman soldier and member of the legendary Ninth Legion. When the legion is defeated in battle and its general captured, Quintas must rally his fellow survivors in order to survive behind enemy lines.

That turns out to be no simple task as the Romans’ enemies, the Picts, are a deadly lot and not to be trifled with. Matters become all the more complicated when the vengeful Pict warrior Etain (Olga Kurylenko) – who wears Braveheart-inspired blue paint on her face and a fur coat that would definitely upset the ancient world equivalent of PETA – sets out to track Quintas and his men.

Check out a chase scene between a shirtless Quintas and the armor-clad Picts on horseback (yeah, that’s fair) below:

The cool cinematography on display in this clip and the Centurion trailer remind me very much of the look of Valhalla Rising, another lower-budgeted, bloody thriller set hundreds of years ago. Both films actually look all the more appealing because of the absence of polished digital backgrounds and effects.

That is no guarantee that Centurion is anything more than another brainless, bloody swords & sandals epic, but it is still refreshing to see more of an old-school visual style on display.

Centurion is available On Demand, Dish Network, Xbox Live, PlayStation, Amazon and Vudu. It will be available on DVD and Blu-Ray in the U.S. on August 16th.

New "CENTURION" clip/photo from Fantasia screening!

Writer/director Neil Marshall (THE DESCENT, DOOMSDAY) chronicles the war between Roman soldiers and Pict tribesmen during the 2nd century Roman conquest of Britain in his latest film, CENTURION, which premiered July 30th on On Demand, Xbox Live, Playstation, Amazon and VUDU and hits theaters August 27. Take a look at a scene from the movie after the jump.

Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, Noel Clarke, David Morrissey, JJ Field and Axelle Carolyn star in Marshall’s blood-and-sword saga. Coming Soon posted this preview, which you can watch after the synopsis. We also have a photo from the movie’s sold-out Fantasia film fest screening in Montreal last month, attended by Marshall (center), actress Axelle Carolyn (the director’s wife and former FANGORIA scribe) and Fango editor emeritus Tony Timpone.

CENTURION IS ON VIDEO-ON-DEMAND. This is, for those of you who don't follow these things, a) a Neil Marshall movie, he of The Descent and Dog Soldiers and Doomsday b) about the Roman Ninth Legion, which disappeared in Scotland after being f#%@#&! slaughtered by a bunch of Picts c) starring everyone in life I have ever loved, including David Morrissey and Michael Fassbender. You can bet your ass this is what I'm going to be watching tomorrow morning.

Can I say that this person needs to grow up.

http://filmdrunk.uproxx.com/2010/08/barbarians-shirtless-dudes-sword-fights-mcnulty

Barbarians, shirtless dudes, sword fights & McNulty

I’m posting this latest clip from Centurion after the jump as a special treat for all the ladies who want to see a shirtless Michael Fassbender (Michael F. Assbender) run through a forest. That he’s also bound at the wrists is just the icing on the beef cake. Man, anyone else hungry all of a sudden?

Centurion (trailer here) opens August 27th, but it’s doing that thing where you can watch it on OnDemand early, so that one could even watch it now, if one were so inclined. It’s director Neil Marshall’s fourth movie. I loved his The Descent, but his follow up, Doomsday, looked like a car pornier version of Mad Max. As for this one, aside from the lame fashion-model-plays-a-dangerous-killer cliché, I’m intrigued. Probably my two favorite shows are Rome and The Wire, and here we’ve got McNulty playing a Roman. Add a subplot about how drinking whiskey helps you solve crimes (now that’s my kind of wish-fulfillment), and I might slip into my very own Inception-like happiness coma.

I somewhat dismissed Centurion, as it looked like a lot of gore with little else. This clip has me rethinking that judgement (a bit). There are some great shots and Michael Fassbender's acting somehow impresses me even when he's running for his life. The one thing I never understand: why do movie characters always run in the road? Hide. The clip is below.

Fassbender stars as Quintas Dias, a Roman soldier who's legion is defeated in battle, leading us to this scene. For more information, check out this post by ScreenRant. The video is courtesy of ComingSoon.

The marketing for his film has sort of died down after really bad reports coming from screenings. The new film directed by Neil Marshall. The film stars Michael Fassbender, Dominic West, Olga Kurylenko, David Morrissey, Noel Clarke, Riz Ahmed, JJ Field, Liam Cunningham and Imogen Poots. The film is already on video on demand and will be hitting theaters on August 27 th.

The film stars out in AD 117. The Roman Empire stretches from Egypt to Spain, and East as far as the Black Sea. The film still will be a fast-paced action for those who get there kicks out of watching such stuff.

New, Bloody Clip for Centurion
Posted 08.02.10 by Ryan

A new (and bloody) clip from director Neil Marshall's Centurion has debuted on ComingSoon, showing that war was hell even in AD 117. The movie follows Michael Fassbender as Quintus Dias, a member of the legendary Roman Ninth Legion, who, along with General Virilus (Dominic West), attempt to rid Northern Britain of the savage and terrifying tribes known as the Picts.

The clip shows Fassbender running from some Pict pursuers (and their horses), before West and company arrive to administer some bloody justice. Watch the NSFW clip below. Centurion is available now on VOD, Dish Network, Xbox Live, PlayStation, Amazon, and Vudu, and can seen in theaters starting August 27.

Exclusive: 15 Brutal Seconds of ‘Centurion’
Movie News By Cole Abaius on August 3, 2010

So you haven’t heard of Centurion yet. That may be because you weren’t at Fantastic Fest last year, or it may be because of your unfair hatred of all things Roman.

Well dust off that ancient racism and get ready to get some blood in your eyes. We’ve got an exclusive clip of the gritty mess of dirt, tears, and abduction that all find the spotlight when a small band of Roman soldiers has to head behind enemy lines in what will surely be come to known as the 2nd century version of Black Hawk Down.

Check it out for yourself:

Quick. Brutal. To the point.

Director Neil Marshall burst onto the scene with Dog Soldiers and The Descent, so it should be interesting to see how he handles fake historical battle sequences.

Or at least it will be interesting to see how Olga Kurylenko got that cocaine nose.

What do you think?

Blood and Blades in Centurion Promo Clip
Romans vs Picts - like an actual, historical Aliens vs Predator.
By Jordan Hoffman 8 hours ago

I don't normally post flagrant commericals, but when it involves armored men racing through the snow on horseback, I'll make an exception.

Neil Marshall's Romans vs. Picts movie Centurion will be out in theaters on August 27th, but for those of you who just can't wait, you'll have an opportunity to watch it from the comfort of your own home now. This video explains how.

It also shows how the Picts are like really, really badass Ewoks that risk it all to defend their wilderness from the might of Rome. (We don't want no stinking aquaducts!) Also of interest: Olga Kurylenko speaking about a hundred times more in this "electronic press kit" footage than her silent warrior does in the entire film.

So sharpen your blades and ready for battle. Centurion is almost here.

Neil Marshall made Dog Soldiers and The Descent, and that Doomsday film that shot in Cape Town. This one – Centurion, starring the rakish and handsome Michael Fassbender – is about a Roman legion that’s wiped out by pissed off Celts. I’ve heard it’s a bit crap, but you can bet your life I’ll be first in line when it opens…..

Centurion Clip: When Fireballs Attack, We All Lose
Centurion (2010) Movie — By Nix on August 3, 2010 | Share

Check out a new clip from Neil Marshall’s “Centurion”, set to make its U.S. debut in limited release August 27th, 2010 courtesy of Magnet Releasing. The clip features an ambush of the Roman legion by the Picts. It’s fireball-tastic. Which, in case you’re keeping track at home, is twice as fantastic as ordinary balls rolling down hills. Centurion Trailer Debuts

* By: Ryan Fleming •
* August 4, 2010

Director Neil Marshall directs the British film Centurion, a story of survivors of a Roman Legion in ancient Britain. The move hits the US on August 27.

Filmed on a shoe string budget, odds are you might not have heard of writer/director Neil Marshall’s (The Descent, Doomsday). The marketing has been light, and because of that, the hype has been almost non-existent, which is a shame because the trailer rocks.

Starring a collection of moderately know, but very talented actors, the movie takes place in 117AD, as the Roman Legions continue their march through the known world. After reaching Britain, the Legions have conquered most of England, pushing back the tribal Picts into Caledonia- modern day Scotland. On a march to wipe out the Picts and their king, the Ninth Legion is ambushed and destroyed, leaving only a handful of survivors to attempt the long trek back to safety.

Written and directed by Marshall, the film stars Michael Fassbender, who is recognizable from his role as the British officer posing as a Nazi in Inglorious Basterds, and who might soon be vaulting towards superstardom thanks to a turn as a young Magneto in Matthew Vaughn’s X-Men: First Class. Dominic West (The Wire, 300), and Quantum of Solace’s Olga Kurylenko.

Check out the trailer below. The movie is due out in limited release on August 27.

Warning: This trailer may not be suitable for all ages.

New Clip From ‘Centurion’ Knocks The Wind Out Of You
Posted on 02 August 2010
Today a new exclusive clip popped up for Neil Marshall's "Centurion", which basically features a shirtless Quintus (Michael Fassbender) running away from some guys with a couple of huge axes.

Centurion – Starring Michael Fassbender and Dominic West

TRAILER GRADE: B+

MOVIE GRADE: B

We haven’t had a great war epic in a while and this looks like it could step in and be one to sneak up on us. With a relatively unknown cast (fans of The Wire will recognize West and fans of Inglorious Basterds will recognize Fassbender) and a relatively unknown director (Neil Marshall, who did The Decent) the movie has few selling points other than the trailer. Very well cut, the trailer uses standard tactics for getting a movie like this over in a short period of time, that is, show very small bits of pieces of the cooler sequences in between the more iconic lines of the film (from 300 see “This…is…Sparta! Or tonight…we dine in hell!). With Michael Fassbender becoming one of Hollywood’s newest go to guys it is hard to tell whether Centurion is just a throw away epic a la King Athur with Clive Owen or whether it is actually an epic that was put in his hands for good reason. Fassbender will also be playing Magneto in the new X-Men reboot. His track record, although relatively under the radar (Band of Brothers, 300, Basterds), has been very consistent from a script-choosing point of view. He received rave reviews for a little known film called Hunger in which he proved he could go to great lengths to sell a part. Centurion’s trailer makes it look visually stunning and epically pleasing, providing imagery and violence unlike most that we are used to in a genre that for a while, began to get very formulaic and predictable.

Like all films of this nature however, the trailer can be very misleading, especially when it is carried by breathtaking visuals and epic dialogue, most of which is screamed. Just recently the trailer for Valhalla Rising caused me make an effort to see it, something I regret very deeply. Trailers can make films, like Rising, look exciting when they literally put the ONLY eventful parts in the trailer and cut them together to make them look much more consequential than they actually are within the film. Simply put, if the content in between the action sequences and speeches is not good, the movie will not be able to survive on those few points alone, whereas a trailer, especially with the added guide of music and sound effects, can do just that. That being said, I am very stoked for this movie.

Centurion

Tue, Aug 10 2010

The Centurion movie will be released in August of 2010. It is being released by Magnet Releasing and it is rated R for strong violence. It is a thriller type movie and the director is hoping it will go over well in theaters.

The Roman empire stretches from Egypt to Spain and East as far as the Black Sea. But in northern Britain, the relentless onslaught of the quest has grounds to a halt in face of guerilla tactics of an enemy the savage tribe known as the Picts.

However, when the legion is ambushed in an essentially awkward place that is unfamiliar ground and people are taken captive the sole survivor of the Roman frontier fort faces a desperate struggle to keep his small platoon alive all being behind enemy lines. They are pursued over harsh terrain as the soldiers race to rescue their general and to reach the safety of the Roman frontier. The Centurion is the type of movie that will keep you in suspense from the beginning until the ending of the movie. There are special effects that make the Centurion movie phenomenal as well.
